BUTUAN CITY, May 11 (PIA) -- In a final deployment
planning conducted during the second round of the Agusan del Norte Provincial
Joint Security Control Center Command Conference on Thursday, the Commission on
Elections (COMELEC) provincial office and deputized agencies discussed
different issues and concerns on the ongoing preparations of the 2018
Synchronized Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) on May 14,
2018.
COMELEC
Agusan del Norte provincial election supervisor Atty. April Joy P. Balano
reported that different COMELEC municipal and city offices in the province in
coordination with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine
National Police (PNP) and deputized agencies have already conducted several
activities such as voters’ education, security measures planning,
information, education and communication (IEC), and other activities related to
the successful conduct of the BSKE.
“We
are now ready for the BSKE. The deployment plan of election materials are now
being tackled and properly planned out, and security measures by the AFP and
PNP are now in place,” said Atty. Balano.
Also,
she said that there are barangays in the province and cities that need early
delivery of the ballots on May 13, 2018, a day before the BSKE due to security
measures and considering the big number of voters.
A
COMELEC resolution is also present allowing the delivery of the ballots to the
identified areas. These include four barangays of Buenavista; all the 86
barangays of Butuan City; Jabonga – 3; Kitcharao – 4; Las Nieves – 16;
Nasipit – 2; and Tubay – 6.
Meanwhile,
the AFP (23IB and 29IB) and PNP will also deploy personnel to the
municipalities and cities. Part of the activities would include patrolling
before, during and after the conduct of the BSKE.
Atty.
Balano also revealed that the province of Agusan del Norte COMELEC has recorded
a total of 174,438 registered voters for the SK and 436,155 for the Barangay.
There
are 9,290 candidates who filed for the SK and Barangay posts, she
added. (NCLM/PIA-Agusan del Norte)
