The Ultimate Sacrifice
BY: 2LT GABATIN
In war, no one wins...
36th Infantry Valor Battalion under LtCol Dennis Godfrey F Gammad celebrated the first death anniversary of Valorian troopers who were killed in action during an encounter with the NPA at Brgy Bogac, Lingig Surigao del Sur on 24 September 2008. It was the ultimate sacrifice any soldier or individual can offer for our beloved Homeland.
Nevertheless, our heroes were not neglected by our government. In fact, the families of these soldiers were granted Special Financial and Housing Assistance and Scholarship Certificates formally awarded by the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Military Affairs. Their families are now geared towards a better future in return for their heroism and gallantry in action. The wounded soldiers during the said encounter also received fifty thousand pesos (P50,000.00) each as reward for their courage and unending will to fight to safeguard the democracy for all Filipinos.
Members of the Extortionist Syndicate Group-CPP/NPA/NDF were validated to be killed in the same encounter last year, but the question is, did their leaders acknowledged their death? Did they receive the same benefits or even similar to such? We know that their commanders promised them land if they join their crusade for a senseless cause yet will this be the same land to be used for their burial (if they’re even given a decent burial at all)? Were their families given support during their grief and were their children given a brighter future or were they just recruited to repeat a cycle of violence???
This is a call to all members of the Extortionist Syndicate Group-CPP/NPA/NDF, to open their eyes if what they’re doing is really worth fighting for. The government has offered so many reforms for their surrender so we all encourage them to take advantage of these not only for themselves but also their grandchildren and the next generation. Let your ultimate sacrifice be remembered towards a better Philippines.
