BUTUAN CITY, May 2 (PIA) -- In support to the
government’s efforts in providing livelihood and education to the community,
the Rotary Club of Metro Butuan (RCMB) is launching the “Adopt a Village"
project in Barangay Tagabaca, this city, replicating its accomplished project
in Barangay Nongnong.
In a press statement, RCMB President Arfe
Bermudez said this is the second time that their project partners abroad are
willing to support them after the success of the first holistic project in
Barangay Nongnong which transformed the school into what it is now.
The Rotary Club of Sebastopol, CA., U.S.A is the
one supporting and funding said project.
“We also have an ongoing project in the
municipality of Jabonga, Agusan del Norte in a small scale, addressing key
issues on education and livelihood specifically on cattle dispersal,” said
Bermudez.
RCMB is a non-government organization extending volunteerism,
and has also been an active partner of the government in providing livelihood
projects in the community.
The Rotary is known for its Four-Way Test and
its mottos such as "Service Above Self," which was coined in 1950,
and the "He Profits Most Who Serves Best," which was minted way back

DA-Caraga, partners spearhead natl confab in
Butuan

BUTUAN CITY, May 2 (PIA) -- The Department of
Agriculture (DA) Caraga Regional Field Office, in partnership with the
Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) and P4MP National Federation are
spearheading the conduct of the Pambansang Mananalon, Mag-uuma, Magbabaul,
Magsasaka (P4MP) National Convention that will commence today, May 2 and will
run until May 4.
According to DA-Caraga OIC Regional Director
Edna Mabeza, DA Assistant Secretary Dante Delima is expected to grace the
occasion.
The convention will offer the farmer-leaders the
opportunities available to them so they can maximize their participation and
contribution in the attainment of the goals and objectives of the agricultural
programs of government.
The activity, which is anchored on the theme,
“Pagkakaisa ng Magsasaka Tungo sa Kaunlaran ng Kabuhayan at Kalikasan,” will be
held at Almont Hotel’s Inland Resort here.
Regional, provincial and city farmer association
representatives all over the country together with the farmers’ association
coordinators from DA regional field offices and the regional executive

BUTUAN CITY, May 2 (PIA) -- The regional office
of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) is set to launch this
year’s celebration of Farmers’ and Fisherfolks’ Month.
The event recognizes the contributions to the
national economy of the farmers and fisher folks, which constitute half of the
labor force in the country.
BFAR-Caraga Regional Director Nerio G. Casil
said the series of activities have been planned for the entire month of May, which
are expected to benefit the marginal fisher folks in the region.
Meanwhile, another notable undertaking to be
held during the opening program is the installation of the Fisherfolk Director
by virtue of the Department of Agriculture Special Order No. 88, series of
2005, where national and regional fisher folk leaders who had been chosen by
their peers shall act as the BFAR directors at the national and regional levels
for the whole month of May.
Chosen from among the fisher folk council of
leaders in Caraga Region to be this year’s regional director is a leader from
Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur - Marceliano B. Monato Jr.- who will sit and do the
work of the regional director of BFAR-13 during the duration of the Farmers’
and Fisherfolk’s month.
The reason for placing a fisher person regional
director is to further dramatize and popularize their empowerment and
participation as government partners.
In a congruent move, BFAR-13 Regional Director
Nerio G. Casil will immerse himself in the villages of his choice and view the
fisheries sector through the eyes of a fisherman to gain fresh insights and
keep in touch with the sector.
Other equally important activities that will
mark the event include the region-wide fingerling dispersal, mangrove planting,
and awarding of environment-friendly fishing gears like gill nets, jiggers, and
traps to deserving fisherfolk, in coordination with local government units.
Aside from the consistent above mentioned
pertinent activities, the agency will likewise go into the various fisheries
technology transfer through conducting enhancement trainings and seminars all

Surigao celebrates 111th Founding Anniversary
SURIGAO CITY, May 2 (PIA) -- The provincial
government of Surigao del Norte has lined-up different activities for the
celebration of its 111th Founding Anniversary with the theme, “One People… One
Lifetime: Celebrating One Hundred Eleven Years of Proud History and Rich
Cultural Heritage.”
Just this morning, the celebration kicked-off
with a parade from the Capitol compound to the provincial gym (outside),
participated by the provincial officials, employees, mountain bike and BMX
associations, and Surigao City swimming team.
On May 3, a singing competition for children
dubbed as Surigao’s Got Talent will be held at the Luneta Park. While on May 4,
the opening program for the Governor’s Cup (Swimming Competition) will then be
conducted at the swimming pool of the Provincial Sports Complex, this will be
followed by a Governor’s Got Talent – Folk Dance Competition (Elementary and
High School category) on the evening, again, at the Luneta Park.
The adult category for Surigao’s Got Talent
singing competition will then be conducted on May 5 at Luneta Park. Likewise,
the opening of Surigao’s Got Talent Open Hip-Hop Dance Competition will take
place still at the same park on May 7. Said activity will start at 7:00pm.
As a highlight to the various activities
relative to the anniversary, a showdown of Surigao’s Festivals dubbed as “Sajaw

Boards (RTWPB) aron dalion ang ilang mga konsultasyon, dialogues ug mga pagtuon
ngadto sa posibilidad nga mahatagan ang mga Filipino sa dugay ng pangandoy nga
pagtaas sa suholan.
Ang Pangulo mibutyag sa iyang mando ngadto sa
RTWPB sa iyang mensahe sa okasyon sa selebrasyon sa 110th Labor Day kagahapon

mamahimo nang makalayo sa pag-import sa bugas sa tuig 2013.
Sigon ni Provincial Agriculturist Marco Quico,
ang Department of Agriculture (DA) nagasuporta sa probinsya ug kini makita sa
pagbayad sa mga pondo, usa ka pruweba nga si Secretary Proceso Alcala seryoso
sa pagresulba sa problema sa kakulangon sa bugas sa nasud.
Gibalitang si Sec. Alcala nagplano sa pagpugong
sa pag-impot sa bugas sa sunod nga tuig.
Gibutyag usab ni Quico nga ang Surigao del Sur
nakakuha og P700 milyones nga alokasyon karon nga tuig alang sa irigasyon nga
proyekto. Dugang usab niya nga kini sobra sa P600 milyones nga pondo nga
gitagama sa National Irrigation Administration (NIA) office nga gilaumang
makuha.
Dugang sa opisyal nga ang Pilipinas adunay 1.7
