33 CSOs attend SYOB, business planning in Las
Nieves
LAS
NIEVES, Agusan del Norte, June 11 -- Around 33 participants from 13 civil
society organizations from the municipality of Las Nieves participated in the
"Starting Your Own Business” (SYOB) seminar with a business planning
workshop held recently here.
Las
Nieves Negosyo Center (NC) Manager Ramabe Montilla said the seminar was held to
instill entrepreneurial mindset among the local groups by presenting to them
the importance of business and entrepreneurs to the economy and to the
development of an area.
"It
is important to make these organizations entrepreneurially driven since they
have great resources (vast lands and crops with human resources) and optimum
utilization of this potential will be beneficial to all," said Montilla.
Montilla,
acting as lead facilitator, discussed the following: rewards and risk of going
into business, attributes of a successful entrepreneur, steps and consideration
in starting an enterprise, and writing a business plan.
He
also presented business planning and its importance.
This
was followed by an exercise to help the participants think of a suitable
business for them to match their current resources and potential.
Some
of the business ideas generated were banana chips and barquillos making, water
refilling station, bottled water supplier, furniture production, meat
processing/food processing, lending, feeds making, rice trading and rubber
trading.
Montilla
and NC Las Nieves Project Staff Niel John Dapat guided the participants in
preparing a simple business plan for their ideas.
The
participants expressed their appreciation for the simple business planning
exercise because accordingly “as aspiring entrepreneurs it helped us get a
glance of the business they are pursuing or may pursue soon, and see how much
cost will be used up and how much income we can gain.”
Montilla
also told them that a well-prepared business plan can also help them source
funds or get investors for their business. (DTI-Agusan del
