PCWC set activities for international children’s
month celebration on October

(PIA) - The Provincial Council for the Welfare of Children (PCWC) on Tuesday
convened in order to discuss and set activities for the month-long celebration
of the International Children’s Month with the theme “Bata, Kasali ka! Ikaw ay
Mahalaga,” on October.
As agreed by the council, hanging of streamers
will start before the first day of October, 2014 as the first salvo of
information dissemination of the celebration. On the first Monday, October 6,
simultaneous fun walk will open the day of the 13 municipalities and the lone
city provincewide, where members of the PCWC will join the municipality of San
Francisco, bringing along streamers bearing the theme of the celebration and
the various responsibilities of children. Starting the same day also, children
from different high schools provincewide will start to host the convocation
during the Monday flag raising ceremony of the provincial provincial government
at the Naliyagan Plaza Cultural Center and will take turn every Monday
thereafter for the whole month of October.
As highlight of the celebration and as mandated
by the Children’s Code of Agusan del Sur, the 11th Children’s Congress will
start on October 18 and will end up October 19 in the evening after the
election of young elected provincial officials such as child Governor, Vice
Governor, members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan and other elected officials.
Appointment of chiefs of offices will also take place except that of the the
PNP/ security personnel, doctors, nurses, firemen and other life-saving
positions. The following day, the third Monday of October, the young elected
officials will take the posts of the official elected officials of the
provincial government including the posts of the different chiefs of offices.
At the end of their duties for the day, the
young provincial officials will receive the salary equivalent to the one day
salary of the posts they occupied.

(Monday, October 20, 2014) Gov. Adolph Edward Plaza will deliver his State of
the Children’s Report during the flag raising ceremony, in front of the
children, employees and officials of Agusan del Sur and other invited guests to
portray children’s status and participation in building a strong and productive

SurSur launches kids activity center &
children’s library

SURIGAO DEL SUR, Aug. 27 (PIA) – The provincial
government here launched recently its Kids Activity Center and Children's Library
in time with the 11th founding anniversary celebration of the Surigao del Sur -
Public Library and Research Center (SDS-PLRC).
"The new center will not only be a Kid’s
Activity Center but as a 'Child Minding Center' as well, adhering to Republic
Act 8980 also known as 'Promulgating a Comprehensive Policy and the National
System for Early Childhood Care and Development,'" said head librarian
Reynilda Cosare.
The center can also accommodate children whose
mothers work at the Provincial Capitol, Cosare said.
Selected elementary pupils from Tandag
Elementary School were the first to experience the series of activities
prepared during the opening day.
Cosare said they have scheduled four sessions
for the three-day celebration exclusively for Grades II to VI pupils in the
following schools: Tandag Central Elementary School, Bongtud Elementary School,
Special Science Elementary School, and Tandag Pilot Elementary School.
She then recalled that the Provincial Public
Library and Researched Center was established on August 19, 2003 thru an
Ordinance No. 24-2003 authored by former SP Member Lolito Cuartero, Jr.
"The Public Library was started with handbooks, hand-outs and folders in
one shelve," she said.
Cosare also said that the Tanggapan ng
Sangguniang Panlalawigan - Public Library and Research Center was duly
affiliated by the National Library of the Philippines on September 1, 2011 thru
a memorandum of agreement between the provincial governor and the director of

DPWH allots P1.5B to complete all main roads in
SurSur by 2016

TANDAG CITY, Aug. 27 (PIA) – All main roads in
Surigao del Sur are set to be completed by 2016, according to Governor Johnny
Pimentel.
“Next year, under the DPWH General
Appropriations Act (GAA) budget, Surigao del Sur will receive P1.5 billion of
projects,” which Pimentel also tagged as “the biggest allocation that will be
released for the province. . .” so far.
He announced that this amount, as relayed to him
by DPWH Undersecretary Romeo Momo, will have to be divided between the two
districts here with P750 million apiece.
Gov. Pimentel stressed that the said budget
includes the concreting of roads leading to tourist sites like the Enchanted
River-P140 million (Hinatuan); Tinuy-an Falls-P100 million (Bislig City; and,
Britannia Islands-P50 million (San Agustin).
As additional information, he also mentioned
that Surigao del Sur-Surigao del Norte boundary road has already been allocated
with P63M for the remaining portion of 1.9 kilometer stretch.
Besides, the four kilometer stretch left for
concreting in Bislig-Trento road section (from Surigao del Sur to Agusan del
Sur) has gotten another allocation of P100 million, he added.
All roads “from Surigao del Norte boundary up to
Agusan del Sur boundary and Davao Oriental,” will be completed by 2016,
Pimentel assured.

DENR gives 28 land titles in Siargao

BUTUAN CITY, Aug. 27 (PIA) - The Department of
Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 13 officials headed by regional
director Nonito M. Tamayo distributed 28 land titles under Free Patents to
landless families in Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte during a ceremony held
at Kapitolyo Nan Siargao in Dapa recently.
“This is a continuing program under the 'Handog
Titulo ng Pangulo' Program of the Aquino Administration for the landless people
to own the lands they have been tilling for several years,” Tamayo said.
The 28 land titles which covered a total land
area of 59,884 hectares were given to the beneficiaries by Governor Sol F.
Matugas together with Congressman Francisco F. Matugas. They were assisted by
Director Tamayo, regional technical director of Land Management Services Atty.
Paquito R. Rosal, CENRO Iniego S. Collantes Jr., OIC PENR Officer Zaldy Perater
and the OIC of the Register of Deeds Emily B. Quines.
In her message, Governor Matugas reminded the beneficiaries
to treasure the land title document which are practical solutions in fighting
poverty.
“The lands that you are tilling now can be
enriched with rice crops and other agricultural products to bring in additional
income to every family,” Governor Matugas said. She said “A properly
managed-land is a good security that can improve the standard of living of a

PENRO Agusan Norte inaugurates new building

BUTUAN CITY, Aug. 27 (PIA) – The Provincial
Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) of Agusan del Norte has
inaugurated its new three-storey office building in Barangay Tiniwisan, on
August 18, 2014 here as part of the continuing effort to improve the services
to the people.
“Employees will now have a better working
atmosphere thus improve its services to the people. This has been made possible
through the support of secretary Ramon J.P. Paje and regional director Nonito
M. Tamayo,” PENRO Paterno Olivera said.
The three-floor building will provide a more
comfortable workplace for the employees and the clients. The penthouse of the
building on the other hand, will be used as a multi-function center for events
like physical fitness and seminars.
The activity was attended by more or less 200
people including Technical Director Ronilo Salac who represented regional
director Nonito M. Tamayo. Also present were CENRO of Tubay, Vince Estopito,
CENRO Norman Asugan of Nasipit, stakeholders and DENR personnel.

Dinagat Islands to hold 3-day cataract operation

SAN JOSE, Dinagat Islands, Aug. 27 (PIA) - The
Provincial Health Office and the Provincial Social Welfare and Development
Office of this province will lead the three-day provincewide cataract operation
on August 28 to 30, 2014 to be held at Loreto District Hospital, this province.
The said cataract operation will be assisted by
the Loving Presence Foundation, Brotherhood Operation for Sight and Smile, and
Deseret Foundation.
According to Health Education and Promotion
Officer Cherilyn Benitez, the healthcare activity will be granted to all the
elderlies of the province.
"The Rural Health Units have already
conducted surveys and masterlisting in their respective areas. As of this time,
