Trained typhoon victims in carpentry construct 2
houses

AGUSAN DEL SUR, Feb. 7 (PIA) -- Forty typhoon
victims who received training in carpentry, masonry, and electrical from the
Technical Education and Skills Authority (Tesda) and the provincial government
of Agusan del Sur did actual application of what they learned.
On February 6, the two houses constructed by the
trainees were turned over to beneficiaries namely Lilia Sendico, 74, and
Cristita Albior, 68, whose houses were totally wrecked by typhoon Pablo.
The two beneficiaries accepted their respective
new houses from Tesda Regional Director Florencio Sunico Jr. and Vice Gov.
Santiago Cane Jr. representing Gov. Adolph Edward Plaza.
“These two houses are concrete symbols that government,
both local and national, are working hard for the benefit of the people. But
this project does not end here. You have to take advantage of this
opportunities because no one can take away from you have learned and the skills

Competitiveness Council conducts survey on
renewal process for permits
BUTUAN CITY, Feb. 7 -- The National
Competitiveness Council (NCC) has recently launched its online survey to gauge
the satisfaction level of businessmen and entrepreneurs who have processed the
renewal of their businesses’ Business/Mayor’s Permit.
Everyone who have processed for the renewal of
the business/mayor’s permits for 2013, be it the owners, managers, staff or
personnel may access the online survey at www.competitive.org.ph. Respondents
may also go to any of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) office to
access the online survey.
The survey aims to cover local government units
(LGUs) that are implementing the Business Permits and Licensing System (BPLS)
streamlining program. This is to generate feedbacks from the businessmen and
entrepreneurs on the effectiveness of the streamlining initiatives implemented
by their LGU as well as identify areas for improvement to ensure a better and
faster processing of business/mayor’s permits.
The NCC, formerly the Public-Private Sector Task
Force on Philippine Competitiveness, is a public-private initiative aiming to
address the improvement of the country’s competitiveness from the bottom third
of competitiveness rankings to the top third by 2016.
The council is chaired by DTI Secretary Gregory
L. Domingo for the public sector and co-chaired by Mr. Guillermo M. Luz for the
private sector. Its regional counterpart, the Caraga Regional Competitiveness
Council, was created on October 3, 2012 by virtue of Regional Development
Council Resolution No. 37, series of 2012 and is chaired by the DTI-Caraga Regional
Director Brielgo O. Pagaran for the public sector and co-chaired by Mr. Omar
Joseph Andaya of the Butuan City Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
