PhilHealth revs for ‘PhilHealth Run’ on its 18th
anniversary

BUTUAN CITY, Feb. 14 (PIA) -- The run, anchored
on the theme “PhilHealth Run 2013: Nationwide Run for Mother and Child
Protection,” will be held in 18 regional offices nationwide on Feb. 17. These
are: Manila, Baguio, Dagupan, Tuguegarao, Clark, Malolos, Sta. Rosa, Batangas,
Legazpi, Iloilo, Cebu, Tacloban, Zamboanga, Cagayan de Oro, Davao, Koronadal,
Butuan, and Marawi, said Johnny Sychua, PhilHealth-Caraga regional vice
president.
In time with the 18th anniversary celebration of
the Philippine Health (PhilHealth) Insurance Corporation on Thursday, Sychua
added that there are already 2,216 registered runners in Caraga from the 3,000
target for the simultaneous run on Sunday.
Sychua also announced that a series of
activities are set from February to March to celebrate its 18th year.
Among the activities include the Hospital
Visitation (interaction with the patient-beneficiaries); Bloodletting in
partnership with the Philippine Red Cross; Basic Training on Photography; and
PhilHealth Employees Night.
It was also learned that a "PhilHealth
Express" will soon be launched in Surigao City for fast services. In
Butuan City, it will be situated in Langihan.
Meanwhile, PhilHealth emphasized that they are
still accepting registrants until February 16, Saturday.
With this, PhilHealth hoped for the support of
the general public for this endeavor which will benefit the sexually and

DILG Caraga releases P17-M Performance Challenge
Fund to three LGUs

BUTUAN CITY, Feb. 14 (PIA) -- The Department of
the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Caraga has released a total of P17
million Performance Challenge Fund (PCF) to Butuan City and the provinces of
Agusan del Sur and Surigao del Sur.
DILG-Caraga Regional Director Lilibeth Famacion
said the PCF is a performance-based incentive conferred to LGUs for having
passed the Seal of Good Housekeeping (SGH).
“This is to stimulate their performance in
putting a premium on development initiatives for their constituents,” she
added.
The city government of Butuan through City Mayor
Ferdinand M. Amante, Jr. received the PCF check worth P3 million for the
establishment of fountain with sound and information system at Guingona Park
(formerly Rizal Park) of Butuan City on February 1 at the DILG-Caraga Regional
Office.
Likewise, the Province of Agusan del Sur
received the PCF check worth P7 million to fund the construction of upgrade
bio-sand filter facilities and the establishment of rainwater collection on
February 12, at the Office of the Governor, Government Center, Patin-ay,
Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur. The check was handed by Director Famacion and
received by Governor Adolph Edward G. Plaza with the presence of DILG-AdS
Provincial Director Arleen Ann R. Sanchez and LGOO VI Elva Theresa D. Velmonte.
Governor Johnny M. Pimentel of the Province of
Surigao del Sur also received the P7 M PCF check for the rehabilitation/repair
of Brgy. Dughan-Causwagon-San Roque-Gamut Farm-to-Market Road of the
Municipality of Barobo, Surigao del Sur during the Regional Peace and Order
Council (RPOC) Meeting at Big Daddy’s Restaurant, Butuan City on February 13.
PCF is the banner program of DILG which is aimed
to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and to initiate local
development projects for tourism and local economic development through road
network maintenance and compliance to the objectives of the Philippine Disaster
Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010 and the Ecological Solid Waste

Lawmakers call for modernization of Caraga
Regional Hospital
BUTUAN CITY, Feb. 14 (PIA) -- Caraga
representatives to the Lower House is in full support of the proposed
modernization of Caraga Regional Hospital located in Surigao City, Surigao del
Norte.
According to the Department of Health-Center for
Health Development Caraga regional director Ariel I Valencia, all the nine
lawmakers of the region already signed the letter of endorsement.
It is envisioned to become a teaching and
training hospital at par with notable hospitals in the country which will serve
the region and the neighboring areas especially the poorest of the poor.
A three-year development plan for this purpose
will cost P500 million. Potential fund source are the revenues from the sin
taxes.
It was after World War II that the Philippine
Congress appropriated for the construction of a 25 bed provincial hospital in
the province of Surigao del Norte. With the increasing number of admissions and
the new trends in hospital management and treatment, in February 11, 1997, by
virtue of R.A. 8255, the Surigao Provincial Hospital was converted into Caraga
Regional Hospital with an authorized bed capacity of 150.
Today, Caraga Regional Hospital is the core
referral hospital in the region even serving the neighboring provinces of
Leyte.
However, with the increasing demand for quality
care as mandated by the Aquino Health Agenda through Kalusugan Pangkalahatan,
it is imminent that Caraga Regional Hospital must expand its services, fully
equip its facilities, and build the capacities of the health worker to better
serve the community.
In addition, Director Valencia will present this
proposal to the Regional Development Council-Social Development Committee for

'PhilHealth Run' to raise funds, foster physical
fitness
BUTUAN CITY, Feb. 14 (PIA) -- The Department of
Health-Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD) Caraga Regional Director, Ariel
I. Valencia signifies full support to the PhilHealth Run 2013 on February 17 in
Butuan City.
According to director Valencia, the Nationwide
Run for Mother and Child Protection will not only raise funds to support
programs and services for mother and child but will also foster physical
fitness among Caraganons of all ages regardless of gender.
In line with this, February is the month of
hearts, thus DOH-CHD Caraga, is stepping up efforts to promote Healthy
Lifestyle by loving and taking care of our hearts.
Valencia emphasizes on, “Being physically active
by engaging in regular exercises or sports to not only build physical strength
but also control our weight and boost our immune system.”
Stopping smoking or not to smoke at all is one
of the best preventions against heart diseases and any form of cancer. Other
ways to care for our heart; eat fruits, vegetables, grains and fish instead of
high fat and salty foods, maintain an ideal body weight, avoid alcoholic
beverages, don’t abuse drugs, sleep at least seven hours a night, manage
stress, and monitor your blood pressure.
Meanwhile, the health sector is also celebrating
Oral Health Month this February with the theme, “Ngipin Pangalagaan, Sakit
Maiwasan, Bansa’y Matulungan Tungo sa Kaunlaran.”
Proper oral health through proper tooth brushing
and regular dental check up (every 6 months) is often neglected by most
Filipinos. Thus, tooth decay and diseases remains one of public health
concerns. Parents of children below 5 years old and pregnant women are
encouraged to visit their nearest dentist for prophylaxis or proper oral care.

dahil sa illegal na pagmimina

AGUSAN DEL SUR, Peb. 14 (PIA) -- Tatlong Tsino
ang hinuli ng mga tauhan ng Bureau of Immigration (BI) sa lungsod ng Cagayan de
Oro dahil sa illegal na pagmimina.
Sinabi ni BI Commissioner Ricardo David na
nahuli ang mga naturang tsino noong Enero 30 ng papuntahin niya ang mga ahente
ng BI at sunduin ang mga minero na palalayain na matapos silang makapagpyansa.
Ayon kay David, ang tatlong Tsino ay hindi
nakapagpakita ng kanilang pasaporte pero mayroong mga ACR I cards na
nagpakilalang sila ay mga turista lamang.
“Ang tatlo ay humaharap sa deportation
proceedings sa kasalukuyan dahil sa paglabag sa batas ng pagmimina,” sabi ng hepe
ng BI. Dagdag pa ni David, ang mga naturang nahuli ay sinampahan din ng kaso
dahil walang silang pinanghahawakan na tamang mga dokumento at paglabag sa mga
alituntunin dahil sila ay nagpanggap na turista habang nagtatrabaho dito sa
bansa na walang sapat na permiso.
Ngunit ayon kay David ang mga hinuli ay hindi pa
maaaring paalisin ng bansa, dahil sa mga kasong kriminal na nakabinbin pang
isasampa sa korte.
Napag alaman na naaresto ang mga naturang Tsinon
ng mga tauhan ng Criminal Invetigation and Detection Group (CIDG) at ng Mines
and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) ng Department of Environment and Natural Resources
(DENR) noong Enero 24.
Ayon sa ulat, nahuli ang mga sinasabing tsino sa
aktong kumukuha ng mga mineral sa Barangay Tumpagon, Cagayan del Oro nang
walang permiso at tamang papeles.
Naisampa na rin ang kaso laban sa mga salarin
dahil sa paglabag sa batas ng pagmimina sa municipal circuit trial court sa
Cagayan de Oro City.
Nakapagpiyansa noon ang abugado ng mga salarin
para sa kanilang pansamantalang kalayaan na siya namang nakapagtulak sa CIDG na
ipaalam sa BI ang mga kasong kinakaharap ng mga ito.
Inatasan ni David ang BI alien control officer
sa Cagayan de Oro na si Manuel Neri na siyang humawak at magbantay sa mga
akusado habang hinihintay ang grupo ng mga BI mula sa Maynila na siyang
magdadala ng mga akusado para ikulong sa piitan ng Immigration sa Bicutan,

AGUSAN DEL SUR, Peb. 14 (PIA) -- Nagpasalamat si
Secretary Dinky Soliman ng Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)
sa Department of Budget and Management (DBM) sa pagbibigay nito ng parangal sa
DSWD bilang pinakamabuting kagawaran ng pamahalaan.
Ito ay isang parangal na binibigay sa mga
pambansang tanggapan sa kanilang kapasidad ng tamang paggasta ng pondo mula sa kaban
ng pamahalaan.
Itinuring ng DBM and DSWD na pinakamabuting
kagawaran sa hanay ng Account Management Team (AMT) – dahil nagampanang mabuti
ng kagawaran ang tama at itinakdang paggastos ng budget sa taong 2012.
Ayon sa DBM, ang ginawa ng DSWD sa tamang
paggastos ng pondo ay isang positibong indikasyon na makakamit ang itinakda ng
pamahalaan para tulungang mapanatili ang pagtaas ng antas ng ekonomiya.
Nakapagbigay ang DSWD ng tamang serbisyo sa sangkatauhan sa pamamagitan ng
tuloy-tuloy, mabilis at pinagsamang pakikipag-ugnayan sa DBM bilang tagamasid
at taga tustos na ahensiya.
Noong unang semestre ng 2012, ang DSWD ay isa sa
mga may pinakamababang nagastos na tanggapan dahil sa mahina ang ugnayan ng mga
tanggapang pinansyal, plano, pamimili at mga operasyon nito. Subalit, sa
pagtatatag ng AMT, isang plano ang inilagay upang tamang magamit ang P50
bilyong aktuwal na ipinalabas mula Agosto hanggang Disyembre 2012, at ito ay
mas higit kaysa P47 bilyon na target ng Development Budget Coordinating Council
(DBCC).
Ipinahayag din ni Sec. Soliman ang kanyang
pagbati sa mga empleyado ng DSWD sa kanilang ambag at sinabing ang karangalang
natamo ng DSWD ay dahil sa mga tulong sa pagpatupad ng mga gawain ng tanggapan
para mapabuti ang programa at mga proyekto sa pamamagitan ng pagsubaybay ng
pinansiyal at aktuwal na paggawa.
“Patuloy ang DSWD na magsumikap para gawin ang
pamahalaan na epektibong katulong ng sangkatauhan sa pamamagitan ng tamang
paggamit ng pondo ng pamahalaan at ipagpatuloy ang mga plano nito para
mapanatili ang pagpatupad ng katungkulan sa mga gawain ng pamahalaan,” sabi ni

kandidato
Ito ay isa sa mga nakikita nilang mapagkunan
nila ng pondo.
Nang mapulong ang Provincial Peace and Order
Council (PPOC) dito, ang pinuno ng 401st Infantry Brigade na si Col. Romeo Gan
sa pamamagitan ni Major Ryan Callanta ay nag ulat na tuwing eleksyon, tinatakot
ng mga CNN ang mga kandidato sa mga kaguluhan para makakolekta ng pera at ito
ay naobserbahan na kahit noon pang mga nakaraang eleksyon.
“Gusto naming ipaalam na ang CNN ay maraming
paraan sa pangongolekta nang tinatawag nilang revolutionary taxes. Ang minahan,
negosyong agrikultura at ilegal na pangtotroso ay ilan lamang sa mga negosyo
kung saan sila kumukuha ng kanilang pondo,” sabi ni Maj. Callanta.
