ANAD lauds Purcray's arrest
BUTUAN CITY (February 8) - The Alliance for Nationalism and Democracy (ANAD) Partylist on Friday describes the recent arrest of Maria Luisa Purcray, alleged secretary of the Maoist terrorist North-Central Mindanao Regional Party Committee at a checkpoint in Barangay Dicayo, Kaitpunan, Zamboanga del Norte, as a telling blow to the 41-years of communist insurgency in the country.
In a press statement, ANAD Rep. Pastor "Jun" Alcover, a former CPP-NPA political and commanding officer in Eastern and Central Visayas, said that he personally knew Purcray as she was one of the alleged pillars of the inhuman and violent Maoist communist CPP-NPA-NDF in Mindanao.
"Her arrest, together with a certain Allan Solis, alleged senior medical staff of the Maoist Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee, could cause some setbacks on their plans and programs in Mindanao. Knowing the structure of the Maoist terrorist organization it would only be temporary because in a matter of weeks, surely they shall have a replacement for her," said Alcover.
He urged government to vigorously pursue and sustain its security operations against the terrorist's insurgency and all other threat groups in the area.
"We cannot rest on what we achieved. It is not yet the end of the road. It would be best for government and the civilian community to join hands and pull together resources to effectively confront and politically defeat the enemy," said Alcover.
He reiterated his call for a more pronounced shift towards confronting the insurgency problem through active and sustained political measures with the local government units and officials leading the way and the AFP and PNP providing secondary and supporting roles.
"The Human Security Act and Executive Order 773, issued by the President in January 2009, has been ineffective and rendered meaningless due to the cold shoulders thrown by local government Chief Executives on it," he said.
The Human Security Act of 2007 is a law purposely to combat terrorism, while EO 773 expands the authority and jurisdiction of all Peace and Order Councils to effectively address security concerns of local government units, nationwide.
"Instead, we have received reports pointing to alliances being forged by some local government Chief Executives, especially those seeking elective positions in government, with Maoist terrorist sectoral front and armed organizations to ensure their respective victories during the May 2010 elections," Alcover said.
He called on the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) to fully implement EO 773 saying: "This would be a step towards the right direction in line with government's desire to reduce the Maoist terrorist insurgency to insignificant level in 2010 and bolster the campaign against all forms of criminality, in the country."
