Various sectors discuss ways to curb harmful effects of Climate Change

BUTUAN CITY, Jan. 8 (PIA) --
Different sectors in Caraga region were oriented about the harmful impacts of
Climate Change, which are caused mainly by the increased levels of atmospheric
carbon dioxide produced by the use of fossil fuels. And this has brought more
risks to people’s health conditions.
With this initiative posed by the
Commission on Human Rights (CHR) Caraga, the Forum on Climate Justice held in
Butuan City has enlightened the sectoral groups to take responsibility and
promote the rights of every individual to live in a pollution-free environment,
and to hold corporations accountable for contributing to these effects.
Atty. Zeldania Soriano, who heads
the Community Legal Help Project, cited that petitioners against fossil
fuel-producing companies have found the significance of “climate justice” as
these companies have been held liable by the united nations framework
convention on climate change for contributing much to the climate change’
impacts.
CHR-Caraga regional director Atty.
Jerefe Tubigon-Bacang underlined the corporate responsibility and important
role of every sector to curb the harmful effects of climate change brought about
by the use of fossil fuel that causes danger to people’s health condition.
“Every Filipino, not only the
scientists, academicians should know about Climate Change and its effects to
the country. We should take an active part in contributing to the efforts of
the government in minimizing the emission that really caused pollution,” said
Bacang.
Various sectors have expressed
their full support and cooperation to the resolutions initiated by the
government that will also benefit the next generation.
Atty. Marjorie Llamo,
representative from the Urios Legal Assistance Program (ULAP) of the Father
Saturnino Urios University (FSUU) in Butuan City, also shared that every
individual should have a better understanding on Climate Change and its effects
to the communities and in the country in general.
“Let’s take this issue seriously
and make a move even on our own little ways to lessen the impact of Climate
Change. Let us work together with the government stakeholders and support them,

BUTUAN CITY, Jan. 8 (PIA) -- The
year 2020 is expected to be busier for Agusan del Norte employees as projects
under AGUSAN UP! will require better work performance from personnel who work
for the betterment of Agusan del Norte.
During the Monday Convocation
Program on January 6 at the capitol grounds, Governor Dale B. Corvera said the
projects laid out for the current year will require higher performance ratings
from the employees of the provincial capitol to further the progress envisioned
by the eight-point development agenda.
A meeting among the office heads
is scheduled this January 14 to evaluate the relevance of the projects they
have prepared for the current year to the objectives of AGUSAN UP!, he said.
The AGUSAN UP! is comprised of
four flagship programs: Agus 3Ps or the Plant and Process for Prosperity that
targets economic development; Amumamang Agusanon which focuses on social
progress; Lunhaw’ng Agusan which promotes environmental conservation and
protection; and Hiniusang Lihuk Agusan which aims to develop an organized
system to guarantee efficiency.
Through the mentioned programs,
the vision of making Agusan del Norte an agri-forest processing center and
economic zone in Caraga in the year 2027 will be made possible which is
foreseen to mitigate the poverty rate in the province, from a whopping 34% down

Ito ay sa tulong na rin ng
Commission on Human Rights (CHR) na siyang nanguna sa isinagawang Forum on
Climate Justice, kung saan isinusulong ang karapatan ng bawat indibidwal na
mamuhay nang malayo sa polusyon at mapanagot ang mga korporasyong lumalabag
dito.
Ibinahagi ni Atty. Zeldania
Soriano, head ng Community Legal Help Project, ang naging hatol ng United
Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change sa mga inireklamo ng mga
petitioners mula sa ibat-ibang panig ng bansa laban sa mga fossil fuel
companies na may malaking kontribusyon sa climate change.
Binigyang-diin naman ni CHR-Caraga
regional director Atty. Jerefe Tubigon-Bacang ang malaking responsibilidad ng
bawat sektor upang matugunan at masugpo ang lumalalang epekto ng Climate Change
sa mundo.
“Bawat Pilipino, hindi lang dapat
yung mga scientist o akademisyans ang makaalam nito, lalu na an gating
komitment bilang isang bansa na makabigay kontribusyon sa pagbaba ng emisyon,”
sabi ni Bacang.
Buo naman ang suporta ng
iba’t-ibang sektor sa inisyatibong ito ng pamahalaan lalo pa at para ito sa
susunod na henerasyon.
“Mahalagang mas maintindihan natin
kung ano ang naidudulot sa atin ng epekto ng Climate Change at nang maisagawa
natin ang mga nararapat na hakbang upang ito’y masolusyunan at hindi na
makasira sa ano man ang meron tayo ngayon,” pahayag ni Atty. Marjorie Llamo, ng

Nagbahagi rin ang iba pang mga

Land tenure target
sa SurSur nasa mahigit 130% sa taong 2019

TANDAG CITY,
Surigao del Sur, Enero 8 (PIA) – Ibinunyag ng opisyal ng Department of Agrarian
Reform (DAR) sa Surigao del Sur na nalagpasan na nila ng mahigit sa 100
porsyento ang kanilang “Land Tenure Services” (LTS) target sa taong 2019.
Sa panayam kay
Provincial Agrarian Reform Officer (PARO) Leoncio Bautista, ibinunyag niya na
nakamit na nila ang 130 porsyento na accomplishment sa LTS program, at 120
porsyento naman sa Program Beneficiaries Development (PBD), lagpas sa kanilang
tinatayang target na makamtan ang 100 porsyento sa taong 2019.
"Dahil sa
komitment at kooperasyon na ibinigay ng buong workforce ng Surigao del Sur sa
tatlong major output ng departamento, sa Land Tenure improvement lahat ng 10
funded targets ng LTS ay na surpass ng ahensya namin ang implementasyon sa
buong probinsya,” sabi ni PARO Bautista.
Base sa datus na
ibinahagi mula sa Land Tenure Improvement Division (LTID) ng nasabing ahensya,
sila ay nakapag comply sa Survey of New Lands na umabot sa 308.2373 ektarya o
136 porsyento mula sa kanila target na 477.9864 ektarya lamang.
Bukod pa dito, 227
Certificate of Land Ownership Award (CLOA) ang naibigay nila sa taong 2019 na
mayroong 377.5421 ektaryang lupa o 214 porsyento mula sa kanilang target na 98
CLOAs at eryang 176.2107 sa buong probinsya.
Sa ginawang
stratehiya para makamit ang tinatayang abutin bago pa man matapos ang 2019,
naging sandata ng mga personahe sa nasabing ahensya ang kooperasyon, didikasyon
at komitment sa trabaho, na naging daan upang makampatan ang mataas na marka,
paglilinaw pa ni PARO Bautista.
“Hangad ko na
maibalik sa ang dating kasikatan ng Surigao del Sur na ngayon pa lang ay

May martial law o wala, mas paiigtingin pa ng
militar ang seguridad sa Caraga

LUNGSOD NG BUTUAN, Enero 8 (PIA) -
Tiniyak ng militar ang patuloy na pagpapatupad ng mahigpit na seguridad kahit
hindi na pinalawig pa ang batas militar sa Mindanao.
Ayon kay Brigadier General
Maurito Licudine, commander ng 402nd Brigade, Philippine Army, magpapatuloy ang
kanilang regular na operasyon at mas paiigtingin pa ang seguridad ng bawat
komunidad lalo pa at pinapatupad din ang Executive Order 70 o ang
whole-of-nation approach sa pagsugpo ng insurhensiya sa bansa.
Dagdag ng opisyal, marami na ring
mga sumusukong miyembro ng New People's Army bitbit ang kani-kanilang high-powered
firearms upang mamuhay ng normal at mapayapa kasama ang kanilang pamilya na may
maayos na pangkabuhayan.
“May martial law o wala dito sa
Mindanao, patuloy pa ring sisiguruhin ng Philippine Army ang seguridad at
kaayusan sa rehiyon ng Caraga,” ani ni Licudine.
Dagdag pa ng opisyal, mas magiging
maunlad ang rehiyon ng Caraga, maging ang ibang rehiyon sa Mindanao kung
mapapanatiling payapa at ligtas ang mga mamamayan dito. Mas marami pang
investors na papasok sa lugar.
Sinabi naman ni Col. Allan
Hambala, commander ng 401st Brigade na marami ng programa't serbisyo mula sa
gobyerno ang pinapakinabangan ngayon ng mga dating rebelde, maliban pa sa ayuda
na kanilang matatanggap sa kanilang pagsuko.
Isa na dito ang ipinatayong
half-way house sa Agusan del Sur para sa pagbabagong buhay ng mga sumukong
rebelde.
Patuloy din nilang tutugisin ang
iba pang miyembro ng Communist Party of the Philippines – New People’s Army
(CPP-NPA) at masugpo ang kanilang idinudulot na karahasan at pang-aabuso sa mga
sektor lalu na sa mga Indigenous Peoples.
“Naka-alerto pa rin ang ating
kapulisan at Army at mananatiling nakatutok sa pagsiguro ng proteksyon at
seguridad ng mamamayan,” sabi ni Hambala.
Matatandaan din na nagpahayag ng
kanyang suporta si Butuan Bishop Most Reverend Cosme Damian Almedilla sa
pagpapatupad ng Martial Law sa Mindanao.
“Kung makabubuti naman ang
maidudulot ng Martial Law sa Mindanao, susuportahan natin ang implementasyon
