PSA to conduct LFS, FIES surveys, enjoins Caraganons for support

BUTUAN CITY (PIA) – The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in Caraga led by its regional director Dr. Rosalinda C. Apura enjoins all Caraganons to support and cooperate with the agency’s surveys, especially those 8,448 households who are part of the sample for the conduct of the July 2021 Labor Force Survey (LFS) and 2021 Family Income and Expenditure Survey (FIES).

Dr. Rosalinda C. Apura
Dir. Apura said the sample households is deemed sufficient to provide regional level estimates. "About 305 Statistical Researchers and Field Personnel will be involved in the conduct of the July 2021 LFS and 2021 FIES in the region," she said.

Apura said the 2021 FIES enumeration will be conducted twice. The first visit will be done in July 2021 with the first semester, January to June 2021 as the reference period and the second visit will be conducted in January 2022 with the second semester, July to December 2021 as the reference period, having the same set of questions will be asked for both visits, she added.

Apura further said the use of Computer Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) application using tablet as a method of data collection in FIES will be introduced starting this round.

The data collection will start on July 8 to 31, 2021.

Apura assured that all information collected by the hired Statistical Researchers from the sample households shall be kept strictly confidential and shall not be used for purposes of taxation, investigation or regulation as provided under Article 55 of RA 10625.

The FIES is a nationwide survey of households undertaken every three years.  It is the main source of data on family income and expenditure, which include among others, levels of consumption by item of expenditure as well as sources of income in cash and in kind. The results of FIES provide information on the levels of living and disparities in income of Filipino families, as well as their spending patterns; provide benchmark information to update the weights used in the estimation of Consumer Price Index (CPI); and provide inputs in the estimation of the country’s poverty threshold and incidence.
