RPN Surigao launches 'Boses Tinig P-Noy'

SURIGAO CITY, Oct. 30 (PIA) – The Radio
Philippines Network (RPN) DXKS-Surigao has launched recently a singing
competition dubbed “Boses Tinig P-Noy” to showcase talents from the different
places in the province held at the Gaisano Capital Mall, this city.
The Boses Tinig P-Noy is open for all ages in a
form of duet or trio in a capella hosted by roadshow hosts Center for Pop Coaches
Aileen Papin and John Nite.

during the launching said that the semi-final winners for duet and trio
categories will compete from among the winners of the 12 RPN branches stations
nationwide for the grand finale this December and will have the chance to win a
grand prize of P1 million pesos and other fabulous prizes.
Variety show host John Nite of GMA Network
revealed during the launching that Boses Tinig P-Noy is the first singing
competition in a capella launched in the Philippines and home grown talents
will have the chance to shine through a recording contract with Universal
Records and TV guesting with GMA network’s late night show, “Walang Tulugan.”
The Boses Tinig P-Noy is a nationwide search
spearheaded by RPN and Pilipinas Ngayon Na Production in cooperation with
Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), Solar Entertainment Corporation,
PolyEast Records-Universal Records, Center for Pop Music, Composite Technology,
Zoomanity Group, Alabang Muntinlupa City and 4Life with full support from the
City Government of Surigao, Provincial Government of Surigao del Norte, First

Congress gathers 800 Caraga Agri workers

BUTUAN CITY, Oct. 30 (PIA) - The Department of
Agriculture (DA) Caraga hosted the 6th Agricultural Extension Workers’ (AEWs)
Congress last on October 23, 2013 at the Balanghai Hotel and Convention Center,
this city with the theme, “Sustainable Food Systems for Food Security and
Nutrition.”
Around 800 AEWs attended the activity from all
over the region, representatives from DA line agencies and bureaus, farmers and
other stakeholders and some DA personnel.
The AEW Congress is an annual event being held
every month of October in timing of the World Food Day celebration. It is an
opportune time where every
extension worker gather and meet
with fellow technicians. Attending a
congress, will refresh each one and be updated with the latest agricultural
updates at the same time, to bond and strengthen camaraderie.
Dr. Virgilio Nery, SP Member-Committee on Health
of Butuan City representing Mayor Amante gave his welcome address. Standing
before the crowd, he felt very happy for the hosting of the 6th AEW Congress
and congratulated this year’s regional and national awardees which include
Butuan City as an outstanding organic agriculture implementer. He cited that it
had opened opportunities for further development of the region’s farming
industry.
Dr. Mechelle Acero Palma from the Remnant
Institute of Alternative Medicine based in Iloilo City was the Guest
Speaker. Her topic about Herb Utilization, Wellness and Nutrition aims
to end hunger and decrease morbidity or mortality among populace. She cited the importance of advocating about
backyard gardening, organic farming, reducing food waste and healthy food
choice including food preparation and
processing. She also explained the
importance of knowing the proper food intake to be healthy and to avoid illness
and diseases.
On the other hand, a topic “Journey of the
Heart”, was discussed by Rev. Charlie Prior of Butuan City. He briefly discussed about the Moral Recovery
Program of the government which he said is a movement which aims to mobilize
all Filipinos for nation-building through the practical exercise of personal
operative values in daily lives as citizens and to be awaken with the power of
these values in achieving individual and national goals. Rev. Prior said that
it is important to commit total submission and surrender to God and His
authority.
The AEWs were then given time to conduct their
business meeting as Mr. Marlon Medalla from Esperanza, Agusan del Sur presided.
After the meeting, RTD Dahino raffled off some items that included 10 drum
seeders, Collapsible Dryer and 3 Rice Cutters.
The awarding ceremony then followed featuring Gawad Saka awardees,
Rice Achievers, LGU-Organic Agriculture Awardees, Rural Woman , Corn Quality

550 farmers graduate from 'University on the
Air' on White Corn Production in Caraga

BUTUAN CITY, Oct. 30 (PIA) - “Translate what you
had learned on radio into more production in the field,” this was one of the
challenges mentioned by Governor Adolph
Edward Plaza to the farmer-students who graduated on the three month-University
on the Air on White Corn Production during the graduation rites held recently
in the province of Agusan del Sur .
Plaza said that given the right technology and
no matter how expert the resource person is, still, it would be futile if the
participants will not apply their learning in their respective field.
“Hinaut unta nga pinaagi sa inyong nadungog sa
radyo mosaka ang inyong abot” (I hope that your learning’s while listening to the radio would boost up your production),
he said.
Data from the Bureau of Agricultural Statistics
(BAS) indicated that Agusan del Sur for the past four years posted a 1.8 metric
tons annual average yield of white corn. This figure, however, is expected to
increase considering
Series of graduation ceremonies for participating
LGUs where being held in the region namely,
Agusan del Norte, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur and Agusan del Sur,
a total of 550 farmer-students
successfully completed the course, noteworthy to mention were the outstanding
farmer - students who received plaques of recognition and some prizes.
The UOA on White Corn Production was aired over
DXBC RMN for Butuan City and Agusan del Norte,
DXSP One FM for Surigao del Norte and Surigao City, DXVP Sure FM for Surigao del Sur and DXDA
Radyo Agusan for Agusan del Sur farmer-students anchored by LGU farmcasters
together with their respective corn coordinators and other resource persons who
have expertise on corn production.
The UOA on White Corn Production was jointly
undertaken by the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office Caraga thru
the Regional Agriculture and Fisheries Information Division (RAFID), Caraga
AgriPinoy Corn Program and the respective local government units.
The program is in support to the Food Staples
Sufficiency Program (FSSP) of the present administration aiming to promote
white corn for health and as one of the
food staples aside from rice.
Other identified food staples are banana (saba),

AGUSAN DEL SUR, Okt. 30 (PIA) - Nagpadala
kahapon ang Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) ng
mahigit-kumulang 24,000 pampamilyang food packs, 1,000 na lalagyan ng tubig
inumin na may lamang tubig, 217 materyal na ginagang tolda at siyam na kahong
kagamitan sa pagkumpuni na nagkahalaga ng P17.6 milyon na isinakay sa barko ng
Philippine Navy.
Ganun din ang nangyari sa pakipagbakasan sa
Air21, humigit kumulang 6,000 food packs
ang isinakay sa 2GO Forwarding Services para dalhin sa Lunsod ng
Tagbilaran kahapon.
Hanggang sa panahong ito, ang kabuuang tulong na
naibigay sa mga biktima ng lindol sa Central Visayas ay umabot na sa P37.75
milyon na nagmula sa pinagsamang pamaraan ng DSWD na may P24.82 milyon, lokal
na pamahalaan na may P2.97 milyon, at non-government organizations na may P9.95
milyon.
Sinabi ni DSWD Secretary Corazon Soliman na ang
pag impake ng mga tulong sa DSWD National Resource Operations Center (NROC) sa
Lunsod ng Pasay ay patuloy pa rin para maabot ang target na 50,000 food packs.
Sinabi ni Sec. Soliman na may kabuuang 40,170
food packs ang ngayon ay naihanda at binalot na ng mga volunteers hanggang alas
12:00 ng tanghali kahapon.
Pinasalamatan din ni Sec. Soliman and mga 1,011
na mga boluntaryo na pumunta sa NROC mula October 23 hanggang ngayon para
tumulong sa pag impake ng mga gamit. Sila ay binibigyan ng pagkain ng 7- eleven
sa pamagitan ng patuloy na pakipagbakasan sa pamamagitan ng convenience store
chain at ng DSWD.
Hanggang 12 ng tanghali ng araw na ito, 303
evacuation centers ay bukas sa Cebu at Bohol.
Ang Bohol ay may 280 na evacuation center na
siyang nagbibigay ng pansamantalang tirahan sa 18,387 pamilya o 94,624 ka tao.
Ang Cebu ay may 23 na evacuation centers na nagsisilbi sa 923 pamilya o 5,009
katao.
Humigit-kumulang 50,372 ka pamilya o 255, 201
katao na nagpapatuloy na tumira sa kanikanilang bahay ay binibigyan din ng
