DAR joins dugong-bombo blood-letting activity

AGUSAN DEL NORTE (November 13) - The Department of Agrarian Reform, Provincial Office of Agusan del Norte joins with dxBR-Bombo Radio Butuan in conducting the blood-letting activity dubbed as “Dugong Bombo: a little pain, a life to gain”, as part of its community outreach program held on Saturday, November 8, 2008 at the Provincial Training Center, Butuan City.

Agusan del Norte Provincial Agrarian Reform Officer (PARO) Andre B. Atega who is one of the blood donors said that he was once a recipient of blood donation from unknown persons. “But our participation now is not just out of eternal gratitude for the people who saved my life in 1976 but also as an expression that for CARP extension, we in DAR, like the farmers in Mendiola are willing to shed our blood”, Atega added.

Further, PARO II Atega justified the campaign stating that “Blood donation is akin to land distribution in the sense that it is an act of giving to the needy what we have in excess of.”

Meanwhile, in support to the effort of the national government in promoting proper health-care, as part of the interventions in the agrarian reform communities (ARCs), DAR is strengthening the implementation of health programs.

True to this, the department has distributed PhilHealth cards in partnership with People’s Organization (PO) and PhilHealth, Incorporated.

Moreover, granting of Solar Powered Vaccine Fridge in remote areas were also given to farmers and Indigenous Peoples (IPs).

With these developments, DAR is optimistic that proper health-care in Caraga region will be maintained and strengthened.

Kini gipangulohan sa Archbishop of Manila – His Eminence Gaudencio B. Cardinal Rosales, DD ug uban pang mga obispo nga isa ani ang Bishop of Tandag – Most Rev. Nereo P. Odchimar, D.D.

“The Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Law (CARL) was enacted as a social justice measure to address the inequity of over-concentration of land ownership. After twenty years, 1.3M hectares of CARPable lands remain undistributed, consisting mainly of large haciendas of those who have been resisting CARP from its inception. And poverty is still very much with us. Not because of CARP but because it has not been fully and properly implemented.”

“Studies provide categorical evidence that agrarian reform translates into faster agricultural development which, in turn, leads to sustainable economic growth.”

“In supporting the extension and reforming of CARP, may we put forward for your kind consideration our collective voice on what we believe should be incorporated in the Bill like the mandate for direct and physical distribution of all agricultural lands, as opposed to non redistributive schemes; address policy and implementation problems that are obstacles to the completion of the program; the establishment of the needed implementation structure for CARP’s completion; the requisite appropriations of at least P50 billion per year; ensure strengthened credit and support services to farmer beneficiaries; and congressional monitoring and oversight with major CARP stakeholders of CARP implementation and DAR’s performance.

“We fervently pray that agrarian reform, through a reformed CARP, be placed at the center of our country’s agricultural development, transformation and competitiveness.”
