AGUSAN DEL SUR, Jan. 16 (PIA) -- The Provincial Agriculture Office (PAO) recently received farm inputs from the Department of Agriculture (DA) as promised by Sec. Proceso Alcala during his visit here, after the January and February 2011 floods that claimed millions of pesos damaged both lives and properties.
According to a report presented by Yasmin Reyes of PAO, they received some 21,300 kilos of Zinc Sulfate fertilizer amounting to some P1,034,410, and another 5,000 liters of organic liquid fertilizer amounting to P625,000.
PAO also received some 3,740 bags of certified rice seeds from DA as part of Alcala’s commitment amounting to P4,488,000.
“For certified rice seeds, we budgeted one bag per hectare and as per our inventory, most affected areas all over the province of Agusan del Sur totalled to 3,740 hectares, where we also delivered the same figure of bags to farmer recipients,” Reyes said.

Cebu-Bislig-Cebu flight to start on February 20

BISLIG CITY, Surigao del Sur, Jan. 16 (PIA) -- The Mid-Sea Express is set to start its regular Cebu-Bislig-Cebu flight on February 20. The said flight is scheduled every Monday and Thursday.
On January 3, 2011, the whole Caraga Region was hit by floods, and one of the most affected was this province, leaving nine persons dead, with 32,598 families or 160,439 persons affected.
But another similar calamity came along after 26 days, hitting old and new victims. Although lesser families (20,926 or 110,489 persons) compared to the January 3 floods were affected, another millions of peso damages to agriculture and infrastructures were recorded, reaching up to more than P95 million.
This prompted Alcala to visit and evaluate the damages brought by floods, bringing along with him some P8 million worth of farm materials which he turned over to Gov. Cebu-Bislig-Cebu flight to start on February 20

BISLIG CITY, Surigao del Sur, Jan. 16 (PIA) -- The Mid-Sea Express is set to start its regular Cebu-Bislig-Cebu flight on February 20. The said flight is scheduled every Monday and Thursday.
Bislig City Information Officer Carlito Abar recently said this development will put the city in limelight being one of the original cities in Caraga Region.
Accordingly, the Cebu-Bislig flight on February 20 will leave Cebu at 6:30am, while the estimated time of arrival in Bislig City is 7:30 a.m.
Estimated time of departure from Bislig is 8:00 a.m., and estimated time of arrival in Cebu is 8:50 a.m.

City dad takes Kahimunan Festival’s success a challenge to his admin

BUTUAN CITY, Jan. 16 (PIA) –- Mayor Ferdinand Amante said the success of the Kahimunan Festival 2012 has challenged his administration because of the coordination of the organizers, barangay and church officials of Barangay Libertad.
In an interview with a local radio here, Amante said the activity is well-coordinated despite financial constraints.
He added the scorching heat of the sun and the sudden heavy downpour did not stop the devotees of the holy child Santo NiΓ±o from going to Libertad Shrine to celebrate and attend mass.
“I would like to congratulate the organizers headed by Bishop Zacharias Jimenez and Barangay Captain Vincent Rizal Rosario for the successful conduct of Kahimunan Festival 2012 and I would also like to commend all the men and women behind the success of this activity,” Amante said.
The official said this is a challenge to his administration considering the city of Butuan will be celebrating the month-long Balangay Festival on May.
He stressed with his experience in Kahimunan Festival 2012, this will serve as an inspiration to all the officials and stakeholders in making Balangay Festival as successful as that of Kahimunan Festival.
Meanwhile, Amante is also grateful for the peaceful conduct of the whole day activity, and vowed that he will continue to give his full support to Kahimunan Festival in the years to come.
“I will continue to support the organizers and parishioners of Senior Santo NiΓ±o especially in the conduct of Kahimunan Festival next year,” Amante said. (PIA-Caraga)

PNP entrance, promotional exams go online

BUTUAN CITY, Jan. 16 (PIA) -- Online application will soon be available for those who are already in the police service (promotional) and for those aspiring to enter the Philippine National Police (PNP) entrance examinations.
National Police commission (NAPOLCOM) regional director Atty. Remeneo Valenzuela said theiragency has adopted and will implement changes in the procedures of the entrance examinations application this year.
According to Valenzuela, their agency will no longer issue application forms to interested individuals instead they are directed to visit their website at www.napolcom.gov.ph and fill-up the application form online.
The applicants will then receive a letter reply and said document will then be presented to the NAPOLCOM office personally for proper verification and evaluation.
Once said documents are verified and evaluated and applicants are found qualified, the commission will then approve their application.
Online scheduling will be available on February 1 up to 13 and the examination schedule will be on the month of April, this year.
Meanwhile, PNP Caraga regional office is now open for attrition quota for Police Officer I (PO1) for CY 2012 in addition to their regular recruitment program for this year.

Libertad Nat’l High School wins Kahimunan Festival 2012

BUTUAN CITY, Jan. 16 (PIA) -– Crowd favorite Libertad National High School (LNHS) bested four other contingents to win the grand championship in the 2012 Kahimunan Festival in a breath-taking performance on Sunday, held at the city’s sports complex.
LNHS performance wowed the members of the Board of Judges and captured the attention of the crowd as the contingent performed a neo-ethnic inspired performance, winning all the special awards such as Best in Musicality, Best in Costume and Best in Streetdancing, winning P5,000 each.
The contingent received P50,000 for bagging the championship title, while contingent number two from a women’s organization in the said barangay received P30,000 as 2nd place winner. They also won the grand prize in the Higante (Giant) competition and Kiddie Kahimunan. Entry number 3, on the other hand was declared 3rd place and received P20,000.
Despite the heavy downpour just before the performance of the first contingent, it did not hinder the crowd at around 3,000 from witnessing the city’s only featured streetdancing competition, held annually in time with the feast of Brgy. Libertad here, in honor of patron saint – Senior Santo NiΓ±o.
The 2012 Kahimunan Festival was exclusively participated by the puroks and organizations in Barangay Libertad.
In an earlier interview, Barangay Captain Vincent Rizal Rosario said this year’s festival is exclusive for Barangay Libertad contingents only. He said this is because they experienced financial and time constraints in the preparation of the annual festival.
However, the official said the contingents can hire instrumentalists from the neighboring provinces and cities in the region so that performance will still be colorful, festive and entertaining to the crowd.
Kahimunan is the local version of Cebu City’s Sinulog Festival which is also held every 3rd Sunday of January.
Meanwhile, Butuan City Mayor Ferdinand Amante, Jr. expressed his elation over the success of the festival as police officers reported no violence during the whole day activity.
It was learned that barangay officials have requested the assistance of Police Regional Office (PRO)-13 to ensure peace and security during the celebration. PRO-13’s Camp Rafael Rodriguez is located near the Sto. NiΓ±o Shrine, Libertad, this city. (PIA-Caraga)

Surigao Norte gov unveils 2012 priority projects
SURIGAO DEL NORTE, Jan. 16 (PIA) -– Governor Sol Matugas recently unveiled her 2012 priority agenda under her Health, Environment and Education, Agriculture and Aquaculture, Livelihood and Security (HEALS) program during a Barangay Development Forum held at Dapa Gymnasium.
Matugas said focus will be specifically on the immediate construction of more school buildings, the Provincial Hospital in Sta. Cruz, Bad-as, Placer; implementation of organic agriculture and Mari culture; and the construction of community learning center, women’s center and cooperatives.
Acknowledging the role of senior citizens in the society, the lady governor is also bent on implementing health day for senior citizens.

DILG-Caraga to conduct Business Planning Workshop for LGUs

BUTUAN CITY, Jan. 16 (PIA) -- The Regional Office of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in Caraga, in partnership with the Local Government Academy and Agencia EspaΓ±ola de Cooperacion Internacional para el Desarrollo, will conduct a Business Planning Workshop on January 18-19, 2012 at the Almont Hotel’s Inland Resort, this city.
Some 15 local government units are expected to participate in the said training, which will be attended by City/Municipal Economic Enterprises Development Officers, City/Municipal Planning and Development Coordinators, City/Municipal Accountants, Sangguniang Panlungsod Chairpersons of the Committee on Trade and Commerce and City /Municipal Local Government Operations Officers.
DILG Regional Director Atty. Rene K. Burdeos said that the workshop aims to assist the LGUs’ economic enterprises through the significant inputs to be given by speakers. This will help bridge gaps relative to management and development of their respective entrepreneurial activities.
He also said that the workshop will stress the importance and purpose of a business plan and will be an eye opener for LGUs to identify new business opportunities which will best suit them.
Lowell C. Brillante, economic enterprise manager of Tagum City, will share the City’s Best Practice on LGU Eco Enterprise Practices to inspire LGUs of Caraga Region.

DILG-Caraga to conduct Business Planning Workshop for LGUs

BUTUAN CITY, Jan. 16 (PIA) -- The Regional Office of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in Caraga, in partnership with the Local Government Academy and Agencia EspaΓ±ola de Cooperacion Internacional para el Desarrollo, will conduct a Business Planning Workshop on January 18-19, 2012 at the Almont Hotel’s Inland Resort, this city.
Some 15 local government units are expected to participate in the said training, which will be attended by City/Municipal Economic Enterprises Development Officers, City/Municipal Planning and Development Coordinators, City/Municipal Accountants, Sangguniang Panlungsod Chairpersons of the Committee on Trade and Commerce and City /Municipal Local Government Operations Officers.
DILG Regional Director Atty. Rene K. Burdeos said that the workshop aims to assist the LGUs’ economic enterprises through the significant inputs to be given by speakers. This will help bridge gaps relative to management and development of their respective entrepreneurial activities.
He also said that the workshop will stress the importance and purpose of a business plan and will be an eye opener for LGUs to identify new business opportunities which will best suit them.
Lowell C. Brillante, economic enterprise manager of Tagum City, will share the City’s Best Practice on LGU Eco Enterprise Practices to inspire LGUs of Caraga Region.
At the end of the workshop, the participants are expected to craft and present action plans for the development of their economic activities. (DILG 13/PIA-Caraga)
