DSWD-Caraga continues to provide social services
to poor families

BUTUAN CITY, May 22 (PIA) – In her interview
over Power FM– Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Caraga’s radio station here,
regional director Minda Brigoli of the Department of Social Welfare and
Development (DSWD) Caraga assured that the department will continue to provide
its programs and social services to the poor families.
Brigoli bared that the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa
Kahirapan - Comprehensive Integrated Delivery of Social Service (KALAHI-CIDSS)
is a community-driven development project implemented by DSWD. "With this
program, communities and their local government units are trained to choose,
design and implement sub-projects that address their most pressing need. In
Mindanao, there are only two pilot areas for this program namely, Butuan City
and Cagayan de Oro City," she said.
Brigoli also disclosed that the "Listahanan
or Talaan ng Pamilyang Nangangailangan" provides a database of poor
families in the country to national government agencies and other stakeholders
in order to identify potential beneficiaries of their respective projects.
"In line with our 'Listahanan' database,
we're coming up with the second round of household assessments which will
identify the poor and the near-poor families deserving of assistance from the
social protection programs and services of DSWD. We can assure you that we
already have a system or scheme that we can verify, validate the status of the
beneficiaries," she remarked.
Furthermore, Brigoli announced that the
department’s Self-Employment Assistance - Kaunlaran (SEA-K), which is a
capability building program of the agency and local government units aims to
enhance the socio-economic skills of poor families through the organization of
community-based associations for entrepreneurial devt. "We have been
implementing this region-wide, in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment
(DOLE), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), and
Department of Agriculture (DA), among other government agencies and we are
gaining positive results in this program," she added.
It was also learned that the loanable amount for
qualified beneficiaries under SEA-K is minimum of P5,000 and maximum of P25,000
per individual member depending on the project being proposed.
Meanwhile, Brigoli also revealed that DSWD Sec.
Corazon "Dinky" Soliman is expected to visit Butuan City sometime in
June 2014 to grace the activity of the National Federation of Day Care Workers.

25 triathletes compete in 2014 Dinagat Islands
Triathlon Challenge

DINAGAT ISLANDS, May 22 (PIA) – A total of 25
triathletes from all over the country joined the 2nd Dinagat Islands Triathlon
Challenge 2014 held on May 18, 2014 at San Jose town, this province.
Most of the 25 triathletes who competed for this
year’s Triathlon Challenge from 1.5Km. swimming, 40Km. cycling and 10km running
are already champions of the different
triathlon events here in the country.
Dinagat Islands Vice Governor Benglen B. Ecleo,
in his message during the welcome ceremony, expressed his gratitude to the
participants for joining the significant event and encouraged them to enjoy and
explore the man-made natural attractions and wonders of Dinagat Islands.
“I hope that you will share your momentum and
experiences in staying to our mystical and enchanting province and tell the
entire world that Dinagat Islands is a beautiful place to visit,” Ecleo said.
The winners for the men category are the
following: 1st place - Saim Jonard form General Santos City; 2nd place - Brain
Borling from Cagayan de Oro City; and 3rd place - Jefferson Tabacon also from
Cagayan de Oro City.
For the women category: 1st place - Noemi Andrea
Galeos; 2nd place - Jenefer Paloma; and 3rd place - Dorina Ararao.
This year’s winner received P25,000 for the
first prize, P15,000 for the second prize, P10,000 for the third prize and

Brigada Eskwela continues to go well in SurSur

TANDAG CITY, May 22 (PIA) – The conduct of
Brigada Eskwela has been going well in Surigao del Sur according to the
Department of Education (DepEd) Division Office.
Schools Division Superintendent Teofila Cabatuan
said that not a single complaint has ever been received by her office yet.
A week before the start of the weeklong
activity, she said that school heads provincewide have already been reminded of
their respective tasks in order to guide accordingly.
Brigada Eskwela is an annual undertaking
designed to prepare all public elementary and secondary schools for the opening
of classes with the help and support of all stakeholders in the concerned
community.
This school year, the event has started on May

gipahigayon nga Monday Flag Raising Ceremony bag-ohay pa lamang nga gipahigayon
diha na sa may City Hall grounds.
Gibutyag ni Dr. Arriba nga hangtod karon padayon
pa gihapon ang ilang pag-pangbakuna lakip na pag- monitor sa mga kabataan nag
edad 5 anyos paubos sulod ning syudad ug probinsya aron mapalapdan pa ang maong
kampanya batok tigdas.

kabataan nga nagpakita og sintomas sa maong sakit ang nagpositibo niini basi na
sa resulta sa laboratory test, samtang usa usab ka 9 pa lamang ka bulan nga
batang babaye ang namatay sa maong sakit.

Health Office padayon nga naga- monitor sa mga measles cases sa mga hospital
lakip na sa upat ka mga district centers dinhi sa syudad.
Samtang ang mga miyembro usab sa Barangay Health
Workers (BHW) ang kanunay usab naga- monitor ug nag house to house sa kada
barangay aron mahibal-an kon aduna bay mga residente nga nakitaan og mga
sintomas sa tigdas sama sa hilanat, rashes, ubo, sip-on, pamula ug pagluha-
