Tourism council to address problems in past
Naliyagan Festival celebrations
By David M. Suyao
AGUSAN DEL SUR, June 5 (PIA) -- The Provincial
Tourism Council (PTC) finalized Tuesday the program of activities for the
conduct of the annual Naliyagan Festival slated on June 12-17 this year.
The council also discussed the problems
experienced during the past Naliyagan Festivals.
In a meeting yesterday, Professor Theresa Baylon
of the Philippine Normal University recalled that an unpleasant incident
occured after the cheer dance competition two years ago.
“(It was) shame for us that the incident
happened,” Prof. Baylon said.
An eyewitness recalled that people jeered at the
cheer dance competition judges of the cheer dance competition contest as
plastic bottles went flying everywhere.
That incident alarmed the members of the PTC,
and asked the provincial government to look into the matter.
“Actually, the provincial government has given
us the assurance for a thorough investigation of the incident, and it was acted
upon. But I brought this issue to this forum so that we can find ways and means
that the same incident will never happen again,” Prof. Baylon said.
P/SInsp. Lambaco said he will present the issue
to the PNP provincial director and promised that they will formulate plans in
order to provide tight security measures for the celebration, being the lead
agency on safety and security during the celebration. Lambaco added that they
will conduct venue inspection all over the Naliyagan Cultural Center where all
activities of the Naliyagan Festival will take place.
The Naliyagan Festival is an annual celebration
that starts June 12 in time with the celebration of the Philippine Independence
Day where Agusan del Sur unveils its rich culture, natural wealth, skills,
talents and beauty. It is also a venue where various government agencies extend
social services they could offer to the Agusanons. The festival will end on
June 17, in time with the celebration of the province’s 46th founding
anniversary. (DMS/PIA-Agusan del Sur)
3rd Wave SRS implementers trained
BUTUAN CITY, June 5 (PIA) – The 3rd wave Skills
and Registry System (SRS) Hands-on Training finally pushes through with 13
Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Managers along with their SRS staff
from Caraga Region, recently.
A total of 55 managers and staff attended the
said training, here.
Lawyer Nolasco O. Discipulo, DOLE Mediator
Arbriter, gave a spiritual advice as he quoted from the Bible: “The rich
follows the rich; the poor follows the poor; the rich will never follow the
poor”. “To be effective in whatever you do, you have to follow the 4Ps
(Perseverance, Persistence, Prayer and Purity of Intensions) as the road map to
success, particularly in the implementation of the program thrust of the
department.”
The highlight of the activity was the actual
hands-on application of the SRS off-line database, initiated by the ISA II of
DOLE Regional Office, Ms. Iris C. Asis. Participants paid special attention as
the speaker delivered the comprehensive procedure of the system.
Ms. Gloria A. Varquez, TSSD Chief of DOLE Caraga
Region, thanked the participants in her closing remarks as the PESO Managers
committed to generate and submit registrants report every month. She further
stressed the importance of the SRS program as an instrument in bridging the gap
between the employer and the applicant. The data collated will also be utilized
as a tool for research in mitigating job mismatch in Caraga Region.

Tagalog news: Pang.
“Mahirap naman ako magsalita for an agency that
I don’t belong to (Mahirap naman ako magsalita para sa isang ahensya na hindi
naman ako kasali), ano. Ayoko silang i-preempt (pangunahan).
