1 killed, hurt as NPA rebels torch equipment in SurSur
TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur (PIA) – Mayor Anilao Dawog of Lanuza, Surigao del Sur has condemned the recent communist terrorist group (CTG) attack that killed one and hurt civilians in the town, around 9:00 PM on June 24. The firefight has lasted around 30 minutes. Two backhoes of the firm MR1 Construction were also burned by the CTG.
“I am expressing my extreme sadness
on the recent attack on the Lanuza Municipal Police Station, burning of heavy
equipment of the MR1 Construction Company, and the senseless killing of an
innocent civilian committed by the New People's Army Guerilla Front 30, North
Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee under the leadership of Noel Tumarlas
Alacre alias 'Meagan',” Mayor Dawog said in a press statement.
“I strongly condemn these barbaric
acts of the CTG resulting in multiple casualties,” he added.
Mayor Dawog together with the Tribal
Leaders of the Indigenous People (IP), and the people of Lanuza town appealed
to the remaining communist terrorists to stop the killings of innocent
civilians and non-combatants.
“We are calling for you to stop these
futile armed struggles and let us continue resolving our differences through
peaceful means,” Mayor Dawog said.
It can be recalled, that on Thursday
night, two heavy equipment were burned after the MR1 Construction Company
failed to support the terrorist group on their extortion activity, and killed
Aldren Daraman (27 years old), and injured Melvin Buniel, (28 years old) both
watchmen and residents of San Roque, Madrid, Surigao del Sur.
Meanwhile, Surigao del Sur Police Provincial Office Director Colonel James Goforth also confirmed that Lanuza Municipal Police Station (MPS), and the Police Mobile Force 2nd Company Patrol Base were also harassed during the incident. (PIA-Surigao del Sur)
