Surigao del Sur PDCC spearheads “Pag-alerto, Malayo sa Peligro” IEC campaign

TANDAG, SURIGAO DEL SUR (July 22) - Anchored on the theme: “Pag-alerto, Malayo sa Peligro”, Surigao del Sur stakeholders of the Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council (PDCC) recently conducted the Information Education Campaign this month in time with the commemoration of the National Disaster Consciousness Month.
Led by PDCC Executive Officer Florencio Pimentel, Jr., thru the Philippine Information Agency, radio guesting activity was aired thru Radyo ng Bayan Tandag represented by the focal persons of the different national government agencies and provincial department head members of the said council.
As part of the IEC campaign, members of the PDCC spearheaded recently the orientation to the faculty and staff of Saint Theresa College on disaster awareness that may possibly happen within the school’s vicinity. Red Cross Chapter Administrator Abel de Guzman introduced the “hazard Map of Surigao del Sur” and discussed tips on what to do during and after the earthquake and fire catastrophes.
Meanwhile, the Bureau of Fire (BoF) in coordination with the Adela Serra Ty Memorial Medical Center (ASTMMC) helped the school administration to be empowered by introducing and encouraging the hospital administration to create five committees that will immediately respond in case of disasters such as fire and earthquake.
Also, Mr. Rocha of the same agency introduced five different committees, namely: Fire fighting team, Communication Team, Security & Ground control Team, Evacuation & Rescue Team, and First Aid & Medical Team. He also discussed and give inputs on the roles of each committee. Earthquake and Fire Drill were also conducted and was observed and criticized by representatives from PDCC members on how they reacted and respond to a possible occurrence of calamities . BUTUAN CITY – Nagkatigom ang mga mag-uuma aron tudloan sa pagpalambo sa produktong mais, didto sa Municipality sa Ramon Magsaysay (RM), Zamboanga del Sur, dili pa lang dugay.
Sa nakuhang impormasyon, mikabat sa 130 ka corn farmers ang mi-apil sa maong corn-briefing.
Gihimo ang kalihukan didto sa Corn Postharvest Processing and Trading Center (CPPTC) sa Ramon Magsaysay sa Zamboanga.
Ang proyekto gisuportahan sa naghiusang pwersa sa Department of Agriculture- National Agribusiness Corporation (DA-NABCOR), congressional funds sa district I ug lokal nga kagamhanan.
Ang maong programa gisugdan sa usa ka video presentation nga nagpasundayag kabahin sa corn industry sa nasud. Nahibaloan nga ang mais ang tuburan sa pagkaon, produkto ug livestock consumption.
Ang mais usab ang gikatahong materyales sa industriyal nga produkto sama sa construction materials, textiles ug abono.
Gihisgutan ang biological control nga naglambigit sa trichogramma evanescent ug balanseng abono.
Sir G. Felizardo Salomes, Regional Corn Banner Coordinator nisaysay nga ang Trichogramma controls corn borer magpadaghan sa produksiyon sa mais.
“For a hectare, we need to apply 80-100 trichocards twice. Twenty-five days after sowing, apply trichocards on the third leaf. Repeat application after a week.”
Andam ang Regional Crop Protection Center (RCPC) sa pagsuporta sa proyekto nga atua sa Barangay Sudlon, Molave, Zamboanga del Sur ug ang Western Mindanao Agricultural Research Center (WESMIARC) sa Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay.
Si Ramon Magsaysay Municipal Mayor Pacifico Bulahan, Jr. sa iyang giluwatan nga mensahe midasig sa mga mag-uuma sa pagtanom sa mais aron makaabot sa ekonomikanhong kalamboan nga mahatod sa grains center.

DENR trains new batch of Deputy Environment and Natural Resources Officers in Caraga Region
BUTUAN CITY – The DENR has trained another batch of 50 Deputy Environment and Natural Resources Offices to support its anti-illegal logging campaign in Caraga Region held at the DENR Regional Training Center in Barangay Ambago, Butuan City last July 20-21,2010.
The candidates were selected through the recommendation of PENR and CENR officers from the five provinces of the region after undergoing and passing the rigid selection process and cross-references of characters made by the DENR over the past weeks.
Regional Technical Director for Forest Management Services Ali M. Bari said the recruitment of Deputy Environment officers shall complement the aging regular forest rangers of the DENR in all-out effort to eliminate timber poachers and mineral thieve in the vast timberlands of Caraga Region.
According to Bari, the ratio of one government forest ranger for every 11,000 hectares of forest lands which area is large enough to handle. The Deputy ENR officers, he said, would assist the DENR in carrying out its mission. Caraga Region has a total area of 1.9 million hectares. About 70 percent of this area or about 1.33 million hectares are classified as timberland.
At the opening program of the two-day seminar, the Regional Executive Director for Caraga Region Edilberto S. Buiser has lauded the volunteerism effort of the participants for taking the challenge to uphold the government’s vision and mandate of protecting and preserving the environment.
“The perpetrators are out there destroying the natural resources of the region “, RED Buiser said. “ Let us prove to them that they can not always get away with the hands of the law. The violators of environmental laws, rules and regulations must face the consequence for every violation that they committed “he added.
Director Buiser, however, reminded the participants to be sincere and dedicated to their duty as environment officers.
He also cautioned the participants to be alert against irregular dealings with the illegal log operators. “, Director Buiser said.
He said “the integrity of the DENR lies upon your shoulder, therefore, be honest and credible at all times”.
The training-seminar is divided into four modules which include the DENR mission, vision, thrusts and mandates, the Department Administrative Order No. 2008-22 known as the “Revised Guidelines on the Deputation of Environment and Natural Resources Offices (ENRO), ENR law enforcement and paralegal procedures.
One of the duties and functions of an ENRO under the DAO 2008-22 is to arrest, even without warrant, of any person who has committed or is committing in his/her presence any of the offenses provided in environmental and natural resources laws, rules and regulations.
Meanwhile, Director Buiser during the meeting with the DEMR forest officers later,has instructed all field officers manning the different forest monitoring checkpoints to be alert against log smuggling in their area of responsibility.
Director Buiser said that President Benigno Simeon C. Aquino II has instructed DENR Secretary Ramon Paje to stop illegal logging and mining operations within 30 days , hence, this should be carried out seriously particularly with the personnel manning the different forest checkpoints. New OIC City Police Director installed, orders men to eradicate all illegal activities
BUTUAN CITY – The new OIC City Police Director of Butuan City Police Office assumed office recently and immediately conducted a command conference.
Police Senior Supt. Benson Leleng now holds dual position as Chief of the Regional Operations & Plans Division of Police Regional Office 13 and now as OIC City Police Director in BCPO.
The order came from the National Headquarters designating PSS Leleng effective July 20, 2010 who was the first choice of Mayor Ferdinand Amante Jr. replacing PSS Joseph Plaza who was relieved earlier this month and was transferred to Agusan del Sur as Provincial Director.
Meanwhile, Police Supt. Joseph Boquiren who acts temporarily as OIC City Director after PSS Plaza’s reassignment keeps his position as Station 1 Commander.
During the command conference, new OIC City Police Director PSS Benson Leleng directed officials and station commanders to eradicate all illegal activities in Butuan City.
There are 5 priority concerns which were emphasized by PSS Leleng namely: to dismantle immediately the reported illegal check points along Agusan River, stop illegal gambling operations, to coordinate and cooperate with PDEA Caraga to stop illegal drugs, work hand in hand with DENR to stop illegal logging and to curb illegal mining activities.
“I challenge all station commanders to produce results in one week’s time,” PSS Leleng said and ordered maximum police visibility to deter crimes and accounting of police personnel to make sure all are fit to perform his or her duty and confirm their presence.
A turn-over of command was also held at BCPO Conference Room as Police Chief Inspector Ferdinand Dacillo was installed as the new Company Commander of Butuan City Public Safety Management Company (BCPSMC) replacing Police Senior Inspector Ronaldo Plaza who was due for the required PNP schooling.
