Brgy. Nutrition scholar honorarium increases
BUTUAN CITY, June 29 (PIA) - Barangay Nutrition
Scholars (BNSs) in the province of Agusan del Norte will soon be receiving P500
pesos each per month as their honorarium granted by the provincial government.
This is almost 70 percent increase from the
current monthly honorarium of P300 pesos. The said increase in honorarium is
the provincial government’s counterpart to the municipalities and city.
In line with PD 1569, “An Act Strengthening the
Barangay Nutrition Program by Providing for a Barangay Nutrition Scholar in
Every Barangay, Providing Funds Therefore, and for Other Purposes,” the
province has been allocating P300/month per BNS since 2009 up to the present as
its counterpart for their honorarium.
In support with the various national programs
under the said presidential proclamation, the provincial government recognizes
the valuable contribution of the BNSs in the delivery of basic health and
nutrition services and other related services in the province such as community
health, backyard food production, environmental sanitation, culture,
supplemental feeding, and family planning especially in far-flung barangays.
Aware of the numerous functions of the BNSs in
the barangays province-wide, the provincial officials believe that it is high
time to increase their honorarium to boost their morale since they are
rendering their services voluntarily and to capacitate them financially to meet
the rising cost of the standard of living.
The said increase has been approved through
Provincial Ordinance No. 353-2014, authored by Provincial Board Member
Elizabeth Marie R. Calo during the 45th Regular Session of the Sangguniang
Panlalawigan. (LGU-Agusan del Norte/PIA-Agusan del Norte)
