Ateneo conducts trainings on disaster budget monitoring in Surigao del Sur

TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur, Nov. 26 (PIA) -- The Ateneo School of the Government (AsoG) recently conducted three-day training on Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM) Localization and Budget Monitoring in coordination with the provincial government here headed by Governor Johnny T. Pimentel.

According to Shirley BolaΓ±os, Mentor of Ateneo School of Government, the shift of focus from emergency response to disaster prevention and risk reduction is to directly address the vulnerability of the country to natural disasters due to climate change.

The event was held at the Provincial Capitol Conference Room and was participated by local government representatives from five municipalities of Hinatuan, Barobo, Marihatag, Tago, and San Miguel and the members of the PDRRM Council Technical Working Group.

LGU representatives composed of the local DRRM officers,budget officers, MSWD officers and municipal accountants were presented the organizational structure of the Local DRRM Council in their area on its second day of the workshop adapted from RA 10121 the shifts of focus from the emergency response into disaster prevention and risk reduction.

AsoG is commissioned to provide institutional support to government and local governments.

It aims to strengthen the governance among LGUs and policy-making in the local level in Climate Change Adaptation and DRRM. (NGBT/PIA-Surigao del Sur)


DAR participates in PDRRM contingency planning for Surigao del Sur

TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur, Nov. 26 (PIA) -- The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) has participated in the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management (PDRRM) Contingency Planning Formulation for Surigao del Sur particularly on flood emergency response held here recently.

The activity was conducted after the PDRRM council found it necessary to address the problems on flood experienced in several municipalities, and to formulate solution in partnership with national agencies.

According to Pagasa Hinatuan, starting end of October up to month of March, Surigao del Sur and the rest of the provinces in the region will experience wet season that may result to floods.

As member of the PDRRM council, DAR took part in the contingency planning of the provincial government of Surigao del Sur. Through this collaboration, the agency is manifesting its support to the local government for disaster risk preparedness and response.

The two-day workshop was also participated by other provincial and national government agencies such as the Departments of Public Works and Highways, Health, Education, Trade & Industry, Provincial Health Offices (PHO), National Irrigation Administration (NIA), Philippines Information Agency (PIA), Philippine National Police (PNP), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), and the Phil Red Cross (PRC).

LUNGSOD NG BUTUAN, Nob. 26 (PIA) -- Inilunsad kamakailan sa pangunguna ng Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council ang Youth Operative Urgency Nurturing Goodwill-Agusan del Norte Emergency Response Team (YOUNG-Adnert) na ginanap sa Provincial Training Center ng lungsod.

Ang paglulunsad ng YOUNG-Adnert ay naglalayong mapabilang ang mga kabataan sa Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Sustainability, ayon kay Ms. Erma Suyo, opisyal ng Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management.

“Naniniwala ang Agusan del Norte PDRRMC sa kahalagahan na maiugnay ang mga kabataan sa environment sustainability, disaster risk reduction and management decision making processes at tulungan ang mga kabataan na isipin na kaya nilang manguna sa kanilang komunidad,” dagdag pa ni Suyo.

Ito ay alinsunod din sa Republic Act 10121 o batas na naglalayong kilalanin ang kahalagahan ng mga kabataan sa Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, dagdag pa niya.

Kinikilala ng PDRRMC ang bahagi ng mga kabataan bilang: taga-sulong ng environmental ethics; tagahatid ng malawakang epekto sa pamayanan; makipagtulungan sa mga apektadong komunidad gaya ng mga mahihirap, kabataan, mga babae at matatanda; magtrabaho sa mga ahensyang kagaya ng environmental agency, local DRRM councils; paggamit o pag-integrate ng mga environmental component/element sa kanilang mga proyekto.

Kinikilala rin ng PDRRMC ang aktibong pakikilahok ng mga kabataan sa risk management at disaster prevention, community-based disaster management planning, restoration projects at sa clean up campaigns, drills at simulations bilang paghahanda sa lindol, sunog, pagguho ng lupa at iba pa.

Mahigit sa 172 na mga kabataan na galing sa mga munisipalidad ng Carmen, Nasipit, Buenavista, Remedios T. Romualdez, lungsod ng Cabadbaran, Magallanes, Tubay, Santiago, Jabongga, Kitcharao at Las Nieves ang nakilahok sa paglulunsad ng YOUNG-Adnert. (RER/NCLM/PIA-Caraga)

SURIGAO CITY, Nob. 26 (PIA) -- Gilusad kagahapon sa Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) ang gitawag nga “18-day Campaign to End Violence Against Women” isip parte sa mga paningkamot sa gobyernong Aquino aron protektahan ug barugan ang mga katungod sa mga kababayen-an panahon sa kagubot ug mga kalamidad.

Ang PCW, nga ubos sa pagdumala sa Office of the President, maoy mangulo sa kampanya gikan Nob. 25 ngadto Desyembre 12, 2012. Ang maong kalihukan, nga adunay tema nga “Violence Against Women --- Free Society in Times of Peace, Conflict and Calamity,” gisugdan kagahapon didto sa Quirino Grandstand sa Manila.
