Child killed in Surigao Norte NPA attack

BUTUAN CITY, June 25 (PIA) – A seven-year old girl
died after New Peoples Army (NPA) bandit group attacked a community in Barangay
Payapag, Bacuag, Surigao del Norte in the evening of June 23, 2016.
The child identified as Cristel Mae Aguilar was
sleeping on her bed when hit by a bullet from the said bandit group. The Peace
and Development Team (PDT) of the 30th Infantry Battalion (30IB) who was there
for the conduct of peace and development activities managed to defend the
community from the attack and prompted the communist bandit group to withdraw
towards a mountainous area of the incident.
Immediately after the bandit group fled away, the
PDT has searched and secured the locality and discovered several empty
cartridge shells of AK-47 and M16 A1 assault rifles from the bandit group’s
possession.
They also saw the parents of the victim crying for
help to deliver their child to the hospital. The PDT urgently extended
necessary assistance to transport the victim to the nearest hospital and
subsequently reported the matter to the law enforcement.
Under Republic Act (R.A) 9851 or the act defining
and penalizing crimes against international humanitarian law, genocide and
other crimes against humanity; an attack directed against any civilian
population is a crime against humanity and is punishable by law.
Lieutenant Colonel Rico Amaro, commander of the
30IB, 4th Infantry Division, Philippine Army stationed in Barangay Bad-as,
Placer town of the same province was saddened and vehemently condemned the
attack on innocent civilian. “I appeal to this lawless communist bandit group
to put an end to their terroristic activities and stop subjecting innocent

Caraga ICT Council to open tech-exhibit

BUTUAN CITY, June 25 (PIA) – In celebration of the
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) month, the Caraga ICT Council,
in partnership of the Department of Science and Technology – ICT (DOST-ICT)
Office, is inviting the public and partner stakeholders for its culmination
program and exhibit on June 30, 2016 at the Atrium of Robinsons Place, this
city.
As disclosed by Engr. Alan Silor, president of
Caraga ICT Council, the exhibit will showcase digital solutions, technology
advancement, software and mobile applications development.
“As the theme goes, ‘ICT, Susi sa Kinabukasan”, we
look forward to develop local talents and generate human resources to provide
the growing industry in the field of information and communication technology.
Also, we will help reveal and promote the ICT innovations for social and
economic and progress,” said Engr. Silor.
He is encouraging more the IT wizards to joint the
event and to explore together the growth potential of the ICT industry in
