‘ASEAN Showcase 2016’ forum set to unfold opportunities

By Venus L. Garcia

BUTUAN CITY, Sept. 30 (PIA) - A group of professors, school administrators, textbook authors, lecturers and trainers, in partnership with Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP), have collaborated with various stakeholders and participants in the ASEAN Economic Integration to launch a forum dubbed “ASEAN Showcase: A Basket of Opportunities” which will be held on October 8, 2016 at the Diosdado Macapagal Hall, Landbank Plaza in Malate, Manila.

This forum aims to keep the people abreast with the ASEAN Economic Integration, and to explore the vast opportunities in it. Various topics and issues will be discussed by experienced speakers in the fields of academe, government and business, and at the same time present the impact of the ASEAN Economic Integration on these sectors.

“Through this forum, more Filipinos could be made aware of the possibilities, challenges and opportunities in the ASEAN community,” said Melody Grace Llona, event coordinator of Core Learning Solutions Asia Corp.

Llona elaborated further that the ASEAN Showcase focuses on the many advantages and prospects for collaboration among different sectors. As companies compete with ASEAN neighbors, they expect their employees and managers to possess the skills of effective communication, critical thinking, collaboration, creativity and cultural literacy to become trailblazers in the industry.

“These skills are not usually contextualized in schools, but those in the workplace have to possess these five Cs to survive and, more importantly, to thrive. Thus, this educational event will link stakeholders in the academe, business and government to gather insights on developing talents and future workforce in the ASEAN community, for mobility and competitiveness,” added Llona.

As a venue to get updates about the ASEAN-related programs and initiatives from private organizations and from the different line agencies of the Philippine government, credible speakers were invited to deliver a talk, to include: Chairperson of ASEAN Women Entrepreneurs’ Network Pacita Juan (Empowering Women Entrepreneurs in the ASEAN); Assistant Secretary Maria Helen De La Vega, Office of ASEAN Affairs, Department of Foreign Affairs (Applying the 5Cs in Manager ASEAN Affairs); Project Manager/Information Manager AndrΓ© Fournier at Philippine Disaster Recovery Foundation (Impact of the ASEAN Economic Integration on Disaster); Assistant Director Agnes Perpetua Legaspi, Marketing Bureau of Department of Trade and Industry (Stage of Filipino Businesses in the Midst of ASEAN), among others.
