PRC Agusan Norte-Butuan City bares accomplishments

BUTUAN CITY, July 19 (PIA) -- The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Agusan del Norte-Butuan City reported its accomplishments for the months of May and June 2013 during its regular meeting held Thursday, in one of the convention centers, here.

PRC Agusan del Norte-Butuan City Board of Directors Chairman Atty. Felixberto I. Guiritan presided the meeting while the different committee chairmen also presented their committee accomplishments for the period.

For the months of May and June, the Chapter’s Disaster Management Services was able to conduct three classes on Basic Disaster Management and 143 Mobilization Training Course with 64 graduates from the different different establishments, Response Team and PRC Chapter Volunteers.

On Blood Services, the Chapter was able to collect 1,255 units of blood including those required from blood letting activities. Blood donors are categorized according to their type of donation: walk-in has a total donors of 290; patient-directed – 310; replacement – 272; and from mass blood donation with 383 donors.

All the blood units collected were tested to five major blood transmissible diseases and all units nonreactive to all serologic tests were given to both private and government hospitals of Butuan City and Agusan del Norte.

The chapter was able to release a total of 1,270 units blood to hospitals and has served 1,270 units to clients who suffered from anemia and other blood-related disorders.

Other PRC Chapters also sent blood samples to the Chapter for the serological test (Hubbing System). Chapters from Gingoog City sent 142, Surigao City – 79, Surigao del Sur – 81, and Agusan del Sur – 383, having a total of 685 for the months of May and June alone.

Also, during the Chapter’s regular meeting, Safety Services committee chair reported the conduct of the following activities: three classes on Standard Tailored first Aid Training Course with 59 graduates; three classes on Basic Life healthcare Providers Training Course producing 59 graduates; two classes on Basic Water Safety and Rescue Training Course with 48 graduates; one class each on Automated External Defibrillator Training with 19 graduates, Rubber Boat Operation Training with 24 graduates, and Ambulance Operation Training Courses with 20 graduates.

An Organized Ambulance Operation and First Aid Station were also set up in 12 separate precincts of the cities of Butuan & Cabadbaran and nine municipalities of Agusan del Norte.

During the month of June, on the Community Health and Nursing Services, the Chapter continued the third phase implementation of the Community-Based Health and First Aid Project at the municipality of Carmen, Agusan del Norte in coordination with the Rural Health Unit through its Municipal Health Officer. Also, the Community Health Volunteers conducted health education and campaign activity on First Aid on their respective barangays with 65 numbers of people reached.

The Chapter was also able to conduct two batches of training on Youth Volunteer Orientation Course, Leadership Formation Course, and Basic Leadership.

For the period of two months, the Chapter was able to notify and counsel 38 blood donors who were found reactive to blood serological examination. (NCLM/PIA-Caraga)


Oil industry bureau to conduct multi-sectoral advocacy nationwide

BUTUAN CITY, July 19 (PIA) -- The Oil Industry Management Bureau (OIMB) of the Department of Energy (DOE) will be conducting a series of multi-sectoral advocacy in eight provinces nationwide.

The multi-sectoral advocacy is part of the effort of OIMB in disseminating awareness on downstream oil industry and its benefits to the general public. The sectoral approach will gather 50 provincial information officers and media practitioners and 50 LGU representatives from each province.

OIMB has set dates of implementation for the eight provinces with the following schedules:
1. Bulacan - July 20, 2013
2. Surigao - August 5-7, 2013
3. Saranggani - August 7-9, 2013
4. Misamis Oriental- August 11-13, 2013
5. Zamboanga Peninsula - September 4-6, 2013
6. Cebu - September 18-20, 2013
7. Batangas - October 7-9, 2013
8. Oriental Mindoro - October 9-11, 2013

It is expected that during the activity, the LGU representatives and stakeholders in the retail marketing business of Liquid Petroleum Products and Liquified Petroleum Gas will undergo hands-on demonstration in the calibration and sealing of a dispensing pump in a gasoline station.

Tagalog news: Ombudsman lumikha ng lupon para mag imbestiga sa 'eskandalo ng pork barrel'

AGUSAN DEL SUR, Hulyo 19 (PIA) -- Lumikha si Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales ng isang espesyal na lupon ng mga imbestigador para tignan ang paratang ng “ghost projects” na naiulat na tinutustusan ng Priority Assistance Fund (PDAF) ng ilang miyembro ng kongreso.

Binubuo ng anim kataong graft investigators, ang lupon ay magsagawa ng imbestigasyon at makipag-alyansa sa National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

Binuo ni Ombudsman Morales ang naturang fact-finding na imbestigasyon bilang tugon sa balitang naiulat ni whistleblower Benhur Luy na “pork barrel scam” na nagdadawit sa paggamit ng malalaking halaga ng PDAF ng mga pinaratangang “dummy” na mga non-government organizations (NGOs) para ayun pa, sa mga ghost projects sa paraan na sana ay pakana ni Janet Lim Napoles.

Sa ilalim ng Republic Act (RA) 6770 (Ombudsman Act of 1989), ang Ombudsman ay mayroong motu propio (sariling batas) o kahit walang naghain ng reklamo, ay may karapatang gumawa ng imbestigasyon sa “kahit anong kinaltas ng kahit sinong opisyal o empleyado, ng tanggapan o ahensiya, kung ang naturang pagkaltas ay makikitang illegal, hindi patas, hindi tama o hindi mabuti.

Ayon sa talaan ng Ombudsman, sina Napoles, Luy at iba pang opisyal ng NGO ay nahaharap sa reklamo ng “Fertilizer fund scam” na isa pang kaso na nakabinbin pa rin sa naturang tanggapan.

Ang mga ulat ay nagsasabi rin na ang Ombudsman ay nagsasagawa ng imbestigasyon sa larangan na nagdadawit ng katulad na mga anomaliya at iregularidad sa pagpatupad ng programang pangkabuhayan o proyekto na ang pundo ay mula sa PDAF ng tatlong senador at isang representante ng kamara.

Sa ilalim ng RA6770, Sec. 15, ang tanggapan ng Ombudsman ay may pangunahing hurisdiksiyon sa mga kasong nasa ilalaim ng Sandiganbayan at may otoridad na maghain ng kasong kriminalidad na may kaugnayan sa korapsiyon, kung ito ay nakitaan ng dahilan upang kasuhan ang isang matataas na opisyal ng pamahalaan.
