Surigao Norte guv convenes mining stakeholders
SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte, July 15 (PIA) –
The provincial government of Surigao del Norte on Thursday spearheaded a mining
stakeholders meeting at the Governor’s Conference Room, Capitol Compound, here.
Provincial Information Officer Mary Jul Escalante
bared that some lingering issues and concerns on mining activities like
siltation in Claver town, fisk kill in Lake Mainit, non-payment of business
tax, royalty income of the IP’s (Indigenous People), and other related matters
are being discussed during the said meeting.
Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) 13 regional
director Alilo Ensomo presented the status report on large scale mining
companies in the province.
Meanwhile, the representatives from the Department
of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) discussed the reforestation
activities of the mining companies in the province as part of their social
development and management program.
Also during the meeting, the officials from
different mining companies presented their plans and programs in compliance
with the national government's call for responsible mining.
The one-day meeting was attended by governor Sol
Matugas and the officials and representatives of Hinatuan Mining Corporation,
Taganito Mining Corp, Taganito HPAL, Platinum Group Metals Corporation, Adnama
Mining, Greenstone Mining Corporation, Silangan Mining Corporation, and
