Caraganon youths joins 9th Nat'l Youth Parliament

BUTUAN CITY, April 18 (PIA) -- Four top leaders from Caraga Youth Leaders’ Network (CYLN) qualified to participate in the 9th National Youth Parliament in Naga City, Bicol Region from May 2-6, 2012.
The 9th National Youth Parliamentarian are the following: Mary Joy Castorico (Butuan City) - chair, Caraga Youth learders’ Council against HIV & AIDS; Gerraldo Morales (Butuan City) - chair, Caraga Youth Journalists Council; Joinie Verdeflor (Bislig City) - Chair, Caraga Youth Leaders Council for Environmental Sustainability; and Joseph Ian Sabado (Butuan City) – Regional Facilitator.
The four youth leaders will present, debate and defend their youth policy and recommendations before the parliament as a national stand of the Filipino youths towards other concerned parties.
“It is a great opportunity for Caraganon youths to participate in this high level youth gathering of the country. This means that our youths are competent to engage into national events,” Rex F. Ybanez, CEO of Caraga Youth Laders’ Network Inc., said.
In 1996, the National Youth Commission (NYC) launched the first National Youth Parliament (NYP). It is a three-day convention of youth leaders held every after two years where policy recommendations are formulated to address youth issues. It also serves as the government’s guide in policy formulation and program development.
Since then, youth leaders gather biennially to share ideas and gain valuable insights and networks to aid them in their youth development efforts. Finally, the 2012 Parliamentarians were chosen and are composed of 20 based on NGA nomination.
Some 160 youth leaders are expected to join the 9th NYP slated on May 2-6 in Naga City, Camarines Sur.
With the theme: “Revolutionizing Youth Development,” the parliament aims to uphold the mandate of the national and local government through resolutions as commanded by R.A. 8044 or the Youth and National-building Act. (RER/CYLN/PIA-Caraga)

BUTUAN CITY, April 18 (PIA) -- Ang Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Caraga Region gi-anunsiyo ang 63 high school graduates nga diin ni qualify sa 2012 DOST-Science Education Institute (SEI) scholarship programs.
Sigun sa DOST-Caraga Assistant Regional Director for Technical Operation Dominga D. Mallonga, sa mga niqualify nga mga aplikante, 57 niini nga mga kabus apan angayan nga mamahimong iskolar ang ni-qualify sa Republic Act (RA) 7687 Scholarship grants, o naila sa Science and Technology Scholarship Act of 1994.
Unom usab ka aplikante ang ni qualify sa DOST-SEI Merit Scholarship program.
Ang Science and Technology Scholarship Program ubos sa RA 7687 of 1994 nagahatag og scholarships sa baccalaureate degrees ug three-year technician courses. Kini gihatag sa mga talented ug angayan nga mga studyante nga naggikan sa mga pobre nga pamilya. Sa pikas bahin, ang DOST-SEI Undergraduate Scholarship Prgram o Merit Scholarship nga nagsugod niadtong 1958 nagahatag og BS scholarships sa mga prayoridad nga kurso sa Science and Technology.
