AGUSAN DEL SUR, March 30 (PIA) -- The Provincial Tourism Council recently convened to prepare for the coming week-long celebration of the 20th Naliyagan Festival 2012 that will take place June 12 and culminate on June 17, 2012.
According to Provincial Tourism Officer Elizabeth Gilot, they have already conducted the assessment of the 2011 Naliyagan Festival and they have already identified activities that will be enjoyed by visitors and tourists
“I think it is a waste of money if we spend big amount to activities not really enjoyed by most of the people witnessing the Naliyagan Festival. We are therefore bound to eliminate those activities and replace them with other activities that can catch the attention of both local residents and visitors so that the celebration will be more enjoyable and meaningful. With the next meeting, we can already come up with this year’s theme if we have already lined up the final activities,” Gilot said.
Gilot also said that big events like the street dancing competition, the motocross competition, and the search for Bae Naliyagan will stay in the list of activities, and added that the support of the 13 municipalities and the lone city of Bayugan is already in the bag.
The Naliyagan Festival is an annual festivity in Agusan del Sur where unique customs and tradition of the Agusan natives are portrayed. It started in 1992 after then Gov. Democrito O. Plaza was reelected governor of Agusan del Sur.
The culmination of the Naliyagan Festival every 17th day of June is also the founding anniversary of the province and this year will be the 45th founding anniversary. (RER/PIA-Agusan del Sur)
