Agusan del Sur Red Cross elects Board of Directors

By David M. Suyao

AGUSAN DEL SUR, July 31 (PIA) -- Members of the Philippine Red Cross Agusan del Sur Chapter (PRC-AdS) have re-elect five, and elected two new members to the 14-member board of directors (BOD) during the 7th Biennial Chapter Assembly and election conducted last July 28 at the Provincial Training Center, Government Center, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur.

In his welcome address, PRC-AdS Vice Chairman of the Board and provincial administrator Jesusimo Ronquillo said, PRC-AdS has been one of the very active partner of the provincial government in times of calamities and disaster in the relief operation. Being a flood prone area, PRC-AdS has reached even the most remote areas in Agusan del Sur conducting delivery of relief goods to flood victims while feeding hungry victims who cannot cook their food in the absence of safe drinking water and cooking utensils.

“Because of the active role of the PRC-AdS before, during and after calamities in the province, the provincial government is giving its full support to the Red Cross, by donating a lot and a new building designed to meet the Red Cross need, while shouldering the cost of re-agents every year in our blood program. These are just few that I can mention with regards to the assistance extended by the provincial government to Red Cross,” Dir. Ronquillo said.

In his message, PRC member of the Board of Governors Andrew Nocon said, people in Agusan del Sur are very lucky to have a governor like Gov. Adolph Edward Plaza because of his genuine spirit of volunteerism. Gov. Nocon added, that never in the entire country that a provincial government has donated a lot and a building to Red Cross, while extending financial and technical assistance.

“I want to tell you that when I retired from service, like your governor, I chose to engage myself as volunteer in order to expand the delivery of services that I missed when I was with the Philippine Air Force. When I became a volunteer of the Red Cross, I feel deep joy, very different from that when I was in my job and was paid for it. And I want to tell you, that when you are already filled with that spirit of volunteerism, you will be longing for it the rest of your life, and without you knowing, it is a spirit that influence many people. That is why, I am very happy to see young and old faces of volunteers here in Agusan del Sur, ready to serve their fellow men,” Gov. Nocon said.

In 2008, PRC-AdS conducted chapter assembly and election in order to re-structure the members of the board who have been inactive for several years due to no election conducted. PRC-AdS voting members elected the 14 members of the board, with mandate that the first seven elected members (1-7) will serve for four years and the second seven elected members (8-14) will serve for only two years.

In 2010, another assembly and election was held for the second seven members whose term expired after two years, and will serve for another four years as members of the board. This year, 2012, the posts of the first seven elected members of the board during the 2008 election expired and the new re-elected and elected members will again serve for the next four years. By Susil D. Ragas
