BIR Caraga launches 2011 Income Tax Filing Countdown
BUTUAN CITY, March 19 --The Bureau of Internal Revenue Region No. 17, Caraga launched Thursday morning (March 17) the 2011 Income Tax Filing Countdown, in a simple yet conspicuously significant activity held right at the gate of their regional office along J. Rosales St., this city after a staff conference.
The countdown was attended by the top BIR regional officials led by Atty. Norberto D. Vitug, Regional Director of BIR Caraga, his Assistant Regional Director Jose Eric C. Furia, the city and provincial revenue district officers of the region and the local tri-media.
The activity was highlighted with RD Vitug himself leading the hanging of the tarpaulin beside the entrance to their regional office, announcing the dates winding down to the final filing of income tax on April 15, this year. “The announcement may remind the public as well as the taxpayers that the final day of filing of the income tax is drawing near. We made it an event so that this will be captured by the mass media,” Vitug said, adding that in the next few days, other means of public information may be utilized such as the mobile public address system (recoreda), through streamers hanged in conspicuous places and through the mass media.
In a media interview Vitug said his office as well as the revenue district offices had not encountered big time tax evasion cases. “Many of the omissions we have found out in the filing of income taxes were mostly mere oversights and not intentional. The party concerned, when we call up their attention shows willingness to rectify their errors and willingly pay the amount due,” he said.
Vitug also stressed that last year they were able to exceed their goal by 2.86%.
And even during the two months period (January-February), they have experience a growth rate of 26 % comparatively with the same period last year.
Atty. Vitug however said that they may be encountering a slight problem as the imposition of the total log ban may in some way affect their revenue collection. The move, he said, may close some companies or have their employees downsized. However, according to him, they may still find a way to replenish or recoup the revenue losses which may be affected by the total log ban.
It should be noted that the BIR Caraga had exceeded their collection last year by P73,794,249.72 as they were able to collect P2,654,753,249.72 as against their assigned goal of P2,580,959,000.00.
Vitug is optimistic that with the usual active support from the Caraganon taxpayers, they may still hit their tentative goal of about P3.3 Billion which is an increase of 25% over their actual collections of last year. (Noel B. Najarro/PIA Caraga)
