AgSur LGU sets week-long activities for 24th
Naliyagan Festival

PROSPERIDAD, Agusan del Sur, June 13 (PIA) – The
provincial government here has lined-up activities for this year’s Naliyagan
Festival celebration from June 14-17, 2016.
The grand opening was successfully held on Sunday,
June 12, 2016 with a Thanksgiving Mass, opening program, Kalayaan Jobs Fair,
Gov. Eddiebong Plaza Men’s Tennis Cup, and Naliyagan Cultural Show, among
others.
On day-2 (June 13), the provincial government will
highlight the following activities: 5th Gov. Eddiebong Plaza Motocross
Competition 2016 at D.O Plaza Government Center Grounds; Naliyagan Mano-A-Mano
(Amateur) at Naliyagan Cultural Center Ground; Bai Naliyagan 2016 (Talent
Showdown).
The 8th Naliyagan Bauto Race is one of the
highlights on day-3 (June 14) along with the 2nd BMX Bridge Crossing Challenge,
and Barangayan sa Naliyagan/Barangay Officials Night.
The 1st Gov. Eddiebong Plaza Fire-lympics will be
held on the 4th day (June 15) along with other activities like the Naliyagan
Agri-lympics, Agusan Delicacies Showcase, and Naliyagan Open Battle of the
Bands.
On Day-5 (June 16), the activities that will be
conducted are as follows: Naliyagan Street Dancing Competition (Progressive
Dancing); and Bai Naliyagan (Pageant Night).
As culminating activity of said celebration, the
provincial government will be holding the Tribute to Naliyagan 2016
Stakeholders and Tribute to Performing Agusanons. On this day, Gov. Adolph
Edward “Eddiebong” Plaza will also deliver his State of the Province Address
(SOPA) at the Naliyagan Cultural Center Main Stage in Patin-ay, this town.
Also, for the weeklong celebration, the following
activities will also be conducted during night time: Naliyagan Acoustics
featuring Davao Acoustics Band; Coca-Cola Taste the Feeling “Concert ng Bayan
sa Naliyagan” featuring Daybreak Band and Marsh Band; Natures Spring Party Jam
featuring Playsix Band; and SMB Ito ang Beer! “Rocklayan sa Naliyagan”

PROSPERIDAD, Agusan del Sur, June 13 (PIA) – “With
the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Philippine Army, we have ensured
peace and security for this year’s Naliyagan Festival from June 12-17, 2016.”
This was the statement of Dr. Manuel Murillo
Rosaut Jr, provincial tourism council chair and president of Naliyagan
Foundation in Agusan del Sur during the 49th Founding Anniversary of the
province and grand opening of the 24th Naliyagan Festival on Sunday.
According to Agusan del Sur First District
Representative Maria Valentina Plaza, the Naliyagan Festival serves as an
opportunity for all of the Agusanons to work together, share common vision with
the leaders and elders of the community. With this, she further stressed that
the Agusanons can set goals and objectives together that would lead towards
progress, growth and increase the competitiveness of the community in today's
national and world settings.
“I am inviting our Caraganon people to come visit Agusan
del Sur and witness and participate in the lined-up activities for our
Naliyagan Festival. Security plan by our local authorities are strictly
implemented to ensure safety of our people and guests,” stressed Cong. Plaza.
Second District Representative Evelyn Mellana also
expressed her hopes that Agusanons will be motivated to deepen the community
bonds needed in pushing Agusan del Sur further onto the road of progress.
Meanwhile, on behalf of provincial governor Adolph
Edward Plaza, vice governor Santiago Cane, Jr. said that the local government
remains steadfast in pursuing progress and improvement of system, and to
continue moving forward through unified efforts. He also encouraged all
Agusanons to actively pariticipate in the lined-up activities from June 12-17,
2016.
The word “Naliyagan” means the chosen one, the
most loved one. The Naliyagan Festival is dedicated to the natives of Agusan
del Sur, as the Provincial Government’s Tribute for their unfaltering support
and loyalty while on the part of the natives, the day for them means to
show-off their beautiful cultural heritage thru songs and dances, their best
products and best players of the different ethnic games like rowing contest,
marathon contest, hunting contest, hunting contest, spear throwing, cock derby,
beauty pageant for the search for Bae Naliyagan as Miss Agusan del Sur, and to
showcase their novelty products which they intricately handmade as their
cottage industry.
The Naliyagan theme "Productivity and Unity
in Diversity" is focused on productivity of people in terms of agriculture
which will in turn eradicate, if not, to improve the state of poverty in the

Caraganons celebrate 118th Philippine Independence

BUTUAN CITY, June 13 (PIA) – Caraganons
successfully celebrated the 118th Philippine Independence Day on Sunday in the
different provinces of the region.
In the province of Agusan del Norte, the
provincial government celebrated it thru a flag raising at the provincial
capitol grounds headed by its governor Ma. Angelica Rosedell M. Amante-Matba
with the provincial employees and officials.
Employees of government agencies, representatives
from private sector, academe, media, and local officials also gathered at 6:00
a.m. at the Guingona Park, Butuan City to celebrate Independence Day. The
Philippine National Police (PNP) and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP)
personnel and officials led the flag raising ceremony. Short program and
cultural performances were also witnessed by the Butuanons.
In the province of Agusan del Sur, said
celebration started with a thanksgiving mass and followed with the
wreath-laying activity at Dr. Jose Rizal’s monument at the Naliyagan Cultural
Center in Patin-ay, Prosperidad. 401st Brigade Commander Col. Cristobal
Zaragoza then led the 21 gun salute with the
presence of local officials.
With fervent prayers to sustain the progress and
in seeking for lasting peace and security of the province of Agusan del Sur, an
ecumenical prayer among religious leaders was also offered during Independence
Day program.
In Surigao City, local officials, employees of
local government unit and regional offices, students and partner stakeholders
convened at the city hall compound for the flag raising ceremony and short
program. Vice Mayor Danilo Menor encouraged everyone to continue “the legacy of
freedom that our heroes have fought for us century ago.”
In Tandag City, a holy mass was conducted early
morning in San Nicolas de Tolentino Cathedral as part of the 118th Independence
Day celebration followed by a motorcade throughout the major city streets.
Other highlights include, a ceremonial flag raising and symbolic release of
balloons in front of the Department of Education (DepEd) Tandag City Division
Office.
The Independence Day celebration was also in time
with big celebrations in Caraga region. It was also the grand opening of Sadow
Festival in Agusan del Norte as part of its 49th Founding Anniversary;
Naliyagan Festival in Agusan del Sur as part of its 49th Founding Anniversary;
and 54th Araw ng San Miguel in Surigao del Sur.
Independence Day is an annual national holiday in
the Philippines observed on June 12, commemorating the Philippine Declaration
of Independence from Spain on June 12, 1898. Since 1962, it has been the
country's National Day.

SurSur commemorates 118th Philippine Independence

TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur, June 13 (PIA) - The
entire province of Surigao del Sur joined in the commemoration of the 118th
Independence Day on Sunday, June 12. This year's activity carries the theme
“Kalayaan 2016: Pagkakaisa, Pagambag at Pagsulong.”
Led by the Department of Education (DepEd) Tandag
City Division in partnership with the city government of Tandag, the
celebration was split into four parts: the holy mass; motorcade for public
awareness; ceremonial flag raising & symbolic release of balloons; and the
programme proper held at the city gymnasium.
DepEd Tandag City Division Supt. Dr. Gregoria Su
narrated the story and background of the independence declaration.
According to Su, the grand occasion was
highlighted with the playing of the Philippine National Anthem for the first
time, the unveiling of the national flag and the reading of the proclamation of
independence at the ancestral home of General Emilio Aguinaldo in Cavite, 118
years ago. “The Philippine National Anthem embodies the struggles of the
Filipino people in search for freedom," Su said.
Meanwhile, a similar activity was also conducted
in Bislig City, municipalities of Bayabas, Cantilan and San Miguel.

PRO 13 gears up for opening of school classes

BUTUAN CITY, June 13 (PIA) - The Police Regional
Office (PRO) 13 is stepping up its security operations for the opening of
classes with the deployment of police personnel in both public and private
schools in the region.
It was learned that PRO 13 has deployed police
personnel from 77 police stations including police trainees to 1,478 public
schools and private learning institutions to secure the students in today’s
first day of school.
PRO 13 officials have also coordinated with the
local government units and school officials to discuss security measures and
further strengthen the fight against all forms of criminality.

emergency hotlines and help desks to respond to the needs and queries of the
public during the school opening.

DTI releases new SRP
SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte, June 13 (PIA) –
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Consumer Protection Advocacy Bureau
(CPAB) under the Consumer Protection Group has released two Suggested Retail
Prices (SRPs) guides for basic necessities and prime commodities and for school
supplies as of April 19, 2016 and May 17, 2016, respectively.
The Suggested Retail Price (SRP) is the selling
price suggested by the manufacturer of a product.
Small and Large business can sell merchandise at
prices below the SRP, but selling at higher price is prohibited.The intention
of SRP is to help standardized prices among locations.
The DTI price monitoring Activity which is
conducted monthly to major retail establishments is one way of ensuring that
retailers if products listed in SRPs shall follow the guides in their pricing.
Hence, they are always provided with updated SRPs regularly.

P1M for AgNor barangay relocation site OK'd

BUTUAN CITY, June 13 (PIA) - The provincial government
of Agusan del Norte is set to purchase a parcel of an agricultural land in
Barangay Cahayagan, Carmen, Agusan del Norte with an area of 10,369 square
meters amounting to P1,000,000.00 for the relocation site of said barangay.
Barangay Cahayagan has not enough funds for the
purchase of the said relocation sight, thus, the Barangay Council headed by
Punong Barangay Isagani A. Pajardo requested for financial assistance from the
province. As part of the priority programs of the provincial government, the
province addressed the needs of the said barangay for the improvement of the
barangay and the lives of the constituents.
The Provincial Appraisal Committee already
appraised the market value of the property and considering that the price is
fair and reasonable, which is lower than the actual sale value in the locality,
the province agreed to finalize the sale.
To immediately acquire the said relocation site,
the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Agusan del Norte recently authorized Provincial
Governor Ma. Angelica Rosedell M. Amante-Matba to sign the Deed of Absolute
Sale in behalf of the province with the owner of the said land Mr. Alberto
Villahermosa through Sanggunian Resolution No. 088-2016, authored by Vice
