AgNor celebrates 46th founding anniv on
Independence Day

BUTUAN CITY, June 11 (PIA) – The province of
Agusan del Norte will be celebrating its founding anniversary dubbed “46th Araw
ng Agusan del Norte” starting June 12 to 17.
The celebration of the province’ anniversary
coincides with the 115th National Independence Day with the theme “Padayon sa
Kahiusahan sa Malamboong Agusan del Norte.”
During the 115th National Independence Day
celebration, the province will also formally open its founding anniversary
celebration with a flag raising ceremony and wreath laying at the provincial
capitol grounds.
On the same day, the Provincial Launching of
National Year of Rice (NYR) 2013 and the Launching of “A Million Trees Programs
for Agusan del Norte will also be held together with other provincial offices
activities..
To culminate the celebration of the province is
the State of the Province Address (SOPA) of Governor Erlpe John M. Amante on
the 17th at two o’clock in the afternoon at the capitol covered court.
Other activities during the celebration include:
Agri-trade fair; viewing of booths and exhibits; Diskwento Caravan of the
Depatment of Trade and Industry (DTI); Governor’s Cup Basketball Open; Arboy
Day Tree Planting and Coastal Clean-Up; Provincial Employees’ Day and Awarding
of Employees; People’s Day; Free Out-Patient Department (OPD) Consultation;

115th Phil. Independence Anniversary celeb set
in Butuan

BUTUAN CITY, June 11 (PIA) -- The city
government employees will participate tomorrow in a motorcade as part of the
115th Philippine Independence Day celebration. Program will start at 6:00 a.m.
at the Guingona Park.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) Caraga will
lead the flag raising ceremony.
During the program, Vice Mayor Lawrence Lemuel
Fortun and Mayor Ferdinand Amante Jr. will deliver messages.
Rev. Ptr. Charlie Prior will lead the Freedom
Prayer while city officials will lead the releasing of Freedom Balloons.
The community singing of the song “Sariling
Bayan” will then follow to be led by Butuan City Police Office’ Band.
This year’s celebration is anchored on the theme
“Kalayaan 2013: Ambagan Tungo sa Malawakang Kaunlaran” (Independence Day 2013:

DOH-CHD Caraga intensifies campaign against
Tobacco

BUTUAN CITY, June 11 (PIA) – The Department of
Health – Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD) Caraga has intensified its
campaign against tobacco use, especially in public places and public vehicles.
Ten Filipinos die every hour, according to Delma
Legaspi, non-communicable disease coordinator of DOH-CHD Caraga. "Tobacco
can make you impotent, can cause depression and affect your hormones, among
others."
Legaspi also said that smoking during pregnancy
leads to: 1) Spontaneous Abortion; 2) Ectopic pregnancy; 3) Low-birth weight
babies; and 4) Long-term effects on growth and development of the child.
"Father's and other people smoking can affect the fetus.
“The department continues to strengthen advocacy
against Tobacco use by providing technical and logistic support to its partners
as well as providing the general public with Smoking Cessation Services. As a
result, some local government units in the region have adopted this endeavor as
evidenced by local acts promoting healthy environments and the prohibition of
Smoking in public places and public transportation vehicles,” said Legaspi.

Tandag LGU all set for 115th Phl Independence
Day celeb

TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur, June 11 (PIA) –
The city government of Tandag is all set to commemorate the nationwide 115th
Philippine Independence Day celebration on Wednesday, June 12.
This year’s theme is “Kalayaan 2013: Ambagan
Tungo sa Malawakang Kaunlaran.”
Activities will start at 6 a.m. with a
thanksgiving mass at the Sr. San Nicolas de Tolentino Cathedral.
The flag raising ceremony will then follow with
a short program including presentations by students of Jacinto P. Elpa National
High School, Tandag II District, and Saint Theresa College in this city.
The simple commemoration will be joined by
employees from the national government agencies, local government units,
