opens Naliyagan Festival 2016

BUTUAN CITY, June 12
(PIA) – In time with the 118th Independence Day celebration, the local
government officials, heads of government agencies, and guests from different
municipalities of Caraga region gathered at the Naliyagan Cultural Center,
Patin-ay, Prosperidand Agusan del Sur on Sunday witnessing the grand opening of
the 24th Naliyagan Festival and 49th Founding Anniversary of the province.
The event started with
an entrancre of colors by the 401st Brigade, 4th Infantry Division. Hoisting of
the national, provincial, city, municipal and barangay flags followed,
accompanied also by the singing of the National Anthem, Naliyagan Hymn, Agusan
Hymn and Agusan March.
This year’s week-long
festival which will run from June 12-17, 2016 is anchored on the theme,
“Productivity and Unity in Diversity”.
Agusan del Sur vice
governor Santiago Cane, Jr. emphasized that the festival is not meant to gain
additional funds for the province rather to celebrate the birth of the
province, share the joy of the people, and especially to give small
entrepreneurs the avenue to promote their products and opportunity for them to
earn more. "The theme is focused on productivity of people in terms of
agriculture which will in turn eradicate, if not, to improve the state of poverty
in the province,” Cane said.
Cane added as he
relayed the message of provincial governor Adolph Edward Plaza, that the local
government remains steadfast in pursuing progress and improvement of system,
and to continue moving forward through unified efforts.
Meanwhile, with fervent
prayers to sustain the progress and in seeking for lasting peace and security
of the province of Agusan del Sur, an ecumenical prayer among religious leaders
was offered.
One of the highlights
was the Kalayaan Jobs Fair where employment opportunities were made available
to the public. During the evening of the kick-off celebration of the Naliyagan
Festival, viewers will be entertained with the Cultural Show; TM Republikaravan
sa Naliyagan featuring Siakol and Daybreak Band; Naliyagan Acoustics; Fireworks
Display and Rave and Foam Party.
In her message, 1st
District Representative Maria Valentina Plaza mentioned with specific emphasis
on thanking the people of Agusan del Sur for their unrelenting support, and
since the Independence Day is also commemorated, she likewise underscored the
heroism of the forefathers and encouraged everyone to be inspired with the
courage they have shown in attainment of the nation’s freedom. She further
urged for unity in action by performing the role of each Agusanon in achieving
progress.
Also, Agusan del Sur
2nd District Representative Evelyn Mellana expressed her warmest greetings to
all the Agusanons with high hopes that they will be motivated to deepen the
community bonds needed in pushing Agusan del Sur farther onto the road of
progress.
Meanwhile, the chairman
of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan - Committee on Education Edward Mellana
presented the 557 provincial scholars. A press conference was also held after
the concluding parts of the program which include the releasing of balloons,
freeing of doves, and awarding of individuals with best Filipiniana and best
Barong attires.
The word “Naliyagan”
means the chosen one, the most loved one. Hence, the Naliyagan Festival is
where all the indigenous natives of the entire river valley of Agusan del Sur
converge to display their dances, songs, products both agricultural and cottage
industries, novelties intricately handmade displaying their glorious past of

Sur, Hunyo 12 (PIA) - Pormal nang binuksan nitong linggo ang ika-24 na
selebrasyon ng Naliyagan Festival sa probinsya ng Agusan del Sur kasabay nang
pagdiriwang ng ika-49 na anibersaryo sa pagkakatatag ng nasabing probinsya.
Dinaluhan ito ng
mahigit isang libo katao na binubuo ng mga local officials, heads and
representatives of government agencies, academe, pribadong sektor at media na
ginanap sa Naliyagan Cultural Center main stage nitong bayan.
Ayon kay First District
Congresswoman Ma. Valentina Plaza, may ibat-ibang aktibidades na inihanda ang
lokal na gobyerno at Naliyagan Foundation mula Hunyo 12 hanggang Hunyo 17 sa
taong ito.
Anya, ang ibig sabihin
ng salitang Naliyagan ay pinakanatatangi
at pinakamamahal. Isa umano itong pagdiriwang kung saan ang ibat-ibang
tribu sa buong river valley ng Agusan del Sur ay magtitipon-tipon at
magpapakita ng kanilang kultura sa pamamagitan ng sayaw, kanta, mga produktong
agrikultura at cottage industries na gawa nila na sya ring magpapatunay sa
mayaman nilang kultura at tradisyon.

Plaza, layon ng nasabing selebrasyon na mabigyan ng pagkakataon ang mga IPs na
makahalubilo sa ibang komunidad, makilala sila at maging mas progresibo pa.
Samantala, inaanyayahan
din ni Dr. Manuel Rosaut Jr., ang kasalukuyang chairman ng Provincial Tourism
Council ng probinsya ang mga Caraganons na dumalo at makisama sa kanilang mga
pagidiriwang. Kabilang sa magiging highlight anya ang Bae Naliyagan 2016 (talent
showdown); Naliyagan Cultural Show; Naliyagan Acoustics; 8th Naliyagan Bauto
Race; Naliyagan Street Dancing Competition; Naliyagan Fireworks Display at
Naliyagan Rave and Foam Party gabi-gabi.
Dagdag pa ni Dr. Rosaut
na mahigpit ang seguridad na pinapatupad ng mg kapulisan at kasundaluhan at iba
pang law enforcement agencies para maging maayos at payapa ang selebrasyon.
Napag-alaman din na
bilang pagtatapos ng selebrasyon sa Hunyo a-dese-syete ay gaganapin rin ang
State of the Province Address (SOPA) ni Gov. Adolph Edward “Eddiebong” Plaza.
