SECRETARY ANDANAR: GOVERNMENT FOCUS IS ON COUNTRY’S RECOVERY
MANILA - The government would rather focus its attention on the country’s recovery from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic rather than entertain the noise from critics, Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar said on Thursday.
In an interview, Secretary Andanar enjoined the public to support the administration for the remainder of its term.
“We
are focused on the recovery roadmap. Sana matulungan niyo po ang ating Pangulo
sa nalalabing 8 months dahil tayo din po mga kababayan ang makikinabang dito
[We are focused on the recovery roadmap. I hope that you will continue to
support the President in the last 8 months of his term because we will be the
ones benefiting from this],” he said.
“Once we fully reopen our economy, kapag nagtransition na po tayo sa susunod na administrasyon, at least mas handa na silang sagupain itong COVID-19 at iba pang problema na ating kakaharapin pagkatapos po nito [Once we fully reopen the economy and transition to the next administration, at least they will be ready to face the challenges brought by COVID-19 and other problems that need to be addressed],” he added.
Secretary Andanar also said that in a span of five years, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has delivered more than what he has promised in his priority agenda as our head of state.
“Ang pangako ni Presidente noong 2016 ay peace and order, law and order, anti-corruption drive, at poverty alleviation. Naideliver po ni Presidente ang lahat ng kanyang ipinangako sa publiko and more [In 2016 the President promised peace and order, law and order, anti-corruption drive, and poverty alleviation. He delivered all these promises to the public and much more],” he said as he cited various accomplishments such as the campaign against illegal drugs, corruption, and criminality.
Secretary Andanar also said that the PCOO and its attached agencies are currently amplifying these accomplishments through the Duterte Legacy campaign, in order for the public to be more informed of the programs and services of the government.
The PCOO chief, as a technocrat himself, said that undertaking such an effort of building more platforms in the media landscape to inform the public is just one of the initiatives that the agency championed.
“Wala tayong ibang hangarin kundi ang magsabi ng totoo, magbahagi ng impormasyon ng maayos at maghanap pa ng ibang paraan para makapagpaabot tayo ng mga wastong balita kaugnay ng mga nangyayari sa gobyerno [We don't have any other motives but to tell the true narratives, to properly distribute information and likewise to be able to deliver accurate news on the situation in government],” he said.
