Caraga Army to resume
operations vs CNTs as truce expires
BUTUAN
CITY, Jan. 13 -- The 402nd Infantry “Stingers” Brigade, Philippine Army is set
to continue its offensive operations against the CPP-NPA Terrorists (CNTs) in
its Area of Responsibility (AOR) after the expiration of the holiday ceasefire
between the Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP) and the
Communist Party of the Philippines-New Peoples Army-National Democratic Front
on January 7, 2020.
BGen. Maurito Licudine, 402nd Brigade Commander, expressed the determination of his troops to resume operations, especially after the CNTs violated the holiday truce.
"We adhered to the provisions of the ceasefire and saw to it that no violations will be committed by our troops. With the ceasefire officially terminated, our troops will continue our hunt for the CNTs as they have never ceased inflicting sufferings to our people,” he said.
The CNTs have failed to honor the truce as attacks happened in the different parts of the country, the first of which was in Labo, Camarines Norte on December 23, 2019. Attacks were also reported in Compostela Valley on December 30, 2019, and in Cabanglasan, Bukidnon on January 4.
In Caraga region, the reported attacks were concentrated on the province of Agusan del Sur. Civilian trucks were burned in Brgy Libertad, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur and recently, Datu Bontola Tinaghao Mansinugdan was killed mercilessly by the CNTs.
The national government has called for the CNTs to prove their sincerity in committing to honor official agreements should they wish to proceed with their operations in line with the preconditions set by the government of which was reiterated by BGen. Licudine.
“Time
and time again, the government has gone the extra mile to honor the requests of
the CNT but we are yet to see the same level of sincerity from their part. They
must show their ability to honor agreements so that innocent lives will be
spared and lasting peace can be attained,” he added.
President
Rodrigo Duterte declared a nationwide unilateral ceasefire as per the request
of the CNTs, effective from 12:00 AM of December 23, 2019, to 11:59 PM on
January 7, 2020. This also served as a confidence-building measure before the resumption
of the formal peace talks. (402nd Brigade/PIA-Caraga)
2 young NPAs surrender in Surigao Sur
By Lt.
Krisjuper Andreo J. Punsalan
TANDAG
CITY, Surigao del Sur, Jan. 13 -- It's a new life for the new year for the two
young New People’s Army (NPAs) who are included in the army’s watchlist and
chose to surrender on January 9, 2020 to 7th Special Forces “Spartans” (SF)
Company under 3rd Special Forces “Arrowhead” Battalion (3SFBn) in Barangay
Mararag, Marihatag town this province. They brought along with them one 5.56
M16A1 rifle, one M653 rifle, two long magazines with 86 rounds of ammunition.
Based
on the report, both surrenderees are members of the communist NPA terrorists,
CNTs’ Weakened Guerilla Front 19 (WGF19), Northeastern Mindanao Regional
Committee (NEMRC).
Alias
John who was only 17-year-old then and alias Dave, who requested anonymity for
security reasons, were buddies and both are residents of Barangay Mahaba in
Marihatag town.
Alias
Julian recruited them in the vicinity of Baliad in Diatagon, Lianga, Surigao
del Sur. As curious young individuals, they explored and joined the terrorist
group but regretted their decision in the end because of miserable experiences.
Starvation, exhaustion and the irrelevance of their existence as a terrorist
group were factors for their surrender.
They
had a chance to quit from the group when they were tasked to plead for food in
the far-flung communities outside their guerrilla base. Both became squad
leaders and stayed in the group from April to October 2019 and they formally
surrendered this year.
“Gutom,
at ayaw na naming bumalik,” John said.
It can
be recalled that last December 2019, the Marihatag Municipal Task Force to End
Local Communist Armed Conflict (MTF-ELCAC) hosted a peace dialogue in barangay
Mahaba spearheaded by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority
(TESDA) Surigao del Sur as the lead agency for Poverty Reduction, Employment
and Livelihood Cluster. The Enhanced Local Comprehensive Integration Program
(E-CLIP) for NPA surrenderees was discussed and disseminated in the community
through leaflets distribution and the Community Support Program teams that were
immersed in the barangay last year.
Colonel
Allan D. Hambala, 401st ”Unite and Fight” Infantry Brigade commander, urged the
members of the task force to be more active in delivering the basic services in
the conflict-affected areas because the government’s visibility will surely
create an impact to disprove the CNT’s promises and will weaken the CNTs’ will
to fight which can induce for more surrenders in the future. (CMO-3rd

Revival sa mango processing
sa Carmen, gisugdan na
By Angel
Lyn F. Gaviola
DAKBAYAN
Process! Process!
Project ubos sa Agus 3Ps or Plant and Process for Prosperity, usa sa mga
flagship programs sa AGUSAN UP!
Ang
mango processing plant kabahin sa nahimong proyekto sa Philippine Cold Chain
Project sa United State Agency for International Development nga gi-turn over
na sa munisipyo.
Sumala
“Ang
atong mangga dinhi nag bear na gyud og fruits. Wala na kaayo nag-planting
dinhe, wala na ka expansion. Three years nga wala nay planting.
So kung duna
mi mga planting karon kaning programa lagi sa Agusan Up! nga Plant! Plant!
Plant! kadto nang sa banana, cacao, pineapple, cassava, calamansi mao to among
Subay
niini, nagpadnagat usab ang Department of Agricultre (DA) og inputs pagpadaghan
Nagtabang
kabahin sa probinsya, nahibaw-an gikan sa AGUSAN UP CORDINATING UNIT nga
Agus 3Ps o Plant and Process for
(AGUSAN UP, LGU Agusan del
