33rd Nat’l Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation set in Butuan

BUTUAN CITY, June 29 (PIA) -– The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Caraga is once again spearheading this year’s weeklong celebration of the 33rd National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) with the theme: “Making Rights Real for Filipinos with Disability” from July 17-23, 2011 with various lined-up activities.
According to DSWD-Caraga Regional Dir. Mercedita Jabagat, this year’s theme was adopted and conceptualized to promote the implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) duty bearers in both government and non-government organizations and self-help group of persons with disabilities.
“The celebration aims to stimulate awareness on disability issues and concerns that will strengthen the involvement of government and non-government organizations including self-help organizations or persons with disabilities, academe, professional groups and societies, local government units (LGUs), business sector, media and other entities of the society; serve as the vehicle of information of programs implemented by government and non-government organizations that adhere to the promotion of the inherent rights of persons with disabilities; encourage the Filipino citizens to take active responsibility on the upliftment of the economic and social conditions of the persons with disabilities; and develop and strengthen cooperation and partnership between and among various sectors of the society for understanding issues and concerns on disability,” Jabagat stressed.
Also, as agreed during the Regional Council for Disability Affairs (RCDA) meeting held last June 9, 2011, the NDPR week will kick-off on July 18 since 17 is Sunday. All member-agencies are encouraged to hang streamers.
The kick-off ceremony will start with a thanksgiving mass, motorcade and opening program.
On July 20-21, the Technical Skills and Development Authority (TESDA) and Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will conduct skills training to persons with disabilities.
On July 21, the Department of Health (DOH) is also set to conduct the Disability Clinic and Media Forum while the celebration will culminate with the general assembly of the PWDs on July 22.

104 Butuan City hall employees completes TESDA Training

BUTUAN CITY, June 29 (PIA) –- 104 employees of the local government here completed the Technical Education Skills and Development Authority (TESDA) training on the four courses: Book Keeping - 38; Computer Hardware - 25; Electrical Installation and Maintenance – 15; and Vehicle Preventive Maintenance - 26, during the graduation ceremony held recently at the city hall lobby.
The training aimed to enhance skills of local government employees and make them well-versed in their field of work so as they can also provide the best service to the public.
Meanwhile, graduates thanked Mayor Ferdinand Amante, Jr. for giving them the opportunity to avail of this training, not only for their personal growth and development but also for best service to the public.

Butuan City gov’t spearheads synchronized tree planting activities

BUTUAN CITY, June 29 (PIA) -- The Butuan City government headed by Mayor Ferdinand Amante, Jr. successfully spearheaded the synchronized Tree Planting activities held recently as part of the implementation of the E.O. No. 26 or the “Plant a Billion Tree Project” by Pres. Benigno Aquino III, where all LGUs were instructed to implement so as to achieve the one billion target of planted trees.
In line with this, the following barangays were chosen as venue for the conduct of the synchronized tree planting activities: Barangays Bobon; Cabcabon, Banza, Mahogany, Maug, Baan Riverside, Buhangin, Los Angeles and Doongan wherein a total of 10,600 seedlings were planted in the said Barangays.
The local government here is continuously strengthening its advocacy on a clean and green environment. (PIA-Caraga)

Bonok-bonok Maradjaw Karadjaw Festival now back to original sked on Sep. 9

SURIGAO CITY, June 29 (PIA) -– The Bonok-bonok Maradjaw Karadjaw Festival will now again be held on the 9th of September, the original festival date. Last year, the said festival was held on September 10.
According to Surigao City Tourism Council, Inc. (SCTCI) President Richard Nick Amores, the decision was based on the fact that the festival has been calendared in all of Department of Tourism’s marketing materials to be held on such date (September 9) in the last 22 years.
“This is also to ensure the advance planning of guests both domestic and international,” he said.
It may be recalled during last year’s festival, the council decided to move the schedule from September 9 to 10 after the concern of the church that the festival was given much importance as compared to the church activities.
Amores, however, clarified that they have no intention to divert the focus. “It is in fact, supportive of the church celebration as it also give thanks and honor through dance inspired by our local tribe, thus supportive of cultural and tourism value.”
The Bonok-bonok Maradjaw Karadjaw Festival is an ethnic mardi gras marked by street dancing and stationary festivities held in line with the annual fiesta celebration of San Nicolas de Tolentino on September 10. (PIA-Surigao del Norte)

CHED enjoins HEIs’ participation to the 1st Nat’l Student Services Personnel Summit in Butuan City

BUTUAN CITY, June 29 (PIA) – Chairperson Patricia B. Licuanan of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) enjoined all presidents and heads of public and private Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to actively participate in the 1st National Summit of Student Services Personnel to be held on July 29-31, 2011 in one of the local hotels here.
Chairperson Licuanan said the event, organized by the Office of the Mindanao Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (OMESCO) aims to introduce best practices of student or youth organizations on peace, environment and leadership development to advance the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
It also as aims to educate student services personnel on the different aspects of student involvements in the context of youth development.
A registration fee of five thousand pesos (P5,000.00) shall be charged from each participant inclusive of conference kits and materials, accommodation, meals and certificate of participation.
Dr. Licuanan further said participation of officials, employees and students from private higher education institutions shall be voluntary, while those from the State and Local Universities and Colleges (SUCs and LUCs) who will participate in this activity should have prior approval from the President/Head of the concerned institution and are hereby reminded to observe proper use of government funds provided under the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) National Budget Circular No. 486 and Administrative Order No. 103.

Tinaguriang "Suroy Surigao," ang programa ay ginanap noong Mayo 28 - Hunyo 5. Ang programa ay isang natatanging tampok ng domestikong turismo sa pamamagitan ng inisiyatibo na ginawa ni Mayor Ernesto T. Wow Surigao ay isang bagong-nabuo na samahan ng mga babaeng mangangalakal, civic leaders at mga propesyonal, na kung saan ay pinangunahan at binuo ni Mrs. Filomena Matugas. Ito ngayon ay nagsisilbi bilang isang katuwang ng lokal na pamahalaan sa serbisyo at pagtataguyod ng turismo at komunidad.
Ayon kay Mayor Matugas, ang 'Suroy Surigao' ay binuo at pinaghusay dahil sa mga kababaihang miyembro ng Wow Surigao na nagbigay ng donasyong mga bag at ang mga kagamitan sa pag-aaral para sa maralitang mga bata sa 54 barangays.

Tumong niini nga mapadayag ang tagsa-tagsang Cottage Industry o ang mga produkto/delicacies sa matag barangay sakop niining dakbayan. Pamaagi kini nga mahatagan usab ang kabarangayan ug gahum sa pagpalambo sa ilang produkto nga may kaugalingong tatak sa ilang negosyo o panginabuhian.

Ang gitakda nga pulong-pulong o dialogo pagatambungan ni Mayor Ferdinand Amante, Jr. uban ang mga opisyales sa dakbayan, mga opisyal sa DENR, CMRB kon City Mining Regulatory Board.
Sa maong panagtigum, pagahisgot-hisgotan ang mga solusyon aron ma-regulate ang pagmina, pagkunsulta sa katawhan aron mahiusa pinaagi sa pagtukod og kooperatiba, ug pagtudlo sa responsable nga pagmina.
Tumong usab sa maong kalihukan nga ang small mining mabantayan sa syudad. Ug kon ugaling aduna may iregularidad, sayon na lamang niini pagkansela sa permit kung wala mosunod o nag-violate sa mga patakaran sa safety measures.

BUTUAN CITY, June 29 (PIA) – Chairperson Patricia B. Licuanan of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) enjoined all presidents and heads of public and private Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to actively participate in the 1st National Summit of Student Services Personnel to be held on July 29-31, 2011 in one of the local hotels here.
Chairperson Licuanan said the event, organized by the Office of the Mindanao Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (OMESCO) aims to introduce best practices of student or youth organizations on peace, environment and leadership development to advance the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
It also as aims to educate student services personnel on the different aspects of student involvements in the context of youth development.
A registration fee of five thousand pesos (P5,000.00) shall be charged from each participant inclusive of conference kits and materials, accommodation, meals and certificate of participation.
Dr. Licuanan further said participation of officials, employees and students from private higher education institutions shall be voluntary, while those from the State and Local Universities and Colleges (SUCs and LUCs) who will participate in this activity should have prior approval from the President/Head of the concerned institution and are hereby reminded to observe proper use of government funds provided under the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) National Budget Circular No. 486 and Administrative Order No. 103.

BUTUAN CITY, Hunyo 29 (PIA) -- Tinugunan ng turismo sa Surigao City ang panlipunang dimensyon na naglalayong masubukan ang programang "voluntourism" at muling tuklasin ang "The City Island Adventures" upang mapalawak ang panlipunang lunas sa kahirapan sa komunidad sa pamamagitan ng turismo.
Tinaguriang "Suroy Surigao," ang programa ay ginanap noong Mayo 28 - Hunyo 5. Ang programa ay isang natatanging tampok ng domestikong turismo sa pamamagitan ng inisiyatibo na ginawa ni Mayor Ernesto T.
