BUTUAN CITY, May 1 (PIA) – The Department of Labor
and Employment (DOLE) Caraga is once again spearheading this year’s 114th Labor
Day celebration with various activities regionwide.
The Philippines’ annual Labor Day celebration
commemorates the advocacy of Union Obrera Democratica de Filipinas on rights of
labor force during the American occupation. Today, Labor Day is not only
celebrated through parades, job fairs, bazaars and the likes, but also with
rallies and demonstrations of the labor sector.
On Sunday, the celebration started with a foot
parade from Guingona Park to the main venue at Robinsons Place Butuan. Part of
the festivity was a thanksgiving mass and a short program that included the
reading of the message of the Honorable Secretary of DOLE Rosalinda
Dimapilis-Baldoz and the launching of the Employee of the Year Award.
A job fair was conducted by DOLE Agusan del Norte
province at Robinsons Place Butuan. A total of 20 local employers and five
overseas employers participated with 2,684 and 5,290 vacancies, respectively.
Simultaneously, the field offices in Agusan del
Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur and Province of Dinagat Islands also
conducted activities for the Labor Day celebration with the informal sector
through orientation on the different programs and services of DOLE, among
others.
The DOLE regional office hopes to highlight the
reality that the country’s workers continues to prove to be partners of the
government for economic development and positive social changes.
