IPs in San Miguel receive 'Give a Gift' from GMA

SURIGAO DEL SUR, Dec. 11 (PIA) -- The GMA Kapuso
Foundation Inc's "Give a Gift Alay sa Batang Pinoy” distributed Noche
Buena package to students of School for Indigenous Knowledge Arts and
Traditions (Sikat) school and community of Indigenous People (IP) identified as
a conflict area in San Miguel, Surigao del Sur on December 7-8 according to the
Philippine Army.
Capt Rowel Caacbay 36IB CMO officer revealed the
“Give a Gift” activity was successfully conducted through a Bayanihan effort in
coordination with the provincial government headed by Gov. Johnny Pimentel,
together with Department of Education headed by Schools Divisions
Superintendent Dr. Teofila Cabatuan, 36IB commanding Officer LTC Joseph Norwin
Pasamonte, and Municipal Tribal Chieftain Datu Rico Maca.
Cpt Caacbay also added that 1,632 gift packages
composed of toys, food stuff & personal hygiene kit had been distributed to
the clustered students of three Sikat schools from the residents of barangays
Bolhoon, Carromata, Upper Bagyang, Calatngan, and Bitaugan.
"A Give a Gift program is a step towards
enhancing IP education through Sikat. In partnership with the GMA Kapuso
Foundation and other stakeholders the main goals of this partnership is to
develop functional environment for IPs specially the young to develop their
individual skills into a competitive and progressive member of the community
through a quality education and skills development,” Pasamonte said.
The activity is in line with the Bayanihan in
partnership with the stakeholders under the “whole nation approach” of the
Internal Peace and Security Plan (IPSP) implemented by the Philippine Army.

Phil Red Cross to distribute relief Kits to the
victims of Pablo in Lingig town

SURIGAO DEL SUR, Dec. 11 (PIA) – The
International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) will distributed today the
relief kits to the victims of typhoon “Pablo” in partnership with the
Philippine Red Cross in Lingig town.
Lingig is among the towns here that was
devastated by the recent typhoon “Pablo” that destroyed several houses and
uprooted trees and claiming several lives and properties in Caraga region as
well as in Compostella Valley
As per report from the PDRRMC as of December 10,
casualties reported raised to four in Lingig while several posts of the power
lines also were damaged resulted to no power and communication had been
restored as of today in the area.
In an interview with PRC Chapter Administrator
Abel de Guzman, they will be distributed today the 1000 relief kits from the
ICRC to theidentified barangays in Lingig and according to him they had already
distributed the 380 kits in the said municipality earlier.
Each relief kit contained 25 kilos of rice, oil,
sardines, soy sauce; essential household items such as shelter kit (mosquito
net, blanket, water jug, and pail/basin) Kitchen kit (cauldron, plates, glass
etc) & hygiene kit (bath soap/laundry soap, toothpaste & tooth brush).

Entrepreneurs get early Christmas treat

BUTUAN CITY, Dec. 11 (PIA) -- The Sangguniang
Panlungsod in a resolution authorized a group of business enthusiasts to
display their goods along the sidewalk stretching from Asialink Department
Store up to the corner of P. Burgos Street during the duration of the Christmas
Season starting from December 1 to January 6 at business hours from 7 p.m. to
12 m.n.
The city government shall provide portable tents
that will be used by the vendors with a rental fee of P120 a day. This is
imposed to simply insure the beauty and uniformity of the City.
This opportunity was given by the City
Government of Butuan to a group of vendors to help promote our business
industry in this city and help empower small business groups to excel and be
known in their respective crafts. With this, it will create more job
opportunities for the people of this city giving them a worthwhile livelihood
for the Christmas holidays.
Vice Mayor Law Fortun said this is their way of
helping the vendors gain livelihood who have been threatened to be demolished
recently. According to Fortun that in the spirit of Christmas, these small
entrepreneurs should also be accorded humane treatment for which their presence

Panlungsod has authorize City Mayor Ferdinand M. Amante, Jr. to sign a
memorandum of understanding with Father Saturnino Urios University (FSUU) for
the latter to develop a Butuan City Tourism Master Plan.
The FSUU will provide technical assistance in
