Former NPA supporters to partner with gov’t troops to uphold peace, prosperity

BUTUAN CITY, May 28 (PIA) – Residents of Sitio Lusong in Brgy. Putingbato, Cabadbaran, Agusan del Norte who claimed to be supporting the revolutionary activities of the New People’s Army (NPA) now want to partner with the troops to uphold peace and prosperity in the area.
During Thursday’s Grand Pulong-Pulong spearheaded by the 30th Infantry (Python) Battalion of the 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division, Philippine Army, around 40 tribesmen belonging to Mamanwa and Manobo tribes have signified their support to the military after discovering that supporting the rebels was an illegal act.
Datus Relly Yumbotan and Alex Enriquez who headed the two tribes vowed to give their support to the military but feared for their safety and security.
During the open forum, the two chieftains also asked the support of the military to keep them safe as the members of the NPAs knew that they already shifted their support to the government troops.
However, the military also assured the two tribes that aside from giving them security and protection, they will also be conducting livelihood trainings particularly on agricultural production which is considered the only means of livelihood of the said tribes.
Meanwhile, Putingbato Brgy. Captain Rodulfo Pioco also vowed to ask assistance from the city government of Cabadbaran for the scholarship grant of the youths on Sitio Lusong, which only has an elementary school. High school students needed to travel to downtown Cabadbaran, about 20 kilometers from Sitio Lusong.
In a separate interview, Nanay Rosa (not her real name) admitted that since time immemorial, they were not able to experience that scholarship in college were granted to the youths in Sitio Lusong.
“Kung naa man gud tana’y natapos ang among mga anak sa Kolehiyo, siguro dili namo kayo masinati ang kalisud sa panginabuhian tungod kay makakita man og disenteng panginabuhian ang among mga anak” (If only our children have finished college education, maybe we cannot experience difficulties in earning income for our families because our children can find decent jobs)," Nanay Rosa said.
With the conduct of the grand pulong-pulong, she hopes that the government, particularly the local government unit of Cabadbaran City will give them such opportunity so that their children can avail of free education especially in college.

Mining firm turns over ‘caraboy’ equipment to Surigao Norte

SURIGAO DEL NORTE, May 28 (PIA) – Mining firm Platinum Group Metals Corp. (PGMC) thru their subsidiary Cagdianao Mining Corporation (CMC) recently turned over five units of tractor-like equipment known as ‘caraboy’ to the Provincial Agriculture Office of the province.
The ‘caraboy’ which takes the place of the carabao, is a new invention from China for ricefield cultivation which can be applied to plow, harrow and trailer as well as for transportation, it was learned.
With the caraboy machine, the farmers are the one who will be sitting down and roam around working on their farm. The said equipment is equivalent to three carabaos and is proven to work much faster in terms of performance and maintenance.
Provincial Agriculturist Gromyco Geraldino received the said units from Richard Gimenez of CMC in a formal turn-over at the provincial capitol compound on Monday, May 23.
Geraldino said these 5-unit equipment will then be distributed to the farmer-beneficiaries of Siargao island. (PIA-Surigao del Norte)

AGUSAN DEL SUR, Mayo 28 (PIA) – Ang search and rescue Agusan del Sur team (SARAS) ay nagpakita ng kanilang galing sa "pagligtas ng buhay at ligtas na pag likas" ng mga pasyente gamit ang kanilang kagamitan noong ginawa ang “fire drill” sa D.O. Plaza Memorial Hospital kasama ang Bureau of Fire Protection kamakailan lang.
Ayon kay Roberto Natividad, hepe ng Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Center sa kautosan ni Gob. Adolph Edward Plaza, pinaigting nila ang pagsasanay sa mga nagboluntaryo na siya ngayong tumatao sa SARAS para matugunan kaagad ang anumang kalamidad na tatama sa lalawigan ng Agusan del Sur.
“Sa pagsasanay na ito, dala-dala namin ang dalawang fire trucks na nakatalaga sa probinsya habang ang BFP naman na nakatalaga sa Prosperidad ay dala rin ang isang fire truck nila. Sa pagsali namin sa fire drill na ito, bitbit din namin ang mga kahon na naglalaman ng aming mga kagamitan tulad ng kung kami ay totoong tutugon sa emrhensiya,” sabi ni Natividad.
Sa pagtunog ng sirena, ang tatlong trak ng bombero na sakay ang mga bomber at tauhan ng SARAS ay dali-daling tumakbo papuntang D.O. Plaza Memorial Hospital, kasama na ang kanilang sasakyang pang ligtas na may kargang mga kagamitan. Sa tamang pagkilos at bilis, ang grupo ay dumiretso kung saan sila dapat tumutok at isinagawa ang kani-kanilang mga tungkulin, kasama na ang may mga "pasyenteng" pilay at sugatan. Ilang saglit pa, ang mga na iniligtas ang inilabas na sa gusali gamit ang kanilang mga kagamitan at kaagad ay nilapatan ng lunas ng mga manggagamot na nagaabang sa kanila. Sa tamang pagkilos at bilis, naisakay kaagad ang mga "biktima" sa mga naghihintay na sasakyan.
Ang mga taong responsable sa naturang pagsasanay ay nanduon, tulad nina Dr. Joel Esparagoza, F/Insp. Danilo Castor, Dr. Elmore Lumpay, Dr. Lorelyn Pastor na siyang nanguna sa first aid team, mga nars galing sa D.O. Plaza Memorial Hospital mga SARAS volunteers, mga pulis at media.
Dahil sila ang nangunguna pagdating sa emerhensiya, ang SARAS ay mayroong 26 na mga boluntaryong nars na nagsisilbing "medical first responders" at 250 sinanay na mga boluntaryo.
