Boat trips, flights, classes in Caraga cancelled
due to TD Agaton

BUTUAN CITY, Jan. 17 (PIA) - Heavy rains and
strong winds forced the cancellation of boat trips, domestic flights and
classes in Caraga Region, after the low pressure area (LPA) intensified on
Friday morning into a Tropical Depression (TD) Agaton.
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in Surigao del
Norte Station has ordered the cancellation of the departures of inter-island
vessels to Siargao Island and Dinagat Islands due to TD Agaton.
The PCG has called off the departures of all
vessels plying these areas due to PAGASA’s Public Storm Signal warning that the
entire province will experience heavy rains and huge waves. “The public, boat
operators and boat captains are advised not to venture out into the sea to
avoid any untoward incident,” said PCG Station Commander Zenmond Duque.
As of 3:00 p.m., around 486 passengers and 35
vehicles were stranded in the ports of Lipata and Surigao City, said Dixon
Gonzales of the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) Port Management Office
Surigao.
Meanwhile, Cebu Pacific has also cancelled its
flights 5J873/874 Cebu-Surigao-Cebu, 5J787/788 Manila-Butuan-Manila, 5J791/792
Manila-Butuan-Manila, 5J223/224
Cebu-Butuan-Cebu today because of TD Agaton.
Early this morning, classes in all levels were
suspended in Surigao City, Agusan del Norte and Dinagat Islands due to
continuous rains.
Surigao del Norte Gov. Sol Matugas directed that
if rain continues, "suspension of classes in the mainland will be at the
discretion of the school principal especially in areas vulnerable to landslide
and flooding."
In its 10:30 a.m. bulletin, Friday, PAGASA said
TD Agaton was located 260 km southeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar and has maximum
sustained winds of 55 kph near the center. It is forecast to move southwest at
5 kph.
The tropical depression will bring moderate to
occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms over eastern and central Visayas,
the state weather said. It will also bring moderate to heavy rain (5-15mm/h)
within its 300-kilometer diameter.
According to PAGASA, the tropical depression is
forecast to be at 40 km east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur on Saturday morning,
13 km northeast of Davao City by Sunday morning, and be 45 km northeast of
General Santos City by Monday morning.
A public storm warning signal no. 1 was hoisted
in Surigao del Norte including Siargao Island, Surigao del Sur, Province of
Dinagat Islands, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Davao Oriental, and
Compostella Valley.

Surigao City dad inks deal with schools for
renewal of scholarship program

SURIGAO CITY, Jan 17 (PIA) - The city government
of Surigao and five colleges of the city signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA)
for the renewal of scholarship to the 242 city scholars.
The ceremonial signing was done recently between
city mayor Ernesto Matugas and Surigao State College of Technology (SSCT) President
Dr. Gloria Gemparo.
Under the MOA, the schools will accept all the
city scholars for one academic year.
Currently, there are 242 scholars enrolled in
the different schools, 202 students are in SSCT, 10 in Saint Paul University
Surigao, 18 in Northeastern Mindanao Colleges, three students in Surigao
Education Center and one in Saint Jude Thaddeus Institute of Technology.

AGUSAN DEL SUR, Enero 17 (PIA) - Nagpahayag ng
determinasyon ang pamahalaan na labanan ang human trafficking at inatasan ang
lahat ng ahensiya na may kaugnayan dito na patindihin ang pagsisikap para
matugunan ang isyu na ito.
“Gusto kong bigyan diin na ang ating pamahalaan
ay determinado na matigil ang human trafficking sa lahat ng antas at
manepistasyon sa pamamagitan ng pinagsamang pagkilos ng lahat ng ahensiya na
may kaugnayan dito sa pakipagtulungan ng ibang bansa,” sabi ni Presidential
Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma sa kanyang
pakipanayam sa mga mamamahayag noong Huwebes sa Malakanyang.
Sinabi ng ulat na ang Australia, Estados Unidos,
at United Kingdom ay nag-imbestiga ng pang-abuso ng kabataan dito sa Pilipinas.
Tinanong si Sec. Coloma kung ang palasyo ay
magbigay ng kautusan sa National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) at Philippine
National Police (PNP) na tingnang mabuti ang isyu ng pang-abuso sa kabataan,
sinabi niya niya na bago pa man inilabas ang ulat, ginagawa na ng pamahalaan
ang lahat para matugunan ang isyu na ito.
“Gusto kong ipaalam na bago pa lumabas ang ulat
na ito, ang pamahalaan ay gumagawa na ng paraan na kailangang gawin sa
pamamagitan ng pinagkaisang pagsisikap ng mga ahensiya na may kaugnayan dito sa
pamamagitan ng paggawa ng batas at sa pamamagitan ng administratibong paraan
para matigil na ang trafficking,” sabi ni Coloma na binigyang diin na ito ay
nasa mataas na prayoridad ng pamahalaan.
Binibigyan din ng pamahalaan ng pansin ang cyber
crimes na nangyayari dito sa bansa, sabi ni Sec. Coloma.
Isa sa mga nangungunang paraan ay ang paggawa ng
Cyber Crime Prevention Law na tumawag sa pansin ng Korte Suprema para klarohin.

pagpanday ug Cyber Crime Prevention Law nga gidala na ngadto sa Korte Suprema
