DILG-13 orients LGUs on the utilization of Performance Challenge Fund Subsidy

BUTUAN CITY, Aug. 25 (PIA) – The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Caraga conducted an orientation for the 40 fourth to sixth class municipalities of Caraga on the utilization of the Performance Challenge Fund Subsidy on August 22, 2011 held at the Dottie’s Place Hotel and Restaurant, this city.
The orientation was purposely conducted to clarify documentary requirements in the availment of the PCF subsidy (at P1,000,000 per municipality) and to instill the commitment for the timely submission of the monitoring/progress reports and required attachments of the municipalities in Region XIII which passed the criteria for the Seal of Good Housekeeping (SGH) for Calendar Year 2011.
The activity framed discussions on the PCF General Implementing Guidelines, Fund Implementation Flow and Monitoring and Evaluation Flow of the PCF. The orientation was attended by the Municipal Planning and Development Coordinators and Municipal Accountants.
The PCF shall encourage convergence of local development projects with the present administration’s priority programs for the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), maintenance of core road network to boost tourism and local economic development, the objectives of the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010, and the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.
DILG-Caraga Regional Director Atty. Rene K. Burdeos congratulated all the 40 PCF recipients and encouraged them to sumit immediately their project proposals included in the Annual Investment Program funded under the 20% Development Fund to avail of the Php1-M PCF subsidy. (DILG-13/PIA-Caraga)

Free medical services – Gov Plaza’s birthday gift to Agusanons

AGUSAN DEL SUR, Aug. 25 (PIA) -- Hundreds of Agusanons were served during the outreach program in two barangays as Gov. Adolph Edward Plaza’s gift to Agusanons a day before he celebrated his birthday on August 21, 2011.
According to Dr. Susan Tan, Municipal Health Officer of San Francisco town, records show that some 1,500 patients from Barangay Alegria and neighboring barangays availed of free medical check-up and medicines during the medical outreach and blood-letting activities that lasted the whole day on Saturday, August 20, at Barangay Alegria gymnasium, San Francisco, Agusan del Sur.
“When we arrived at Alegria gym, many people of various ages are already gathered at the barangay gym to avail of our free services. Without wasting time, we immediately extended our services ranging from medical check-up and distribution of free medicines, tuli for boys, dental services, mass feeding, immunization, papsmear and blood-letting. I want to tell everyone that in many outreach activities that we have conducted, this is the first time that I experienced serving so many people, from morning until the end of the day,” Dr. Tan said.
According to Gov. Plaza, he felt so satisfied seeing hundreds of his constituents responding to the offer of the government specially in availing medical services.
“There is no gift as precious as life that God has given us. We must therefore take care of our life, and make them healthy so that we can serve ourselves, our family and the community to the best that we can. In that way, we can be proud that while we live, we are productive and responsible people,” Gov. Plaza said.
In her message, Agusan del Sur District 2 Representative Evelyn Plaza Mellana said the success of the outreach program which she started as early as the first quarter of this year is the result of the convergence of various agencies who shelled out their resources so that services for the Agusanons can be extended in a larger scope.
On the other hand, Vice Gov. Santiago Cane Jr. said, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan is on the process of passing a bill to set aside more that a million pesos fund to finance the medical and dental outreach program of the provincial government next year. Aside from the provincial fund, the office of Cong. Maria Valentina Plaza of District I and Cong. Evelyn Mellana-Plaza of District II also set aside funds for the purpose.
Together with the Office of the Governor during the outreach program were the Philippine Dental Association, Agusan del Sur Chapter, Agusan del Sur Provincial Health Office, 402nd Infantry Brigade, Philippine Army, 544 Engineering Construction Batallion, 1502 Agusan del Sur Community Defense Center, the Rural Health Unit of San Francisco and the Philippine Red Cross. DPWH-Siargao wins inter-agency basketball championship

DAPA, Surigao del Norte, Aug. 25 (PIA) --The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) – Siargao men’s basketball team was perfect during the recent “3rd Adlaw nan Dapa” Inter-Agency Basketball Tournament, thoroughly thrashing the DILG (PNP) Protectors in a championship match held at Dapa Municipal Hall open court.
The team advanced to the tournament play-off by winning its pool.
"They played well in this tournament," DPWH-Siargao coach Engr. Ronito Espanto said.
"They stepped up when they needed to and communicated with each other on the court. The key for our team was making sure we stay focused from start to finish and teamwork," Espanto added.

BUTUAN CITY, Aug. 25 (PIA) -- Pinangungunahan ng National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) Caraga ang taunang National Crime Prevention Week (NCPW) na may temang “Pinoy Ako, Crime Prevention Misyon Ko!” na gaganapin mula Setyembre 1-7.
Sa unang araw ng selebrasyon (sa Setyembre 1) ay magkakaroon ng “Lakad Laban sa Krimen” fun walk na sisimulan sa alas sinco ng umaga mula Rizal Park hanggang sa Agusan del Norte Provincial Capitol Covered Court na susundan naman ng pag-ehirsisyo na “Hataw”.
Sa susunod na araw naman ay ilulunsad ang Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council (PADAC) sa Tandag City, Surigao del Sur habang maglulunsad naman ng seminar ang Sangguniang Kabataan patungkol sa Crime and Drug Abuse Prevention sa Butuan.
Ang naturang selebrasyon ay magtatapos sa mga sumusunod na mga aktibidades: 1) Ecumenical Prayer, 2) Blood-letting activity, at ang 3) Pagpapasihaya sa mga mananalo sa PNP at BJMP Model Family at sa Mural Painting Contest na gaganapin sa Agusan del Norte Provincial Capitol Covered Court.
Ang mga out-of-school youth ang napiling lalahok sa Mural Painting Contest sapagkat ang mga kabataan ang nais na matampulan sa pagdiriwang na ito. Hinihikayat din ng NAPOLCOM ang madla na sumuporta upang makapagtaguyod ng isang rehiyon na crime at drug-free. (MRA/PIA-Caraga)

BUTUAN CITY, Aug. 25 (PIA) --Nakatutok ang Kagawaran ng Pagawaing Bayan at Lansangan (DPWH) sa pagpapatibay at pagpapatatag sa pagpapagawa ng mga kalsada para mas magamit sa mahabang panahon ang mga imprastrakturang pasilidad sa isla ng Siargao, Surigao del Norte.
Nag-upa ng maraming manggagawa ang District Engineering Office (DEO) sa pamamagitan ng pagdadagdag ng mga "job-order basis" na mga manggagawa para makatulong sa mga regular na maintenance crew ayon kay Quintiniano C. Armendarez, ang Chief Engineer sa Maintenance Section ng DEO.
Ang mga nasabing manggagawa ay tinalaga sa walong pangunahing munisipyo sa isla ng Siargao.
Hindi lang basta pinapabuti ng DPWH ang pagpapagawa ng mga daan kundi pati na rin ang pagpapanatili ng kaayusan nito kasama na ang pagpahawan ng mga bangketa, pagpapalinis ng mga kanal, mga pahabang tubo, at ang pagtapal sa mga butas sa daan.
