Mayor Amante signs MOA with DOLE for SRS
BUTUAN CITY, May 9 – Mayor Ferdinand Amante, Jr. recently signed a memorandum of agreement between the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Caraga Region for the establishment of the Skills Registry System (SRS).
In an interview after the MOA signing, Mayor Amante said the city government of Butuan believes that SRS will become an effective tool in facilitating jobs for the unemployed Butuanons. “That is why we are supporting for its establishment,” Amate added.
Meanwhile, DOLE- Caraga Regional Director Ofelia Domingo thanked Mayor Amante for his unwavering and selfless support not only in SRS but also in Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES) where the city government allocated some P5 million and in other employment facilitation programs such as job fairs and special recruitment activities which resulted to an increase of 11% in the placement rate for the first quarter of this year from a mere 3% increase in the previous year’s data.

BUTUAN CITY, May 9 – In its effort to enhance effective public-private partnership and maximizing involvement of all social partners in the implementation of labor and employment programs, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Caraga Regional Office recently organized the Industrial Tripartite Council (ITC) in Eco-Tourism to focus on concerns of workers in the eco-tourism sector.
During the Caraga Regional Tripartite Council Meeting held in Butuan City recenlty, the management and labor representatives of the hotels and restaurants welcomed the idea of organizing the eco-tourism ITC. This will enable them to address the many development concerns of the said industry, recognized as one of the emerging economic movers in the region. The body elected a set of officers and agreed to expand the membership to cover all provinces and cities in the region.
The induction of officers also marked the official launching of the Eco-Tourism ITC under the Regional Tripartite Industrial Peace Council and the start of the convention of all establishments providing eco-tourism services to come up with a voluntary code of good practices.
With these developments Dir. Domingo is hoping that the labor sector especially the private will have a strong partnership with the government’s labor department in the region.

BSP Council encourages scouts and scouters to join jamboree

BUTUAN CITY, May 6 (PIA) – The Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) Agusan Council Executive Board will give local scouts and scouters the chance to meet their counterpart from other councils and neighboring countries. In the process, they can earning merit requirements to go up the scouting ladder.
During the Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) meeting held recently, Department of Education (DepEd) Agusan del Norte Education Program Supervisor Iglucito P. Duquesa announced that the BSP Agusan Council is encouraging members to participate in the 15th National Scouts Jamboree and International Advancement Camp to be held at the Philippine Scouting Center for Asia-Pacific Region, at Mt. Makiling, Los BaΓ±os, Laguna on May 25-31, 2011.
Duquesa said to quality for the jamboree, an applicant 1) should be currently registered boy/senior scout, 2) must not be under 11 or over 17 ½ years of age before the start of the jamboree, 3) must be a holder of at least the 2nd class scout badge or its equivalent, 4) must be physically fit as certified by a physician, 5) must have at least one year camping experience and sufficient scouting knowledge, and 6) must have attended a pre-jamboree training by the council.
For the scouters, they must be duly registered with the BSP; must have served as Unit Leader or Assistant Unit Leader for at least two years; must be of good moral character; must be physically fit as certified by a physician; must have at least two years camping experience and sufficient scouting knowledge; and must have attended a pre-jamboree training by the council.
A registration fee of nine thousand five hundred pesos (Php 9,500.00) for scout and nine thousand six hundred pesos (Php 9,600.00) for adult leader shall be charged to each participant to cover transportation, food for the duration, jamboree fee, camp material, equipment, contingency and other administrative expenses. However, expenses relative to the participation may be charged to School Board/Local School Funds/School MOOE subject to the usual accounting and auditing rules and regulations. (PIA-Caraga)

Dahil dito, binisita ni Mayor Ferdinand Amante Jr. ang Barangay Tiniwisan, kasabay ng joint session ng (3) barangays kamakailan lamang kung saan pinag-uusapan ang mga iba’t-ibang problemang kinakaharap ng mga resident eng nasabing barangay at ang mga resolusyon nito sa tulong at paglilinaw ng mga kumakatawang barangay officials.
Sa nasabing okasyon, libreng serbisyo ang ipinamahagi ng pamahalaang lokal at sa mga residente, kabilang na dito ay ang pagpapabunot ng ngipin, pagpapatuli sa mga kabataang lalake, pagpapakain ng pospas, pagpapa-inom ng gatas, legal na konsultasyon, pagpapaunawa sa mga benepisyong matatanggap ng mga matatanda, pagpaparehistro ng mga late registrants, pagpapalista sa mga magpapakasal sa susunod na mass wedding, at pagbabakuna sa mga kahayupan.
Dagdag pa sa nasabing serbisyo ay ang pagbibigay panahon sa mga kabataan upang makapaglaro.

Dapat aniya magpasalamat ang mga Butuanon sa dumadaming trabaho na maaring pasukan ng mga manggagawa. Ito ay dahil sa pagbukas ng mga investors na nagbuhos ng kanilang mga puhunan dito sa lungsod, sabi ni Amante.
Hinamon din ng nasabing opisyal ang lahat ng hepe ng opisina ng city hall na maging mapagmatyag sa kanilang kapwa katrabaho nang hindi makagawa ng mga tiwali, hindi tuwid at hindi dapat na mga gawain na makakasira sa dangal at integridad ng lahat.
