Agusan Sur shares grief of typhoon victims in
Eastern Samar by giving relief assistance

AGUSAN DEL SUR, Dec. 12 (PIA) - Two weeks after
the landfall of super typhoon “Yolanda” in Central Visayas, an advance party
from this province headed by Vice Governor Santiago Cane Jr., together with
Sangguniang Panlalawigan members Gilbert Elorde, Edilberto Bastareche proceeded
to Borongan City, Eastern Samar in order to hand over relief goods to local
officials in the area as ordered by Gov. Adolph Edward Plaza.
The advance party arrived Borongan City at
around 11:00 in the evening of November 22, 2013, while the meeting with
Borongan City Mayor Maria Fe Abunda took place at 8:00 in the morning of the
following day.
Following the advance party of Vice Gov. Cane
were the members of the workforce called Operation Tabang Team composed of the
provincial government of Agusan del Sur (PGAS) employees, the Search and Rescue
Agusan del Sur (SARAS) and the Agusan del Sur Provincial Police Force that left
Agusan del Sur on November 22 but were accommodated to take the boat to Leyte
on November 25, 2013, arriving in Borongan City at 11:00 in the evening.
The following day, November 26, 2013,
distribution of relief goods to victims of Super typhoon Yolanda took place
with Borongan City Mayor Maria Fe Abunda and Agusan del Sur (AdS) team leader
Roberto Natividad, assisted by the volunteers accredited by Borongan City. Some
6,039 packs of rice (10 kls./ pack), drinking water, multi-vitamins and used
clothing were released. That very
moment, the construction of three units Rain Water Collector was started by the
member of the PGAS in Barangays Bugas, Sohotan and Maypangdan.
Balangiga City, Eastern Samar who is one of the
most ravaged by typhoon “Yolanda” also receive 2,069, drinking water,
multi-vitamins, assorted packages of goods and used clothing.
The total first batch relief goods that Agusan
del Sur has extended to Eastern Samar totaled to: 8,108 packs of rice (10
kilos/pack); 706 packs of used clothings; 422 packs of 143 assorted goods; 197
boxes of multi-vitamins; 70 containers of purified water; 157 boxes of purified
bottled water and three units of rain water collector.
The team has also started the construction of a
skeletal house for Marlon Capacite whose house was totally washed out, as model
house. In order for the local residents to start rebuilding their houses, the
team distributed six lumbers of assorted sizes to 23 families in Barangay
Bugas.

491 landless farmers, now landowners

AGUSAN DEL NORTE, Dec. 12 (PIA) - It is like an
early Christmas gift for 491 farmers in Jabonga, this province after they
received their certificate of land ownership award Tuesday, December 10.
Department of Agrarian Reform 13 Regional
Director Faisar Mambuay together with Provincial Agrarian Reform Officer Andre
Atega and Jabonga Former Mayor now Vice Mayor Glicerio Monton led the
distribution of titles covering 860.1465 hectares located in three barangays
namely Bangonay, Libas and Cuyago.
Monton thanked the DAR for the series of
distribution being conducted in their municipality, which “expectedly will
improve the lives of the farmers.”
Mambuay said that this distribution is a
commitment to the people. As of November 30, 2013, DAR Caraga already
accomplished 13, 541 hectares or 122% against its 11,088 hectares annual target
on land acquisition and distribution, contrary to allegations of slow
implementation.
For Danilo Dayong, 50, recipient of a 3-hectare area from Barangay Bangonay,
“there is never too late for a blessing like this,” thanking this government
effort. Dayong has been to farming since his childhood.
“From here, more benefits will come to our
beneficiaries like credit assistance, crop insurance and trainings,” Mambuay
