DOST readies 2017 Nat’l Science and Technology Week

BUTUAN CITY, July 11 (PIA) – The Department of
Science and Technology (DOST) is once again spearheading activities in line
with this year’s National Science and Technology Week on August 8-11.
According to DOST Caraga regional director Dominga
Mallonga, the celebration aims at showing the DOST-developed world-class
technologies, and the programs and services offered by the department.
“It will also become an avenue for stakeholders from
different sectors to converge for Science and Technology in the region. There
will be exhibits, launching of the Food Innovation Center, Technology Forum,
and Science and Technology contests among others,” underlined Mallonga.
The NSTW is celebrated every third week of July
yearly through Proclamation No. 169 of 1993. It aims to recognize the
contribution of science and technology in the development of the country and
garner support from the public and private institutions for its sustainable
development.
The 2017 NSTW is anchored on the theme, “Science

AgNor PDRRMC to hold radio operators forum

BUTUAN CITY, July 11 (PIA) – In line with the
month-long observance of the National Disaster Resilience Month (NDRM) , the
Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) of Agusan
del Norte will conduct a 2-day radio operators forum on July 12-13 at the
Provincial Training Center here.
PDRRMO chief Erma Suyo said the forum entitled
“Agusan del Norte On Air" (ADNOA) is aimed to enhance the provinces’ radio
communication capabilities especially during emergency operations where
radio communications is needed.
“The role of radio communications during
emergencies and disasters cannot be underestimated and should be considered a
culture,“ Suyo added.
This year’s NDRM observance is anchored on the
theme “4Ks: Kamalayan sa Kahandaan, Katumbas ay Kaligtasan.” (NCLM/PIA-Agusan

SurSur to conduct IDP dialogue in Lianga

TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur, July 11 (PIA) – A
community consultation dialogue that would discuss urgent pressing matters
relative to the reported internally displaced persons (IDPs) from the upper
communities in Lianga town is set on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 to be held at the
Mayor’s Office Conference Room in Poblacion, Lianga, Surigao del Sur.
The local government unit of Lianga has invited the
members of the Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) – Conflict Management
Cluster to join in the said dialogue. Some identified (selected) sectors are
also invited that could contribute and take their part to help resolve the
issues and concerns that would be raised by the local constituents specially
the affected Indigenous Peoples (IPs).
It can be recalled that some 2,000 Manobo lumads
from nine hinterland communities of Lianga fled their homes recently, fearing
for the military operation and strict checkpoints conducted by government
forces in the area.
Allegedly, the IPs noticed the presence of military
helicopters and a bomber plane hovering around their villages in Andap Valley a

PSA conducts 2017 annual poverty indicator survey
in Surigao Norte

SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte, July 11 (PIA) –
The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Surigao del Norte starts its Annual
Poverty Indicator Survey (APIS) for the year 2017 from July 8 to 31, 2017.
According to Surigao del Norte provincial
statistics officer Guillermo M. Lipio, Jr, APIS 2017 is the 12th in a series of
poverty indicators survey conducted nationwide.
He said the survey gathers data that can be used to
generate income and non-income based poverty indicators for use in assessing
and monitoring the poverty situation in the country.
Lipio, further said the statistical researchers of
the PSA Surigao del Norte are tasked to interview APIS sample households in the
province.
“Respondents will be asked the basic questions on
socio-economic profile of their families and other information related to their

DAR Agusan Norte agrarian-beneficiaries get 'Tulay
ng Pangulo'

BUTUAN CITY, July 11 - The Department of Agrarian
Reform (DAR) of Agusan del Norte headed by Provincial Agrarian Reform Program
Officer Andre B. Atega, CESO V, conducted a site inspection of the two
newly-constructed bridges under the Tulay ng Pangulo Para sa Kaunlarang Agraryo
Program (TPKP) located at Barangay Ampayon, this city and Barangay Sacol in
Buenavista town, Agusan del Norte.
The project is part of DAR Secretary Rafael “Ka
Paeng” Mariano’s commitment to respond to the needs of Agrarian Reform
Beneficiaries (ARBs) in partnership with Department of Public Works and
Highways-Bridges Management Cluster-Unified Project Management Office
(DPWH-BMC-UPMO).
Engineer IV Norman I. Puy of DPWH-BMC-UPMO, said
that the two bridges installed in Barangay Ampayon, and Barangay Sacol have a
total cost of P50 million or P25 million each under TPKP program of President
Rodrigo Duterte.
“The project installed has 28-lineal Uni-Bridge
(Universal Bridge) included a 6.1 meters double-lane, a side-walk, and a
30-meter approach on both sides. The bridge can take a 40 Ton load when
concrete is fully seasoned,” Puy added.
The Ampayon Bridge linked from Barangay Ampayon
through the CABATA ARC (Barangay Camayahan, Basag and Taligaman Agrarian Reform
Community) in Butuan City and in Barangay Sacol Bridge now served as the link
to neighboring barangays in Buenavista town where some agrarian-beneficiaries
inhabited.
Municipal Agrarian Reform Program Officer Ester
Cabalan of Butuan City said that the projects that linked the road network
within the ARC barangays eventually lead to the improvement of the economic
welfare of more than a thousand of agrarian reform beneficiaries at the
