BUTUAN CITY, June 24 (PIA) -- As a way to help the affected sectors in
the barangays during this coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, the local
government unit (LGU) of Trento in Agusan del Sur, in partnership with a
private sector, has launched a Commercial Vegetable Production Farm in Barangay
Manat of said municipality.
The target beneficiaries are planting various types of vegetables at the
eight hectares of land provided to them.
The program aims to establish a local market with locally produced
organic vegetables from the barangay’s farm.
Along with this, the Agumil Plantations which provided the farm land has
signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), together with the Barangay Local
Government of Manat, whose residents are the ones planting and monitoring the
development of the farm, and the LGU-Trento who provided the seedlings through
the municipal agriculture office.
“I am thankful particularly to the 75th Infantry Battalion, to our
barangay officials, Department of Agriculture, API company, and LGU Trento
which really made effort and pushed for the implementation of this program to
help us here in our barangay,” said Jobert Galano, a grower-beneficiary in
Barangay Manat.
Trento Mayor William Calvez urged the locals to steward the community
commercial vegetable production farm and sustain it, as it helps support their
livelihood during this pandemic.
The establishment of a trading post for the harvested vegetables is also
underway.
“We really have to make this work effectively. Technically, the DA is
here to help us in this endeavor. And the government will look for ways to
market the harvested products,” bared Mayor Calvez.
Barangay chairperson Danny Concepcion was thankful to the government and
partners for the said program in their area.
Meanwhile, Alvin Defeo, the manager of Agumil Plantations emphasized
