KBP, DILG to Launch BroadcasTREEing Project 2012
By Florian Faith Jr. P. Bayawa
BUTUAN CITY, Aug. 31 (PIA) -- The Kapisanan ng
mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) and the Department of the Interior and Local
Government (DILG) will launch the 2012 BroadcasTREEing Project, which is slated
on September 15, 2012 in 30 KBP chapters in the country.
The Tree Planting activity is pursuant to a
memorandum of agreement executed between KBP and DILG last April 27, 2012
during KBP’s 38th Founding Anniversary at the Crown Regency Hotel in Makati.
The agreement is to continue the tree-planting program initiated by KBP focused
at the affected areas in the country by deforestation, and it seeks a unified
effort with DILG.
To mitigate the adverse effects of global
warming and climate change, the 2012 BroadcasTREEing Project will enjoin the
widest involvement and participation of local government units (LGUs)
especially in the barangay level, Office of the Presidential Communications
Development and Strategic Planning, Philippine Information Agency, tri-media,
government agencies, and the private sector/civil society organizations.
Vital to the role of the DILG is to issue
directives and advisories to LGUs down to the barangays to forge partnerships
with KBP local chapters for the successful implementation of public information
campaign on the tree planting program. This would also involve the Department of
the Environment and Natural Resources with regard to the identification of
planting sites and the provision of seedlings for the tree planting activity.
The KBP is now rendering air time for public
service announcements in order to help enlighten the general public on the
significance of the program and mobilize them for successful involvement.

BJMP-Caraga celebrates 21st anniversary
By By Florian Faith Jr. P. Bayawa
BUTUAN CITY, Aug. 31 (PIA) -- The Bureau of Jail
Management and Penology (BJMP) Region 13-Caraga has celebrated its 21st Year
Anniversary with the theme, “Nangangalaga at Gumagabay Tungo sa Matuwid na
Buhay” in one of the convention centers here.
In her speech, Department of the Interior and
Local Government (DILG) Region 13 OIC-Director Lilibeth A. Famacion extended
her warmest greetings to BJMP officials for their continued and committed
service. Director Famacion said the 21st Anniversary marks the existence of the

Teenage childbearing high in Caraga
By Angie Balen- Antonio
BUTUAN CITY, Aug. 30 (PIA) -- Caraga ranked
number 1 among the regions in the country in terms of the incidence of teenage
childbearing.
Results of the 2011 Family Health Survey
disclosed that 15 percent of the women aged 15 – 19 years old have begun
childbearing followed by Region XI (13.8 percent) and Region XII (13.6
percent).
Study further revealed that teenage mothers had
increased to 11.6 percent, from 4.3 percent in 2006.
The Commission on Population, in its various
IEC/advocacy activities, associated teenage childbearing to higher risks to
illnesses and death of both mother and baby, and it would also mean higher
total fertility especially if they do not have access to family planning
services.
RD Camilo S. Pangan always reminded teenagers to
have appropriate values and grounding when put in the crossroads of giving-in
to sexual desires. Delaying sexual gratification is almost always the best
option.
“Due to the lack of quality parent-child
relationships, many youths turn instead to their friends, media or surf the
internet as they believe these could be valuable sources of information,”
Pangan said.
In support of the arising problem of teenage
childbearing, Popcom distributed a film entitled “Crossroads” to the
Provincial/City Population Offices, as another strategy to reach the hearts and
minds of teenagers as the movie illustrates some risky behaviors of the youth
and portrays life choices which have great consequences on a young person’s
life.
In a related development, the Provincial
Population Office of Surigao del Norte presented the film to the officers and
members of the Population and Development (PopDev) club in its recent Annual
convention. (NCLM/POPCOM-13/PIA-Caraga)
Tagalog news: 8 Red Cross volunteers nagsanay sa
pamamahala ng ambulansiya
Ni David M. Suyao
AGUSAN DEL SUR, Agosto 31 (PIA) -- Walong
cardio pulmonary resuscitation, at ambulance service operation.
Efren Cabardo, Jupiter Ladam, May Angelie dela Cruz, Rabin kaye dela Cruz,
Adolph Edward Plaza.
