Impressed by the implementation results of the Poder Y Prosperidad dela Communidad Project, Agencia Espanola Cooperacion Internacional para el Desarollo (AECID) Regional Project Officer for Caraga Miguel Angel Barba announced that his agency is planning to put more investments in the region for 2009.
In his visit to Poder areas in San Agustin and Hinatuan town in Surigao del Sur, Mr. Barba revealed that more AECID projects is in the works to further capacitate the project stakeholders along subproject sustainability, empowerment and improving local governance. He said that with the commendable performance of the three Poder areas in Caraga (San Agustin and Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur and Sibagat, Agusan del Sur), these municipalities may yet again be part of the upcoming projects.
For four years now, AECID has been giving out fund support to the Poder Project which is being implemented by the Department of Social Welfare and Development. To date, some 16,290 families in 61 barangays have availed of various infrastructure support composed mostly of schools, water facilities and health stations. A total of P74 million pesos were given out to fund these projects.
Meanwhile, the project visit brought out enthusiasm and willingness among the communities who wishes to avail more projects from the Spanish Agency.
“We want you (Mr. Barba) to know that Poder brought tremendous impact to the economic development of our communities,” Hinatuan Mayor Candelario Viola said in a dialogue. Mayor Viola further explained that the reception and warm welcome shown by the villagers are manifestation of their gratefulness to the funding donor.
Mr. Barba likewise lauded the town mayor for hiring workers that focuses mainly on Poder implementation, despite the presence of a coordinating team employed by the project.
“We hired our own project workers because we want to replicate the process of Poder. With the Poder process, we observed that the people care for the project. The sense of responsibility is evident and felt,” mayor Viola explained.
A total of ten barangays were visited to evaluate the operations and maintenance of their subprojects which is now under the care of the Barangay Local Government Unit and core groups composed of residents. (DSWD-Caraga/ PIA-Caraga)

On Wednesday (November 12) at 12:10 in the afternoon at Purok Sibuyas, Montilla Boulevard, Barangay Golden Ribbon, this city, PNP personnel from Vice Control Section of Butuan City Police Station-1 led by PSI Ronaldo Plaza conducted operation against illegal gambling which resulted to the voluntary surrender of one unit fruit game machine with undetermined number of peso coins inside by Minda Mendoza Peligro (caretaker), 40 years old, married and a resident of abovementioned place. Surrendered machine was brought to the office of Butuan City Police Station-1 for proper disposition.
2. On Thursday (November 13) at 9:00 in the morning at Langihan Road, Barangay Holy Redeemer, Butuan city, elements of Butuan City Police Station-2 led by SPO2 Advincula apprehended the suspect identified as Romulo Lid-awan Hudohodo, 32 years old, married and a resident of Purok-3B, Barangay Bading, Butuan City. Suspect was arrested by virtue of warrant of arrest (WOA) under criminal case number 2008- 690 dated November 4, 2008 for estafa issued by Judge Jeoffre Acebedo of Regional Trial Court (RTC), Branch 41, Cagayan de Oro City with recommended bailbond of P40,000.00. Arrested person is now detained at Butuan City Police Station-2 for proper disposition.
3. On Wednesday (November 12) at 4:20 in the afternoon, a certain Adrian Joseph Macamay, 17 years old, single and a resident of Purok-7, Lumbocan, Butuan City voluntarily surrendered to Butuan City Police Station-3. Subject person has a standing warrant of arrest (WOA) for attempted murder under criminal case number 12932 issued by Judge Eduardo Casals of RTC, Branch 1, Hall of Justice, Libertad, Butuan City dated August 11, 2008 with recommended bailbond of P120,000.00. Said person was turned-over to the issuing court for proper disposition.
4. On Wednesday (November 12) at 5:00 in the afternoon at Barangay Holy Redeemer, Butuan City, elements of Butuan City Police Station-2 arrested the suspect identified as Ferdinand Nini Niez, 37 years old, married and a resident of Purok-10, Barangay Obrero, Butuan City. Suspect was apprehended by virtue of alias warrant of arrest under criminal case number 36317 dated April 30, 2008 and criminal case number 36431 dated May 15, 2008 issued by Judge James Go of MTCC, Branch 2, Libertad, Butuan City for violation of SP Ordinance NR 894-92, Section 31.07 (Traffic Violation) with recommended bailbond of P500.00 for each case. Another alias warrant of arrest was also issued, under CC NR 35102 dated August 14, 2008 for same violation, issued by Judge Dennis Castilla of MTCC, Branch 1, Libertad, Butuan City with recommended bailbond of P2,000.00. Said person is temporarily detained at Butuan City Policce Station-2 for proper disposition.
