DSWD Caraga to host Elderly Filipino Week 2012

BUTUAN CITY, August 29 (PIA) -- The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-Caraga region will host this year’s annual celebration of Elderly Filipino Week 2012 slated on October 1-7.

Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation no. 470, October 1-7 is declared as “Linggo ng Katandaang Filipino” (Elderly Filipino Week) which aims to promote public awareness of the rights and well-being of elderly people in the country.

During the Regional Inter-agency Committee for Senior Citizens (RIAC-SC) meeting spearheaded by DSWD-Caraga, the committee has lined-up activities for the weeklong celebration.

A Jog for Health and Hataw to be participated by some physically fit senior citizens and the RIAC-SC members will be held as the kickoff activity of the celebration.

As highlight activities of the weeklong celebration the RIAC-SC will also conduct jail visitations to senior citizen inmates of the city and provincial jails slated on October 3, 2012, as well as a Summer Camp for Elderly to be participated by some senior citizens from the five provinces of Caraga region on October 9, 2012.

Some member agencies of RIAC-SC also pledged goodies to please the senior citizens during the Elderly Filipino Week Celebration. (RER/DSM/PIA-Caraga)


Agusan Norte Tourism Dev't Plan nears completion

AGUSAN DEL NORTE, Aug. 29 (PIA) -- The Provincial Tourism Development Plan of the Province of Agusan del Norte is nearing completion. The plan, which is mandated by the Local Government Code of 1991 otherwise known as R.A. 7160, Sec. 17, aims to develop potential tourist attractions within their respective localities, and to formulate development and promotion programs.

The said plan has specific objectives that are eyed to contribute a steady growth for Agusan del Norte’s economy which has a Natural Draw provided by its outstanding natural assets that bode well for its future in tourism development.

The priority tourism destinations are leaning towards the following areas: Lake Mainit Circuit – Lantawan View Park and Kalinawan River Cruise; Butuan Bay West Circuit – Punta Diwata Dive Sites, Mt. Carmel View Park and Nasipit Cove Marina; Cultural Heritage Circuit – Cabadbaran City Heritage Houses, Bitaug Centennial Tree and the First Mass Marker, Delta River Cruise; and Mountain Adventure Circuits such as the Hilong-hilong Waterfalls Route; Pirada Mine-Tunnel and Horse Back Riding Loop. Province supports Jabonga for Makamasang Tugon Program

AGUSAN DEL NORTE, Aug. 29 (PIA) -- The Municipality of Jabonga will receive P1 million from the provincial government here as funding counterpart for the implementation of projects under the Makamasang Tugon 2 Program.

The said municipality is one of the beneficiaries of the KALAHI CIDSS Makamasang Tugon project granted by the national government through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), which is co-financed by the municipality and the province.

Six barangays of Jabonga will benefit from the funding support. The projects will include construction of fish landing and market at Barangay A. Beltran; construction of 0.30 kilometer concrete road each of barangays Magdagooc, Sto. NiΓ±o and San Vicente; construction of day care center at Barangay Cuyago; and Construction of evacuation center at Barangay Magsaysay.

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan has already authorized Governor Erlpe John M. Amante to transfer said funds through Sanggunian Resolution No. 177-2012 authored by Vice Governor Enrico R. Corvera. (NCLM/JACorvera/LGU-Agusan del Norte/PIA-Agusan del Norte)


Korea donates agri equipment to Agusan Norte

AGUSAN DEL NORTE, Aug 29 (PIA) -- As part of its corporate social responsibility to upgrade the agricultural equipment and the farm production of the province, Korea International Agricultural Development Institute (IADI) President Lee Byoung Hwa executed a deed of donation comprising three 4-wheel tractors, crops mill, mole plow, spare parts, accessories and some vegetable seeds like Chinese cabbage, mini radish and large radish.

The province believes that said donations will help improve the agricultural production of its farmers and generate more income for them.

Through Sangguniang Resolution No. 212-2012 authored by Board Member Aquino W. Gambe, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan approved the said resolution.

Tagalog news: ConsumerNet Caraga naghahanda sa gaganaping Consumer Welfare Month

BUTUAN CITY, Agosto 29 (PIA) – Pinaghahandaan na ngayon ng Consumer Network (ConsumerNet)-Caraga sa pakikipagtulungan ng Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Caraga ang gaganaping pagdiriwang ng Consumer Welfare Month sa taong ito. Ito ay napag-alaman kamakailan sa isang pagtitipong dinaluhan ng mga kasaping ahensya ng nasabing organisasyon

Ayon kay Elmer Natad ng DTI-Caraga, ngayong Oktubre 1, kasabay ng pangunahing aktibidad sa pagdiriwang ng Consumer Welfare Month, ang ConsumerNet ay lalagda sa isang memorandum of agreement (MOA) na gaganapin sa D&V building grounds dito sa lungsod. Aniya, ito ay upang ipaalala sa mga kasaping ahensya ang kanilang papel sa pagpapatupad ng mga batas para sa kaunlaran ng mga konsumador.

Kasunod ng MOA signing ay ang pagsasagawa ng dalawang araw na Diskwento Caravan na gaganapin sa parehong lugar, kung saan ang lokal na pamahalaan ng lungsod pati na ang lokal na tri-media ay kabilang din sa mga sasali sa nasabing motorcade.

Dagdag ng opsyal ang pagdiriwang ay magtatapos sa pamamagitan ng isang public forum na tinatawag na: “ConsumerNet Meets Public” ngayong Oktubre 31 sa Luciana Convention Center dito.

Ang mga target na mga kalahok naman ng forum ay ang mga representante ng consumer organizations ng rehiyon, youth organizations, senior citizens, government employees, transport groups, academe, at iba pa.

Ito ay magsisilbing lugar naman para sa mga partisipante upang isangguni ang kani-kanilang mga isyu, mga mungkahi at rekomendasyon sa harap ng mga ahensya ng pamahalaan at mga kasamahan na ahensya na nangunguna sa pagbibigay ng kaunlaran sa mga konsumador.

Ang ConsumerNet naman ay magsasagawa ng quiz bowl sa huling araw ng pagdiriwang na dadaluhan ng mga mag-aaral galing sa iba't-ibang paaralan ng rehiyon bilang mga kalahok sa aktibidad.

Samantala, pinapaalahanan ng DTI-Caraga ang publiko hinggil sa kanilang mga karapatan bilang mga konsumador at hinikayat ang mga ito na sumuporta sa programa at serbisyo na ibinibigay ng pamahalaan. (RER/DSM/PIA-Caraga)
