DOST-13 turns over equipment to PIA Caraga

BUTUAN CITY, Nov. 22 (PIA) - The Department of
Science and Technology (DOST) Caraga on Thursday has turned over a set of Canon
DSLR camera and a Toshiba Notebook computer unit to the Philippine Information
Agency (PIA) Caraga.
The multimedia equipment will be utilized in
providing information and documentation on DOST's Science and Technology (S and
T) services to the public.
The newly acquired modern equipment is another
product of PIA Caraga’s initiative to upgrade its existing operational devices.
It is likewise a remarkable outcome of the
strong partnership of both agencies under a specific arrangement.
“Our system of information distribution needs to
be on par with the developing technology to ensure that information gets
through to the public,” bared Northeastern Mindanao information cluster head
and PIA Caraga regional director Abner Caga.
DOST Caraga officer-in-charge Dominga Mallonga
said that she appreciated PIA Caraga for facilitating and supporting the
agency's S and T programs and projects.
“This is our way to reciprocate the efforts and
competence of PIA Caraga in channelling all S and T related activities
including the promotion of our current innovations,” she added.
Caga also said that "with the new equipment,
the team will be more equipped with every appropriate device to mobilize its
operations especially that our team will be repositioned in Tacloban City for
weeks to provide communication support to the government's relief efforts for

Surigao Norte GADCC joins commemoration of
18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women

SURIGAO CITY, Nov. 22 (PIA) - The Gender and
Development Coordinating Council (GADCC) through the Provincial Center for
Women's Training and Development will join the commemoration of the 18-Day
Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) with the theme, “End VAW Now! It’s
Our Duty” on November 25 to December 12, 2013.
The celebration will kick-off on November 24
with the hanging of streamer/tarpaulin, walk to end VAW at 5:30am from Gateway
Hotel to Provincial Sports Complex and followed by a Zumba dance.
On November 25, a simultaneous opening ceremony
and flag raising followed by a Monday Morning Sharing will be conducted at the
Provincial Convention Center and on November 30 and December 7, a radio information
campaign on VAWC will be hosted by Philippine Information Agency-Surigao del
Norte Information Center through “PIA Hour”
aired over RPN-DXKS.
A candle lighting will be held in celebration of
World Aids Day on December 1 at the Provincial Sports Complex and on December
2, a video presentation on STI/HIV Aids prevention and control will be held at
the Provincial Convention Center followed by a Poster and Slogan contest at the
MGB-13 Training Center and a Feature Story Writing contest (for inmates) at the
Surigao del Norte District Jail.
A Symposium on R.A 9262 (Violence Against Women
and Children) will be held on December 4 at the Cultural Center for Children,
Provincial Sports Complex, Surigao City and on December 11, a holy mass will be
conducted at the Surigao City Cathedral followed by a Malunggay and assorted
Vegetable Seeds Planting to be held at Barangay Punta Bilar, and a culminating

Agusan National High School joins DENR in NGP

BUTUAN CITY, Nov. 22 – Inspired by the National
Greening Program Program (NGP) being implemented by the national government,
the Agusan National High School (ANHS) Class Alumni 1990 have joined hands with
the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in planting about
1,500 mangrove propagules recently at an islet near Barangay Lumbocan, this
city.

CENRO-Nasipit, Agusan del Norte said the people are now being encouraged to
participate in the Reforestation program through the NGP as demonstrated by the
member of Class 1990 of the Agusan National High in Butuan City.
“We are very thankful for the support of a
private organization such as the ANHS Alumni Class 1990” Asugan said. He said
assigned people to monitor the progress of the newly-planted “Bakhaw”
propagules in the area to ensure a healthy growth.
The DENR officer has urged the people to protect
and preserve mangrove along the shores and not cut it off since they contribute
very much in protecting the community from the storm surge apart from serving

nagbigay ng USD200,000 para sa mga biktima ng bagyo

AGUSAN DEL SUR, Nob. 22 (PIA) - Ang Deputy Prime
Minister at Foreign Minister ng Thailand Surapong Tovichakchaikul ay nagsagawa
ng representasyon ng pamahalaan ng Royal Thai sa pamamagitan ng pagbigay ng
donasyon na nagkahalaga ng THB 6,000,000.00 o USD 200,000.00 para sa mga
biktima ng bagyong Yolanda (Haiyan) sa isang simpleng seremonya na isinagawa
noong Nobyembre 19 sa Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Ang Deputy Prime Minister ang siyang nag-abot ng
tseke na nagpatunay ng donasyon ng Thailand kay Philippine Ambassador Jocelyn
Batoon Garcia. Sinabi ng opisyal na ang actual na perang iniabot ay i-
turn-over ng Royal Thai Embassy na nasa Manila sa isa sa mga ahensiya ng
pamahalaang Pilipinas na siyang inatasang magtanggap.
Sa isang maikling talumpati, sinabi ni Deputy
Prime Minister Surapong na nakabagbag damdamin na makita ang mga kaibigan na
nagdurusa sa napakalaking trahedya. Dagdag pa niya na dahil parehong miyembro
ng pamilyang ASEAN, “maasahan ninyo ang aming suporta sa lahat ng antas.”
Hinikayat niya ang Pilipinas na “huwag mag-atubili na tawagan sila kung
kailangan pa ang kanilang tulong sa ginagawang rehabilitasyon. Nasabi rin niya
na ang unang bugso na tulong na ginawa ng pamahalaan ng Royal Thai ay nailipad
na sa Pilipinas sakay ng Royal Thai Airforce C-130 na eroplano.
Bilang tugon, pinasalamatan ni Ambassador
Batoon-Garcia si Deputy Prime Minister Surapong sa ibinigay na donasyon.
Pinasalamatan din niya ang kanilang mga kataastaasang ministro King Bhumibol
Adulyadej at Queen Sirikit at iba pang miyembro ng Royal Family, ng Royal Thai
na pamahalaan na pinamumunuan ni Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, lahat ng
mg pribadong kompaniya at mga pundasyon ng Thai, at lahat ng Thai sa kanilang
suporta sa mga biktima ng bagyo. Sinabi niya na namangha siya sa simpatiya na
pinakita ng mga Thai at ng international community para sa mga biktima ng
