PUV modernization
program roadshow set in Butuan City

BUTUAN
CITY, Mar. 14 (PIA) - To further inform the public about the Public Utility
Vehicle Modernization Program’s (PUVMP’s) effects and benefits, the Land
Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) – Caraga is set to
conduct here a PUVMP Roadshow on March 16, 2019 at the Agusan del Norte Capitol
Covered Court, Capitol Compound.
This event
will gather transport operators and drivers from different areas in the region
to keep them aware of the PUVMP policies and the various trainings and social
support programs that will be available for them.
Representatives
from the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) and Landbank were invited to
talk about the government’s financial assistance under the PUVMP.
The
manufacturers and dealers of modern vehicles and the required safety and
security gadgets will also showcase their products.
The PUVMP
is a a large-scale transformational plan and flagship program under the Duterte
administration that envisions a restructured, modern, well-managed and environmentally
sustainable transport sector where drivers and operators have stable,
sufficient and dignified livelihoods while commuters get to their destinations

RGADC recognizes outstanding women during Int'l
Women's Day celebration

BUTUAN
CITY, Mar. 14 (PIA) -- In time with the International Women's Day celebration,
the Regional Gender and Development Committee (RGADC) Caraga recognized
outstanding women from various government agencies in the region, held recently
at the Grand Palace Hotel, this city.
Wearing
their purple shirts to show support to this year's Women's Month celebration,
the women and men from government agencies, private sector, civil society
organizations and non-government organizations convened and filled the whole
convention hall as they witnessed and listened to the guests speakers of said
activity, as well as the awarding of outstanding women of different fields in
the region.
The
Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Caraga awarded five successful women
entrepreneurs, namely Luxmi Auxilio, general manager of Baug CARP Beneficiaries
Multipurpose Cooperative in Magalanes, Agusan del Norte; Ervian Ramoso Sotis,
proprietor of Ermies Food Products in Loreto, Agusan del Sur; Rosanna
Jose-Lisbos, proprietor of Lisbos Merchandise in Bacuag, Surigao del Norte;
Hazel Pasok, proprietor who manages three different business in Tandag, Surigao
del Sur; and Carmelita Rubia, proprietor of Nova Turmeric in San Jose, Dinagat
Islands.
Lilibeth
Arce of Surigao City was also recognized as outstanding rural woman 2018 by the
Department of Agriculture (DA) Caraga, along with Dir. Dominga Mallonga,
regional director of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and Nena
Importanante of Home Development and Mutual Fund (HDMF) as outstanding
performing women.
The women
GAD focal retirees were also recognized and received their plaques, namely
Isabelita Ocampo of DA; Dr. Iglesia Toldo of the Department of Education
(DepEd); Sally Joy Bungabong of the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA);
and Josephine Magdula of the Department of Health (DOH).
In her
message, lawyer Jerefe Tubigon-Bacang, CHR-13 regional director and RGADC
chairperson, congratulated all the awardees and encouraged them to inspire more
women to excel in their chosen fields and be able to contribute to women
empowerment efforts of the government.
Bacang
also emphasized the promotion of gender equality in all aspects of life. She
also lauded the participating men who have become very supportive to the
welfare of the women sector, and active advocates on the campaign against any
form of violence against women.
She
further reiterated the significance of self-care among women in order to
prevent different common diseases such as breast and cervical cancer.
Meanwhile,
Concepcion Asis, vice chairperson RGADC, said the country celebrates Women's
Month every year because people believe in what women do in the society and in
nation-building. She stressed that women continue to do harder and better, as
they continue to inspire others.
International
Women’s Day is observed annually on March 8th. This global day celebrates the
cultural, political, social and economic achievements of women. The day also
