CCTV cameras installed in Butuan brgy public
market
By Noel B. Najarro
BUTUAN CITY, Oct. 19 (PIA) - The public market
of Barangay Libertad, the largest of the 86
barangays in this city, is now equipped with closed circuit television
cameras (CCTV).
“This will help deter offenders do crimes such
as stealing, pick pocketing, snatching, swindling and other forms of
clandestine activities in the area and may boost law enforcement and
strengthening of evidences when crimes happen and be reported to the
authorities,” said Brgy. Libertad chairperson Vincent Rizal C. Rosario in an
interview.
Rosario mentioned about the development during
his “State of the Barangay Address,” (SOBA) in the recent Barangay General
Assembly held at the village covered court. According to him that four CCTV
cameras are strategically placed at the corners of the marketplace where the
large area of the market premises and its vicinity can be seen on screen. This
has been made possible by a donation from a service provider and may serve as
the “eye” of the place, ready to be utilized for any assistance necessary to
law enforcement, deterrence to crime or identification of an offender or
suspect.
Rosario also said that the barangay council had
discussed during one of their sessions to acquire additional CCTV cameras to be
in placed near the Sto. Nino Shrine and the other conspicuous places where
people use to converge and traffic most likely to get heavy especially during
peak hours. The official said they now have the monitors in placed. “What we
need by now are just the cameras and the wirings,” Rosario said.
Capt. Rosario also said that there was a
proposal from the barangay council to renovate the barangay public market to
become a two storey edifice. The upper storey will become the section for the
dry goods while the lower storey may become the wet market according to
Rosario.
According to him, the present market was
constructed during the time when the residents of the barangay were still few.
Now, it can hardly accommodate conveniently the present volume of vendors or
marketers and consumers. (PNA/PIA-Caraga)
