DILG urges LGUs to verify ‘Federalism’ advocacy
groups
By Venus L. Garcia
BUTUAN CITY, June 20 (PIA) – The Department of
Interior and Local Government (DILG) encourages all local government units (LGUs)
to coordinate all orientation initiatives on Federalism with the respective
DILG regional and field offices to protect them from unscrupulous individuals
and groups that prey on their resources just to orchestrate their campaign even
without the endorsement and recognition by DILG central office.
In a memorandum issued to all provincial governors,
city and municipal mayors and punong barangays by DILG officer-in-charge
Catalino S. Cuy, it indicated that various institutions and organizations are
showing their support to the administration’s thrust to promote the shift to a
Federal form of government by initiating activities aimed at orienting citizens
and generating support for Federalism. The DILG, however, has received several
reports about some individuals and groups taking advantage of LGUs by requiring
the use of LGU resources for the conduct of such activities.
“While the DILG appreciates the support and
enthusiasm being shown by the various institutions and organizations to the
national government’s thrust for Federalism, we likewise encourage all LGUs to
make verifications to ensure that such efforts are harmonized and conducted
with the sole intention to educate citizens,” said Cuy.
In Caraga region, the Mayor Rodrigo Roa Duterte
National Executive Coordinating Committee People’s National Movement for
Federalism (MRRD NECC PENAMFED) chaired by Temoteo C. Pableo is so far the only
group recognized by DILG central office to conduct talks on Federalism.
