US State Secretary visits DSWD hub in Tacloban

TACLOBAN CITY, Dec. 18 (PIA) – US Secretary of
State John Kerry and his company took a short visit at the Department of Social
Welfare and Development (DSWD) hub which serves as drop-off point of all relief
goods in this city.
They were warmly received and welcomed by DSWD
Asec Vilma Cabrera, DSWD-8 officer-in-charge Nestor Ramos, and DSWD ARD for
Admin Virginia Edano who also briefed Sec. Kerry regarding the manner of relief
distribution.
Sec. Kerry appreciated the working force of DSWD
who have managed to work and spend hours repacking the family relief goods.
He was inquiring about the status of how these
items are being controlled in order to get assurance that its fairly
distributed to the recipients. Ramos informed him that they are frequently
conducting a close monitoring.
In a quick tour inside the warehouse, he was
also able to witness the actual operation of logistics cluster.
According to Cabrera the government is
continuously working for the provision of the basic necessities of the community
affected by the wide havoc.
Another humanitarian aid was pledged in the
amount of $25 million, announced during Sec. Kerry’s visit.
In a latest report, it was learned that DSWD
have a total distribution of 3,002,821 food and rice packs, 461,667 water,
88,169 canned goods, 229,644 high energy biscuits, 4,951 (25kg) rice packs to

Art Making Contest on Peace 2013 winners
announced

TANDAG CITY, Dec. 19 (PIA) – Krizia Marie
Inteligando of Special Science Elementary School (SSES) was proclaimed champion
in the Art making Contest on Peace 2013 held recently at Jacinto P. Elpa
National High School library, this city.
Inteligando received a cash prize amounting to
P3,000.00 with trophy. Harvee Talisay from Surigao del Sur SPED Center was
proclaimed second place and received a cash prize amounting to P2,000.00 with
trophy and followed by Michelle Pabuhot from Quintos Elementary School who was
adjudged as third place winner with P1,000.00 cash prize and trophy.
With the theme, “Building Peace in our
Communities,” the activity aims to educate the young audience on the importance
to call for a lasting peace in the country.
According to Tandag City Division Peace
Coordinator Freddie Maglasang, the said activity was participated by the grade
five and six pupils from selected private and public elementary schools in the
city.
Maglasag also said, the holding of the activity
in line with the observance of the Annual National Peace Consciousness Month or

Dengue cases in Caraga up by 16%

BUTUAN CITY, Dec. 18 (PIA) – A total of 2,610
dengue cases were admitted to different disease reporting units in Caraga
region for CY 2013, says Department of Health (DOH) Caraga.
DOH Caraga regional director Minerva P. Molon
said, there is an increase of 16 percent or 363 dengue cases recorded by the
department for the period of January 1 to December 7, this year.
According to Molon, ages of cases ranged from
less than one month to 89 years old.
Majority of the cases were males which is 56 percent and 41 percent
belonged to 1 to 10 years age group.
The following is the distribution of suspect

cases:

- Surigao City - 2
- Bayugan City - 2
The case fatality rate is 0.08 percent for the

Salubong sa mga magbabakasyong OFWs

AGUSAN DEL SUR, Dis. 19 (PIA) - Ang mga Overseas
Filipino Workers (OFW) na magsidatingan sa Disyembre 18, 19 at 23 para dito sa
bansa magdiriwang ng kapaskuhan kasama ang kanilang mga mahal sa buhay ay
masusurprisa pag sila ay nakapasok na sa mga paliparan ng bansa. Sila ay
malamang na mag-uuwi ng mga regalo o kaya’y mga malalaking premyo, kortisiya ng
Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)- Pamaskong Handog Para sa OFWs.
Ang Pamaskong Handog Para sa OFW ay isa sa
maraming nakabagbag damdaming gawain para sa OFW at kanilang pamilya na
ginagawa tuwing Disyembre. Isa sa mga nakakatawag pansin, ang modelong OFW
Family of the Year Award (MOFYA) ay natapos kamakailan lang kung saan dalawa sa
34 modelong OFW pamilya na nanalo regional level ay nanalo rin sa pambansang
libel. Ang OFWD family day, isang kasayahang ng mga laro, regalo, mga
makabuluhang nagawa at papremyong pera para sa mga pamilya ng OFW at
tradisiyonal na ginagawa sa lahat ng 17 rehiyon sa buong bansa ang nagsagawa ng
sobrang pagtitipid dahil sa kasalukuyang kalamidad. Kakaunti lamang ng OWWA’s
regional welfare na tanggapan ay nagpatuloy sa pagdiriwang pero may dalang
pagdamay sa mga sawing palad na biktima.
Sa kasalukuyan, ang Paskong Salubong ay
nananatili. Nang magdaos ng agahang press conference na ginanap noong Disyembre
13, 2013, si OWWA administrator Carmelita S. Dimson ay nag anunsiyo na ang
gawain para sa nakalulugod na pagtanggap ng mga nagsi bakasyon na OFWs na
darating para sa taong ito ay kagaya rin ng dati pero hindi kasing saya at
kalaki tulad ng mga nagdaang mga taon dahil ang pundo para sa naturang gawain
ay inlipat sa lohistika na ginamit para itulong mga biktima ng bagyo at lindol.
Siyam sa OFW ang darating sa umaga ng 18, 19 at
20, pinili ng random, ay mag-uuwi ng malalaking papremyo sa kanilang pagbalik

buhatan sa Agrikultura diin gimugna aron sa pag-edukar sa mga estudyante
